Before you did the 'Detect application...' bit, did Impulse show 'Available' or 'Update available'?
Before I did the 'Detect application' it had the exclamation mark and 'update available'. I started the update, it started downloading 1.9 gig, I cancelled out and followed the steps in the post above and all seems OK now. Roll on the next Elemental patch and we shall s
trcanberra, In Impulse, do you see 'Available' or 'Update available' for Elemental?
It said 'update available'. For info - I followed the suggestions in post #138 above and that worked fine, 9.8MB update and the game seems to be 1.11 now.

I paid $90 (for the Limited Edition box in Australia) and am happy enough. The manual is OK - though the game changes have made some of it obsolete. My PC is around 3 years old, AMD Athlon something or other with 4GB and a 256MB video card, the game runs just fine for me. I don't think they have a demo yet, which is a shame - lots of questions which can only really be answered with a 'hands on'. I often find feature descriptions which sound great then the game is a dog,

Finally managed to get 1.11 to update (after the 1.9 gig thing you can read about in the Tech forums). OK, so, I come to build a farm at the start of the game, the Hiergamenon tells me I need 3 labour, the city is too small to have that much population, yet it still lets me build it? I'm just trying to come to terms with the game changes, is this just something that hasn't been updated in the big H? The tool tip for farm building did not mention a labour requirement.

OK - it's now January, the first part of the campaign for Destiny's Embers is now overdue. Could I please have an update on eta? Thanks.

Look for an update to Impulse shortly.
Thanks - appreciate the update. I'm also hoping the updates won't kill the Destiny's Ember content as has often happened in the past?
To be clear, the work around for the 1.9 GB (full game size) download is to remove or rename the elemental.xml as described in post #120 (https://forums.elementalgame.com/401836/get;2864652) MattSan, The verify install functionality is for worse case scenarios where there could possibly be a problem with the install. When you use this function, if Impulse finds that the application does not appear to be installed

Now I just wish they would stop breaking it with every patch - this should be in the test scripts as it is official content.

Odd - I no longer have those characters available when I start a new game under 1.1. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

Just wondering when we will see Part 1 of the campaign for Destiny's Embers? I note it is still saying October on the status page. Not complaining, would just like an answer from someone in the know. Thanks.

I have found it useful to pick a medium map, only 1 opponent, and them on beginner - just to learn the ropes. Even then they may start right nearby and go all medieval on you, not much to do except start again. I suspect I have started more games than is good for me and finished very few of them [e digicons][/e] Just learning. I have particularly enjoyed exploring each tech tree in depth without worrying too much about winning

I'm one of the folks who kinda like the game as it is now, but am also keen to see the improvements. I should note that I am not too interested in 'winning' - I like exploring the systems and the maps - in fact I get kinda annoyed when I happen to win too early - did this a couple of times when I was just trying to clear the map a bit so I could explore some more. Depending on the cut off dates for getting the expansions free a purchase now might be worthwhile (early adopters

Haven't experienced this as far as I recall, though sometimes the outline box in the mini map at the upper right is fubar for me in terms of how much of the map it says it is covering.

Hmm - lots of interesting replies. First time I've started such an interesting debate [e digicons][/e] I'm kind of liking some of the suggestions regarding mana costs scaling with distance traveled and/or varying with the size of stack moved.

Plus there has been a subsequent hotfix to mend a problem with non-standard sized custom maps (including the one from Destiny's Embers lol). Hope this doesn't go on too long - the code needs to be more forgiving of mods made with the official tools or every patch will be a modders nightmare.
