"Initially, as a vassal, it is allied to you."
It would seem that as an Ally, initially at least, you would keep all trade and the like until such a time as the Vassal grew, independantly, large enough to become a Military threat. Given that, it may be an idea to keep an eye on your Vassals so they put all their effort into making your military/resource needs a priority thus reducing their abili
"The difference is that you can perform social and military production in a vast number of cities simultaneously (this becomes a bit harder with the new econ model, but it's still easily doable).
The point being, if a player(s) would quit over the loss of "anything" early game, then no system would suffice to appease them. I would imagine that any city
If the loss of some portion of your Research base is considered a reason to "rage quit" then the "Attackable Caravans" implementation should probably keep those types of folks totally away from the game at all. Imagine your enemy has found your richest caravan route between two manufacturing cities. He waits until it is 3/4 the way there, say 15 turns of traveltime, and then ambushes it, stealing/kil
I use Perfect Disk as well, not Free, as noted and after a defrag, you absolutely should not have 14% defragmentation, that is not right. A note on the Paging space. Since the Page file does not store data full time, it swaps in and out, and is a contiguous disk space, it never needs to be defragmented per say. If you turn on your PC and you start swapping

I am awe struck by these reveleations and not a bit surprised. I am a big big Gaming Post-Mortem reader and here we have a quasi, and as yet incomplete Post-Mortem happening right befores our eyes. There are always reasons why "certain game elements" (no pun intended) get shelved or simply left out of a games initial concept. I think it is very cool to hear the "why"
What is being described is a CD-Key tied to an ACCOUNT. Then inside that account, are created Aliases/Profiles. Relic is doing it, they allow 5 Profiles, and it works great. I can even destroy my Main ACCOUNT if I wish, but only 3 times, before I have to go see the "MAN" to explain myself. That way, if I wish, I can sell the game back to the store and they
The state of the Human condition as it is perceived today is such that we can in fact have those who believe and also those who just cannot fathom such a juxtiposition. What if what we are, along with the whole of our known Universe, nothing more than a single solitary piece in the play set of some Alien culture, and what we perceive to be infinite space, is nothing more than the limited dimensi

Another analogy, although a sci-fi based

OMG. HaunterV, you should post that in the "If we met Aliens" thread. It demonstrates quite well how far man, and his technology, has come thus far. LOL :)
The truly funny bit is, if LIFE is so difficult to create, then why is there such an immense variety and diversity of it on the planet we called Earth? Did Earth actually get all the building blocks and then there was no more left for anywhere else in the Universe? When Humans can manipulate Time/Space and or Wormholes, then we will begin to truly explore the
A Monument would seem to indicate a permanent state of affairs. What happens if you win a big battle, raise a Monument, only to be forced to give up that same territory later on. Any Victory/Battle Monument would then be rather Moot... Added to the Persistant side of the game would be very cool though. ;)
It is funny this has been mentioned. I am play Company of Heroe's and they have the Veterancy systems that adds small graphics to each unit as they advance in Rank, each has specific and accumlative associated bonuses. The most recent Patch changed these little graphics, and the uproar has been quite strong. It is very interesting how such minor repres
"This is not an issue of copyright infringement, it is an issue over whether or not people should be jailed and/or fined for intent over actually committing any crime and whether or not intent is considerable in defining law and punishment."
The driver of the get-away car did not ACTUALLY rob the bank either, but he certainly acted to further the cause of the crime committed, thus he too is quilty.</
Another possible balance solution is that as the empire expands, transport, instant or expedited in some form, could only be done from one city to the next city in line towards the ineviatble Front, with a Cool down timer to represent power requirements. Portals or whatever method, would require vast amounts of power that need to be built up, then are all expended in the transfer. Both ends are affected
I could envision a Free-4-All starting format and allow the players to create Alliances amongst similiar faction types. Given a 3v3 Large map, 3 Empire players vs 3 Kingdom players, each starts on a random map spot, on their half of the map, North-South, East-West whatever, then all have at it. The destruction of a player by any other player provides the victor with some level of Bonuses, be it Military or Pr
As to MP map naming issues, I see 2 possible solutions. First option. (a spin off of the who owns more cities/Pop. idea) Since all MP players will be on the same Base Map, with un-named features, the first player, despite Team, that reaches, or pushes back the FoW on said map feature, gets to put up a unique name if one does not exisit. Despite a Rivers length,&nb
"At the start of the game, the world is dead."
Given the above quote, I am curious how the following quote might be accomplished? Even an Evil ruler requires resources, such as proper Wood and edible Food stuffs for his Kingdoms people...
"Particuarly evil rulers could see the forests transformed into withered, haunted places where creatures spawn
"During the 1990s the programming size for games were seriously limited so developers had to make everything simple and compact... we don't face this problem today."
The problem wasn't size per say but more the delivery media available. Today, with DVD's and the Net, to allow basically unlimited sizes, only retreival time becomes a barrier and then only to the user/buyer, but the Dev's still want to
"you mention the 'frequency of ... items"
One "item" that immediately comes to mind would be on map "Mana Generators/Shards", as noted in the awesome map layout provided in the OP. ;)
"I agree, but I'm surprised to find myself interested in the idea of disguising units if there is still a possibility of identifying them somehow."
How about a Magic Spell that is only 50% successful and has a very small energy/mana/resouce cost. If you suspect a cover army, cast it, poof the illusion falls or not. A second cast will determine if you watsed 2 casts, or you were correct to cast again

Medieval disease was usually the result of large population growth without proper sanitation infrastructure being put in place to cope. As an example. The "Black Plague" of Europe was not "caused" by rats, the rats were simply the spreading agent of the outbreak. The "cause" was the abhorent piss poor sanitary practises in the major cities of Europe of the time. :) <spa
I would second taking a serious look at Dungeons & Dragons Online. It has the best "true player interactive based combat system I have found/seen anywhere. Here is the Trial link: http://trial.ddo.com/
