Campaigns saves are loaded from the campaign screen. The normal load screen only shows sandbox saves, so that's what you'll be getting if you load from there.
An application can't generally cause a BSOD in modern versions of windows, only expose existing driver/hardware issues. If you're seeing artifacts, that probably means overheating or impending GPU failure.
Tonight's update should fix the on-turn crash that most people are reporting from 1.01. Thanks for your reports.

The left panel is only for quest and consumable items. Click the shield and sword button by his HP bar to open his inventory.
