Yes. Looking forward to both games. :) I'm also interested in hearing impressions from Age of Wonders players as I still consider this the best turn based fantasy game and would dearly love FE and/or Warlock to knock it from its lofty pedestal.

No. Please don't make Champions a micro-mamagement nightmare. Keep the functional use of them simple. BUT I agree they are looking too awesome in combat. I would prefer to see them more as special units that give bonuses to the group they are stacked with or to allow events to be activated such as triggering quests and giving city bonuses. Basically I would prefer to see: Armies fight Armies: Champions fight Champions: Champions inspire Armies. To clarify,
With regards the video, will there be any zones of control on the Tactical Battle map to stop the horsemen breaking past so easily? It appears they could just waltz past without an issue. Having at least a movement/initiative penalty would be good to force players to play formations. Even better would be adjacency bonuses etc.
Yes. Very interesting to see the process. :)
Thanks for the clarification, Brad. :)
The game is looking really nice. Thanks for sharing the development process with us like this. My BIG concern is still the bloody balance. The champions and sov's look like insta-win all over again. Please please please make their effect important by all means - but not game-breaking which is what it looks like now. I would have thought a boost to adjacent troops would be good. And by boost I'm talking 10 to 20 percent - not 300 percent which is what would have happened in WoM
Take your time. Make it great. :)
Can't wait. :)
As Hawawaa said, the expansions add an enormous amount to the enjoyment of the game. The new expansion, DW Legends, requires both the original DW and the first expansion, DW Return of the Shakturi - according to the website anyway. Hopefully there will be some sort of bundle deal for those that don't have it yet but the cost is still likely to be much higher than the run of the mill indie games. All I can say is that Distant Worlds with all the expansions is worth every penny. It seriousl
Distant Worlds is THE best 4X game I've played. The new version to be release this month looks even better. It plays like a space opera where there is always an opportunity or a threat that involved strategic choice - and this can spin on its head at any time. Every game is different and the galaxy is a living thing. Some complaints are that the game is unbalanced and can be difficult to learn. I like the unbalanced nature of what happens within the game and while there are a number of th
I also prefer randomised games - even if the balance etc is a little off.
Yeah. Like the sound of everything except: a. Multiplayer. Please don't nerf the game to accommodate quick multiplayer turns. War of Magic felt like this was a driving factor that lead to the crappy tactical battles and simplistic gameplay. Make it great as a single player game first. Please. b. Differentiation in factions: This should be a requirement - not just an item on the wish list. I'd be very happy to have differentiation within humanoids rather than just human
Very good review. I'm an avid Fire and Ice fan and while the game is interesting it is not something I can keep coming back to.
I want WAR tactics. Flanking, terrain, range, etc.
Me too.
I'd advise you install Heavenfall's After the War mod as it re-balances much of the game. Its effects are generally subtle and it does nerf some of the stats. The big one affecting your gameplay is that the AI can keep on spamming out cities without any restrictions. Heavenfall's mod makes building a new city cost 1 food which means that most civ's stop building at around 5 or 6 cities - which feels like a comfortable amoun
I would consider the game 'good' but not 'great' now. Before this release it was 'poor' but with 1.4 I'm finding the game much better than it was. :) For me it is now better than Civ 5 but probably a shade below patched Civ 4. Heavenfall's mod improves the game but really the game is now good even without this. I'm finding I am losing track of time - which is always a good sign. Based on the games you mentioned I would say it is now worth pl
Thanks Heavenfall, for all the effort you have put in to make this game as good as it can be. :D Much appreciated.
Cute sentiment and all but this doesn't work for me - especially when you can find multiple 'Annies'. It takes you out of being immersed in the game to a reminder that an animator working on the game has a dog called Annie.
I can't pick a definite pattern but some battle stall during your turn. Typically you will get a shot/hit in with a unit but after that no attack or movement will work. You can still select other units but not perform any actions. The only way forward is to auto-resolve the rest of the battle. This happens about 10% of the time for me.
There are quite a few items that are not included in the Hiergamenon. I think it is also really important to explain the basic game concepts such as the importance of prestige and also the impact of building too many cities. Some of the items that should have Hiergamenon entries are Trade, Treaties etc. I think that Treaties has a link from within the Hiergamenon but not from the research screen.
Actually, I'm playing a new game now where the balance of wargs is about right. Maybe it was just a series of randomly weighted games I had started.
It seems that Wild Wargs are absolutely everywhere. I've started quite a few games now and haven't seen a horse resource but many many warg resources. In one game I had 4 warg resources within visual distance of my starting location.
Playing as any of the Kingdoms, the peasants start with 5hp from 5 Constitution. New units start with 3hp from 3 Constitution. Empire units start with 5hp for both new and peasant units. Bug means it is better to upgrade Peasants than to create new units. (This is an old bug BTW.)
Thanks for the updates. Are you planning on releasing another 1.39x PRC beta or are you just going to release 1.4?
I believe you are right. Ambient sound in WoM is all but non-existent and would have gone a long way to adding to the immersion. This has been mentioned since early beta but never really taken up. Compare the ambient sound in Age of Wonders to WoM. Chalk and cheese.
