This is not a flame post, please don't take it as such. Just honest feelings. Brad, I've been a long time Stardock customer dating back to GalCiv 1 release on PC. At one time any new Stardock game was a must purchase for me. GC1 and 2 (probably 1000+ hours in each), Sins was great and introduced me to more RTS elements which I didn't like before. Heck, I even enjoyed Demigod. But I'm a bit more leery now. EWoM wasn't fu

Always wait for the holiday sales on Steam....always. Never pay full price. [e digicons]B)[/e] And also wait for the last day as noted. For example I need one of the Crusader Kings II DLC's which are all 50% off right now. However I know they will go to 75% off at some point like they did in the summer sales. So I'll hold back and wait for it. Next big Steam sale will be the Winter sale around Christmas which will probab
Reasons: beta patch access.
Just wanted to point out that Beta patches can be made available on Steam. Skyrim does this, you can opt in for beta patches. So developers can do that on Steam as well.
They are actually selling EA games with no DRM at all
Nothing that is new. Heck, hardly anything from the last 10 years. I love those old games but please...it's not like they are selling Mass Effect 3 or Dragon Age games DRM free. Most of these old games didn't even have DRM in the first place other then a disc check. *Floppy* disc check no less. LOL

I was given Empire: Total War as a Christmas gift, and you can neither install nor play it without a permanent online connection.
Quoting bonscott, reply 344I think you are getting Steam...the download service and Steamworks confused. They are two separate things, although tied together obviously. Steamworks means that the game REQUIRES steam to be running in order to install/run the game. To claim they are separate things is absurd. You might be able to buy it at walmart but you are merely having walmart act as a distributer for
Speaking of, why does it have to be steam only? Does steam require an ILLEGAL anti competition clause to publish games? Because otherwise I see no reason why stardock can't offer all their games on steam and in addition to that, via direct distribution in DRM free exe installers.
I'm fine with Steam and Impulse as digital downloading sites, that's fine. I personally like a CD/DVD copy of my games, cause you just by god never know when you feel like loading and playing that out dated, dinosaur of a game, but it's always there.
True. However going forward even this is going to be harder and harder to do. Take Skyrim for example. Having the DVD all day long doesn't help yo
Been loving the Steam summer sales as usual. Got The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition for $12 or so. Legend of Grimrock for $4. Tropico 4 with all DLC for something like $9. Even picked up Oblivion and Morrowind just for the heck of it, *both* of them for $11 total. Love it!
@Pheace I did find the search button after you mentioned it - doesn't exactly stand out does it? Still can't find a solution to the issue. Will try phoning 2K support instead as they actually have a contact number so I might be able to sort out the issue in 30 minutes as opposed to dealing with Valve. To be honest I can't be bothered to debate this further with you and your sort - I think the
Endless Space is to be released on July 4th!
Hmmmm, how can you not have Admin access? That seems very odd.
I hated Steam for many years, preferring Impulse. Last year with the sale of Impulse to Gamestop (who I refuse to do business with, period) I gave Steam another shot with an open mind. All my Steam hatred was unfounded and just wrong. At the end of the day it just works and I now have well over 50 games on it including rebuying (at 75% off sales) of most of the games I had on Impulse. Steam doesn't get in my way at all and I can play all my games just fine. &nb
You really need to raise that 3% female rate for Impulse users. I'd recommend being accessible to some of the girl gaming sites and reach out to them. Might get some good ideas. Indie games might help here.
I think just getting a deal with Her Interactive (Nancy Drew games), get more of the CSI type games and get the "Myst" type games (there are still a ton) would help increase the female

E: War of Magic: Incomplete. Haven't played in a few months but I did have fun when it was first released. But things are changing so much I decided to set it aside and wait for Fallen Enchantress to get into playing again. Probably won't play WoM again to be honest. Civilization V: Refused to buy because of Steamworks required. Starcraft 2: Did not buy, not my cup of tea. Fa
Totally agree with the original post. Just basic turn mechanics need to be improved in this way. So frustrating to have to tab thru units I wanted fortified or sentried...I put them that way so I *don't* have to deal with them anymore. I sentry a guy on a mountain pass and only want to deal with him if an opponent passes near. Hopefully things like this will make it into the upcoming UI updates.
We can't. They're not ours to sell. In the end though, there will be an expansion pack's level of content all free for the price of a $10 book. Random House has done something really interesting here, it'll be interesting to see how it works out for them.
Cool. I was going to pick up the book eventually anyway but if it comes with a ton of free content as well I'll go get it. So I assume one can get t
I'm having a hard time telling what faction is what in games. Their "culture boundary" is all the same...yellow. And when you hover over a unit or city all I see is the faction coat of arms and not the name (unless I'm missing something) so I don't know quickly which faction I'm talking too. In my most recent game I declared war on what I thought was my main enemy but ended up being a minor civ. In most civ type games, including GalCiv it was really easy to tell on
Just an FYI that I didn't get a shipping email (I pre-orderd over a year ago) so I contacted support just to find out if I should be getting an email or not and got an email back today saying that my box had indeed shipped. And come to find out my box arrived today and had actually shipped last Tuesday in the first batches. So it took almost a week to get it so they should start arriving to everyone pretty soon I'd think.
No way.
Yes, take some time off and enjoy the awesome cool weather we are finally getting in Michigan. Down to below 50 the next couple nights so enjoy before it gets hot again next week.

Nice article and from the comments may bring Stardock new business from people who have never heard of them before. Always good to get mainstream coverage.
If there are any bugs you can expect them to be fixed quickly. Stardock is not above releasing a few small patches in the first couple weeks of a release. One only need to look at their history to see this so no worries. If you aren't quite sure you'll actually like the game a demo will come out shortly after release, probably a month or so and you can try that first.
