There's a difference between "ascribing malice or greed" and just simply asking for you to take all the blame off the external beta testers, very specifically. The part of the podcast where you said that if you looked you could find a user with the white screen issue. I just sighed really hard. What is the point of filling out a bug report if the developer isn't going to track it. You needed to be tracking every single bug report that came in through the external beta's. I can just imag
How would tactical battle work? For example, if myself and two others are in a game. The other two players attack either other while they take their turns and I'm still taking mine. Would my turn halt while they play out the tactical battle? Would they play out their battle and I wouldn't even know except to see the result on the map (if I have sight of the area)? Just something that sprung up while imaginin
Plate was lighter than Chain mail and articulated so it was less cumbersome and allowed for a far greater range of motion than pretty much any other type of armor. Knights in Tourneys in Full Plate could do handstands on their horses and jump off at a full gallop. Just wanted to put this our there as most times plate and encumberance are implemented ahistorically. Leather, Chain, and Padded armor should have an encumberance reflective of how they restricted range of motion, especially c
I've read all kinds of (sorry) moronic conspiracy theories on people saying "Stardock HAD to know...". To which I say, nonsense. Not a single person internally felt (or at least suggested) we extend the release date. And until the end of July, we had that option. We simply thought the game was ready. It really aggravates me when people say I or Stardock "knew" the game wasn't ready and just released it. We worked on this for
Regarding the early betas, the entire pay-to-test paradigm obviously won't work if the company is not willing to actually listen and act upon the feedback generated by the program. Fanboys will throw their money at the company and laud anything given to them. Moreover, fans are going to be the dominant majority in any beta program, so a positive feedback loop is inevitable. The moral hazard is that the fanboys will be heard above the sensible complaints and suggestions of serious contr
Brad, I think the Beta community deserves a specific apology. If this was the business world you basically got your first feature complete build , i.e. Beta 1, then walked into the room with all the users who were ready for U.A.T(User Aceptance testing) and told them all to go home because they had a seat during the develpment proecss. Then you made a couple more changes, released, and now its not just you but all those users who, in this case, paid you to test your product
No company has the right to steal 10, 20, 30, or whatever amount of hours it takes you to figure out the game you purchased is an unfinished product thats many hours of your life you'll never get back. If you charged them by the hour for the time it took you to figure out the product you bought in good faith from them was unfinsihed they would probably owe you more than you already gave them for an unfinished game. Their wasting others people's time and charging them to do it. You d
Got my thread nuked last night in under a minute. Your mods are targeting the "con" threads and leaving non-gameplay specific "pro" threads going. The state paradox releases their games in makes elemental look like a polished diamond, but at least they don't moderate their forums past bad language and personal attacks. And I just flatly disagree, a general section is exactly for this type of ranting, if you want to create a "rants and raves" sub forum though I would be completly
I made light of it in another thread but I think alot of us here really Like Brad and his stances on DRM, Gamers BillOfRights, Digital Distribution Philosophy, etc. And that makes this release a really tough pill to swallow. I for one was preaching the pre-paid beta philosophy and heralding Brad and SD's name as a model for how to get polished software out the door. It just feels like they just took their principals and threw them out and I honestly don't know why
I have been following this game on the official forums and I have witnessed the loyal/excited fanbase nearly scream for the game to be released early for months now. You must have been following a different part of the official forums than I did, because during the Beta process I felt the vast majority were telling Brad that the game was being wrapped up too quickly.
I would say the vast ma
Quoting Jam3, reply 6 It's nice to see "deal with it" posts get to hang around while critical posts get canned. I mean honestly my post about "why was it released early" didn't address a specific game problem but neither does this one. Maybe because there are like 500 of those on here already? Do you think you had something that someone else hadn't said already? [
Can anyone take a joke here? And seriously no one else has a little bro-mance for Brad? After Will Wright released Spore and ended our fairly intense relationship I was all about the Wardell!
Do you see these kinds of posts flooding Blizzard or Bioware forums? No because they release finished products, maybe people don't like something about the game but they're not arguing about the release state at least no where near the quantity you see here and good god just take a step over into the paradox forums for Hearts of iron 3 and even a year later the discussion is still going on. Here it is, very simply for everyone, it is absolutly possible to release finish

If posts like this https://forums.elementalgame.com/394409 get to hang around cause they are telling people to basically "deal with it" and critical posts get deleted then the "non gameplay specific" argument doesn't exactly hold alot of water.

You know forget it you can delete this one too. I pre-ordered elemental long-ago and have lauded the SD and Impulse philosophy pretty much every forum I am a member. I honestly put some effort intot he post because I sincerly want to know why the game was released early, why the beta community never really got a shot at a "release canidate". I got burned with Demigod and burned again with Elemental. burned because I am wasting my time, my fault I know. But if your at the point of "
I don;t know if theres an appropriate forum to ask this in but could a mod explain why my "Why was the game released early" post was deleted? I didn't attack anyone personally or use bad language. Are you deleting posts for content?
They don't release the game at will. It needs to be coordinated with retail outlets. It was explained they could commit to a choice between the release date they went with, or next year. They thought they could make it, and weren't able to pull it out. That's why. No conspiracy to screw you, no intentionally cutting corners. A tactical error between two less than ideal choices.
I just really want to know why it was released so early? I mean about the time it was released was about the time I was ready to start actual beta testing. I assumed it would be primarily for gameplay balancing and polishing, like 3-6 months. I mean leave the gameplay the way it is, i won't get into that argument, but I just am befuddled as to why it was released so early. I can actually understand if the civ5 argument thats going around is the reason but if you truly thought this was
This isn't Hearts of Iron 3 or most other paradox games where the answer is usually around a year after release. I think there are a few issues, namely the white screen problem and other ctd's, which will probably be resolved in less than a month. Other issues like a more robust random map generator, probably 2-4 months. I am playing it now and having fun but for you it sounds like you probably would be better off waiting a month or two.
Quoting PeeKay777, reply 91 Do you realise how difficult or what is involved to program a random map generator that produce maps that are realistic and playable? Just try it with only 2 terrain types - water and land. Say you want a map with one third water and two thirds land. You can not just look at each square and random generator because you will end up with chess board type maps. So you need to be ran

Storytelling has been that way probably since the dawn of civilization its the same stories told in different ways. If you look for biblical plotlines you can find them in almost anything,
A. It feels more like Gal Civ economics with a fantasy theme than any thing. For that matter, pick any 4X game such as the MOO’s, and this is what it feels like. Maybe this is what the devs want. I don't know. I’m just getting a little tired of just plopping buildings down.
And that was the worst part of galciv, planet(city) building and economics. Brad himself knows it was awful in galciv. And even with that I a
