Quoting 1Tiberius1, reply 2Maybe a slight tangent, but mentioning the show made me remember Rome. I kind of miss that show. Not a tangent really---that show was badass---imo ---a mirror of the Martin's world--hopefully HBO puts that passion into Thrones. This is a major commitment i think---they have to stick with it like the Sopranos --or like Battle Star Galactica--great series/characters/plot. That would be my only concern

Total War: Shogun 2 with all the time I can muster [e digicons]:)[/e] I've played the series since the first Shogun and I think I'm having more of a blast than ever before. I can also recommend Sword of the Stars. Perhaps my all-time favorite game. It took a long time for a game to surpass Master of Orion 1 in my book.

I really liked the first two books but already on the third book I felt that the series started to suffer from a Wheel of Time effect: Too many characters being tracked too closely. It's just taking a bit too long for my taste for something to actually happen.

This reminds me of an AI query of mine during the beta stages. I was worried about exactly this kind of behavior, but fanboys shot the question down. I'm glad you keep the squeaking going. We need the oil for our squeaky wheels! I haven't been paying much attention since the game hasn't had any updates lately besides the memory ones.
No, they did not. The Tokogowa clan was eventually successful in taking over the shogunate in 1600 and were the ruling power in Japan from 1600 to 1867 when the 14th Tokogowa Shogun relinquished power to the emperor.
Yes, Tokugawa Ieyasu was the one to found the new Shogunate. By the time he did that, Sengoku Jidai was already over. Unification of Japan was started by Oda Nobunaga and concluded by his successor Toyo

Just because Oda came out victorious doesn't mean they started out as most powerful. Imagawa marched against them with an army of 20 000 - 40 000. Oda beat them with 5000 men in the battle of Okehazama. I like the fact that the clans selectable by the player often start out outnumbered and force you to actually think a bit. However, I do agree that it would be nice to see an AI controlled Oda alive for a bit longer. And I've also witnessed archers missing their target

Agree with most of what Vandenburg is saying. However, I don't see why mail should get a special bonus against piercing. Sure, if the angle is really bad, then a piercing weapon would probably glance off. But if it hits within a reasonable angle, then those linked chains will provide virtually no deflection and the joints are not powerful enough to stop a blow which has it's force concentrated in a very small area. The whole point of a pointy weapon - if you'll excuse the pun - is

Regarding the new combat speed system: the unit whose turn comes up, I assume it only gets a single attack? I haven't really liked the WoM system where units get to hit several times in their own turn. It just seems a bit pointless, having to click several times in a row and seeing the slow battle animations over and over again.
I also thought that the most fun parts of MoM were early in the game when you were still exploring the world and dealing with taking over nodes and dungeons, and the various rampaging monsters. That's because there was still a sense of fantasy and wonder at that point and you never knew what you might run into, or what treasures you might find. It didn't matter as much if the AI was god awful when you weren't dealing with enem
Actually I think your missing my point there. I agree the sequel is likely to be better, in fact I said as much in my post. It has nothing to do with whether or not the sequel is "better". No matter how much better a sequel is, there will always be people who hate it and like the original better. That's just human nature. Some people just don't like change.
I hear you. For many games, the worst audience is the old fans.
Quoting Trojasmic, reply 16 Quoting FadedC, reply 14 As with any sequel, there will be people who hate it and talk about how much better the old one is. i doubt that I should clarify that I'm not saying the game will be worse then the original. I mean there's really no way to know at this point (and I'm keeping my hopes up that it will be great). I'm just saying that

LightofAbraxas has a valid point, I think. For me, the objective of thinking of a unit count limit was not to make battles smaller, but to limit a stack of doom approach. Make it possible for a faction to have several active armies, each fully capable. This instead of having the option of either a single full strength stack vs two half strength stacks. That said, it's going to be interesting to see how the 1.3 changes with default squad size of 4 will affect the game.

I hate to say it, but Scritty does sum up my feelings of the game rather well.. ..but I still wish the best to the crew. Derek's posts give hope for FE and Frogboy's promise of getting FE and whatever else for free is a huge promise from a company. So, in my opinion, the game may have failed, but Stardock did not. As amazing as that sounds [e digicons]:)[/e]

Well summed up, Kenata. I've had the privilege of playing Shogun 2 for 8 or so hours. What a delightfully challenging game! I haven't had this tough time with Total Wars since the first Medieval. I've heard the challenge may lessen somewhat towards the end of the game, but I don't really mind. And I even honestly lost a battle to the AI, something that hasn't happened in years. They did outnumber me by a nice margin, but they still outmaneuvered me. That is so cool. Sh

Do you know what we refer to as the camera? Pressing down the middle mouse button and then tilting the view around? When a mouse is moved up with the middle mouse button pressed, it goes into the opposite direction than some people intuitively assume. This has nothing to do with edge scrolling econundrum1 referred to. It's just about changing the viewing angle.
Can someone explain to me what is not inverted about the camera movement in Elemental? As far as I can tell its already inverted.
Ok, if you want to split hairs: Whatever you call the current camera, I would prefer to have an option to invert it. Mainly Y-axis. If it's already inverted, then that would naturally be the inverse of the inverse, which you would probably call normal. Inversing the camera is just a +/-

Great news RavenX! Thanks for the post. I can't play myself yet. I pre-ordered, but the game hasn't arrived yet through mail :-( Luckily Dragon Age 2 is keeping me busy, although I don't expect it to have as much long lasting appeal as Shogun 2.
The only small complaint I've found in the battle AI is from time to time the AI knows when I tell my cavalry to attack a bow unit and the bow unit starts running before my cavalry even gets there. It's like it dete

I'm going to bump this one. After quite a bit of time with E:WoM I've given up on ever trying to move the camera around since it never moves like I expect it to. I think the way it moves is different from the default in most other similar games. I've played King's Bounty and Fantasy Wars recently and haven't had the problem in those games. Isn't axis inversion a rather simple task in programming terms?

kenata, even though the AI can use the special abilities, it's a different thing to use them effectively. A simple example: AI has two units, one has low defense and hp, but a huge attack. A so called glass cannon. The other one is more balanced. I have two units, otherwise similar, but one has First Strike ability. AI should be hitting the normal unit with their glass cannon as it would be destroyed without accomplishing anything if it attacks the First Strike
