Its funny how Steam has become the deciding factor for whether or not some people play this game. I guess the actual game doesn't matter, its the silly little program running in the background that's actually important.
Well I know we see a lot of people like that on internet message boards, but I don't think they are a representative sample of the gaming population.
Steam is the best DD service. There is no way around that. I own 6 games on impulse, I own 62 on steam. The great magority of new PC games are using steamworks for DRM and MP functionalty. Civ 5, Fallout New vegas are steam games. You can`t compete with that. I don`t like it, I`m a Valve fanboy. Microsoft recently announced the Games for Windows live marketplace, A direct comp
I'm also waiting a little while before playing Civ 5 again. If I read about major AI improvements in this patch I may give it a shot, otherwise I am going to wait for the next one. I think it has the potential to be a great game, and the mechanics are for the most part quite solid. It just needs a lot of AI improvement and a little bit of polish in other areas.
I notice they didn't mention anything about improving the way the way the AI moves or attacks with it's units, just it's build priority for them.
On the now locked thread about steam here, you were one of the strongest promoters of this monopoly scam. And here you are using bs to defend steam's main salesboi here and attacking those he attacked. Gee, that's some real curious coincidence, aint it. I see by your member # that you've been around here a long time, yet only +2 karma. Apparently you have a history....

Calling someone a salesboi is paranoid? That's funny.
Well assuming that you were accusing him of not being a genuine elemental forum goer, but instead secretly working for another organization, then yes that is pretty much the textbook definition. So is angrily lashing out at people for percieved insults.
I dunno about that..I mean I survived the THAC0 years..who can boast such claim?...or want to go back to it...Oh God the debates! But yeah- the typical MMO classes seems to be the norm- I suppose it`s part lazyness from the devs, part easy-does-it: I mean just put whatever type of character, and put Tank/healer/ranged DPS/melee DPs and people will get it: no need for a paragraph or two about

Was Space Empires the game where you had really interesting unique racial traits like races that were made of energy and lived on space stations or races that left giant mine fields on the map? I remember it was a really interesting game, although I also remember that (at least in the version I played) 90% of winning it was about extremely detailed and lengthy micromanagement of your colony and transport ships to build your economy to a critical level, which wasn't really my cup of
Quoting FadedC, reply 78 Well it's a fine line, because no matter how great a change is there will always be a vocal group of fans who thinks the change really sucks (you see the blizzard boards after even the most popular and needed World of Warcraft change). But of course not every change is great and sometimes those people are right and it really does suck. The trick is figuring out the differenc
Quoting Heavenfall, reply 74 So high sense of entitlement from so many, eh? It's a new game, it's a different game, if it's better or not - well, let's leave that for when we play it, yeah?... So fans of the series who bought enough copies of the previous two games to warrant a third one, and who are expressing their dislike at the direction that said third game is headed do so due to a sense of
Shadow of the Colossus is 5 years old, so that's obviously a bit older, but honestly how often does a truely unique game like that come out for any game system? I'm not a good person to talk to about SoC. I think it was an incredibly overrated cinematic experience. As a game, it was good for _A_ play through....and the entire game hinged on what a Colossus did. So don't look for me to be agreeing with you there. Hearing people
So it sounds like you guys are big fans of the titanquest expansion? I had mentioned that I felt the game was lacking, but I never tried the expansion. As for blizzard riding on the laurels of their successes, well they've only had major criticial successes so far. Once they produce a game that's not a giant hit then we can start to think about calling them overrated.
Quoting FutileEmotion, reply 59 I wonder what they're doing about cheating in Diablo 3. In Diablo 2, it has always been a major issue, between duplicated items and bots running, or that you can (or at least could earlier this year) buy stolen/generated CD keys for $5-10. Well they are forcing battle.net on everyone whic his supposed to be improved, but my solution for something li
Yeah, your references are pretty dated....Shadow of Collossus? GTA4? Welcome to many, many years ago. Shadow of the Colossus is 5 years old, so that's obviously a bit older, but honestly how often does a truely unique game like that come out for any game system?
One thing that bugs me about Blizzard, though, is that despite their ridiculous levels of success, they still have a hard time supporting and releasing titles in the Diablo franchise in any semblance of time. Not only is every patch late, some have been over a year late. From what I can tell, they only had one or two people working on these announced patches.
Quoting Frogboy, reply 38 I need this game. Only this game will make me happy. I fear that this attitude will cause D3 to receive rave reviews and love just because it is the successor of a great game. If SC2 was exactly the same, but from a different company in a different world, it wouldn't be nearly as well liked. SC2 was such a huge disappointment for me that I'm not likely to p
Not sure about the advertising thing. Advertisers choose the tactics they do because they believe that they are the most effective way to convince people that the game (or other product) is worth owning. That is their job, and while I doubt they are perfect, I'm still inclined to trust their judgement about what is effective more then that of the average person.

This is something that's dividing the Diablo III community down the line: buying it supports Activision Blizzard's stance that customers will pay any price and should be taken advantage of at every opportunity. It's not like the console market would have disapeared if Microsoft hadn't released the Xbox. It would just have meant greater market shares for the other console designers.
It's that they are supposed to be heavily scripted events so when it's between 90 and 70 % health you have to be hopping on one foot to do any damage. At each 10 % after that an add spawns which can only be defeated if you kick the old tree with the bee's nest in it so the bees descend on the add and distract it. If you fail to kill the adds quickly enough, they split in two and if you don't keep their health levels betwee
Seems a bit of a stretch to say that boss fights requiring unique and adaptive strategies makes the game like World of Warcraft. That should really be true of any game that has boss monsters.
, Diablo II is still the best Hack 'n Slash money can buy. have to disagree with you there. Titan Quest blows it out of the water with the much larger selection of classes and dual classing capabilities. Was hoping Diablo III would follow suit but only getting 5 classes again. Hmm...well I agree that if you were to count total number of features between Civ 4 BtS and Civ 5, then Civ 5 would be found wanting. But I think there's sort of a quantity versus quality thing going here. Religion and unhealth didn't add much to game play for example but the new combat system in civ5 adds a great deal. Edit: Note too that when talking about the vast gulf of features between Civ 3 and Civ 4, that there are many people who think that Civ 3 was the superior game in term
