I would rather be able to select an heir than to follow any rites of succesion involving blood relation. Perhaps after a few betrayals by "former allies", I might look at an enemy and consider them honourable in comparison. My thoughts might be "Atleast he had the decency to face me on the battle field." and "Despite our grudges, he seems to treat his people right.". WooHoo! Found a peanut, er, bug. Charged a 10th lvl troll on the 2nd turn and got killed, tried to start a new game, got a totally white map.

I have had a similar problem, mine has also occured with some other games. I have a two monitor setup and sometimes when I launch a game it doesn't get focus properly, so I make a habit of clicking in the window after the splash screen comes up and it works fine now. Don't know if it will help you, but after two attempts to launch only to have it exit, i tired just clicking on the screen and it continued.

Yeah I thought it was real slick the way they waited until [their] quitting time to send out a message so I didn't have any time to respond in time to actually get the thing downloaded today. My CC company is responding to my query with "since you have such a good credit rating we put a hold on your card since you didn't make a payment this month" To which I respond "thanks for letting me know which credit card to cancel", that seemed to honestly confuse the poor person. frewk
Razing cities (or at least towns and villages) was common practice in ancient and to a lesser extent in medieval times. Sure, it'll leave a bad impression on the allies of whoever's towns you're razing, but they'd have a poor impression of you anyways. And maybe some other goody-two-shoes would get a negative impression of you from it... But razing a town doesn't necessarily mean slaughtering its inhabitants. It just means dispersing the
But, if you have 32 races, and then say 10 minor races, 20-25 cities is obviously too small. Assuming that you spread out some before going to war, and establish, say, four cities, then at four a piece you have 128 cities, just for the main races. Plus say another five or six for the minor races. Let's just say 135 for ease of computations. So, if you're a huge sprawling empire by turn 500, and have crushed a few players, you probab

So I am wondering, will the option to download the beta just show up some day? Will we get a notification ahead of time, at what point (date) should we investigate NOT being able to download the beta? I pre-ordered in November last year, just nervous.

I guess as long as the area you control doesn't increase the amount of essence you gain, that makes sence. edit: I found the piece of info I was looking for: Over time, the life force (or death force) that a channeler initially imbued in the land will naturally spread so each founded town won’t usually require the sacrifice of essence to create. However, if the player wants to quickly spam out a bunch of cities (which is a typical strategy in 4X games) it

Ok my question, that I can't find addressed anywhere else is, what is meant by: "... there won't be the traditional "land grab" found in most strategy games" is there a description someplace I haven't found yet of what we get instead of the land grab? (I always hated the "land grab" phase of 4x games.)

meh, I hope I get in the alpha then, 'cause Champions Online will (supposed) come out on Sept 1. Everything I see about this game makes me more impatient, I may actually break off playing CO to play with the public beta if I don't see an invite to the alpha. But who knows how time will pan out.
Seems like this thread has found a really big basic question for the game. How does using a channeler's fundamental essence to expand usable map territory relate to siezing rival territory through force? Is the fundamental limit what your channeler can personallly sustain, or what your channeler's subservient units can defend?
Good question, is it unit based or does the basic essence of the ruler imbue the land over time. Because most companies use cancer as their business model. Greed mean profit, profit means growth, growth mean more profit, etc. Very few ever realized that cancer inevitably results in the death of the host, and the cancer. (see recent "economic downturn" as cancer patient going on life support)

Loving the sound of this game with each new journal entry. :) Seriously, I haven't heard of a game this promising in a long time. I'd be interesting to know how villages/towns/cities develop. Will we be seeing them grow by population only or do the specialty type building affect growth? (i.e. blacksmith, alchemist etc.) Will we see individual buildings, will I know a blacksmith from a stable? Will cities cover area on the map or just be points on it? Most strat

I like camp #3, but I'd like to add something about roads. It'd be interesting if roads kind of built themselves. Or at least started automatically. If you have two locations, people will move betwee the two locations over certain paths more often than others. (Ever notice places on collage campuses where the grass is worn into a path when the sidewalks don't take people where they want to go?) So if paths grow (organically) based on traffic, then resources (money) can later be expend
