Interesting posts so far. I was planning to buy AOW 3 asap, as I am ready for something new after 800+ hours of FE/LH. Now I will have to reconsider...

All AI Sovs have two AI traits that influence their behavior. Ceresa has Paranoid or Insane or something like that. So yeah, she's not your most friendly neighbor usually. But the AI doesn't really know how to play Resoln. It should be fairly easy to conquer them. @Darkstare: You are right, Challenging and Expert aren't very impressive :D Keep experimenting and one day you'll be able to beat the game on Insane!
Ahh, you've very welcome. I am surprised you have not gotten more response. It's not like you asked a question that has a definitive answer, like "how do I increase the power of my fireball spells" You asked for a discussion of people's opinions on a question with no inherently "Correct" answer. At the Bethesda forum where I usually hang out, you'd get get a bunch of answers to a question like this
Thanks for Necroing my thread :P
So I know this is old, but that's how you do it.
What's the level you're playing on & how many turns does it take you to win?
Yeah, it would be nice if in the next iteration of LH, all abilities would be categorized and/or have a clear description. Before anyone comments: in the game , I mean, not somewhere in the code...
1: Conquered cities have huge Unrest penalties, so I usually raze them. That being said, attacking in the early game is probably the easiest way to win a game. There's no rule of thumb. My thumb tells me 9 - 12 cities are ideal. 2: One really strong and fast army works best for me. Try not to wage war on multiple opponents at once. If the AI does not put up a fight, you should probably increase the difficulty. 3: Don't let your champs get injured. Like Borg said,
However, please be careful to remember the appeal of LH's combat system is that it is fast and fun. And it needs to be that way to keep the game moving along. So, yes, combat changes are welcome--as long as they don't bog the game down.
Spot on! To add to this: fighting the AI is less fun than fighting monsters. Ai armies are very generic, with no special abilities and no spoils after you beat th
1: Quarterly 2: Quests, Factions, Loot, Spells. In that order, but all four are more important to me than battle maps or siege units. Thanks for keeping us updated, Frogboy!
Most of your concepts aren't major concerns for me, to be honest. I don't like some parts of your concepts, for instance 7) Heroes and Summons should show up at my Sovereign. She's what it's all about in my games. Besides, Summons don't show up 'at the Sovereign', they show up wherever they are Summoned, depending on who summoned them. Makes perfect sense to me. Concept 10) is flawed. Factions cannot have their own roads, as there's sim
I love the RPG aspects: building up my Sovereign, casting spells, questing and finding cool items. I like to beat the odds in the turn based battles. I also like city-building, but in my experience, the choices I make during that part of the game don't influence the outcome much. I'd love to like creating custom factions and sovereigns, but in reality they make the game way too easy. And no, I refuse to make sub-par choices. Above all, I really love the
Welcome Durthgot! #1: Only a few buildings provide Fame 'income' per turn. Clerics only provide a one-time bonus of +2. In the early game, you cannot build any of the +Fame/turn buildings yet. #2: No, there's no limit. You can even acquire some heroes during quests or random events. #3: Yes, but I forgot wat it was. I usually don't give my troops any rest :).
Those XP bonuses seem a bit much. I'd say: 1 (base)/1/2/3 XP/season and no Initiative bonus. Adventurer's Guild 2xp/season.
Heroic should double xp from quests. The Adventurer profession doubles Fame from quests. Heroic is a very weak trait. It was much better in FE, where it increased Prestige (which increased city growth).
Thank you, Primal. The list of quest is fine but the rewards are missing. So I don't know wheater it's worth.
Knowing the rewards would ruin half the fun! Just to be clear: the quests from the quest maps are the same as the (random) quests you can find while roaming the world.
I've had one game (out of many) where I had completed all buildings I could possibly build in my Capital. That's the only time I used 'Produce Research'. The option to 'produce X' isn't bad per se, I just like to build more and more. The Guild Warehouse and Archivist give nice bonuses, but their use is too limited. It's a bit of a gamble to select one of those, while the other options at those level-ups are very tempting.
Yeah, Resoln is also my favorite faction. They feel the most magicky, I guess. I love Binding, and the Wraith Touch ability can come in very handy. I actually do not use Death Worship a lot and I hardly ever train a spider. All in all, they are a mixed bag. But every time I play another faction, I still expect to get an Elemental when I develop a shard and get really disappointed when nothing happens... I like all factions, but I'll probably never pl
Wanderlust is the name of the trait. It's an excellent trait, except for one caveat: If there's another faction with the same trait in your game, you could've bought the Quest Maps in their shop without spending a trait point. All 'Shop Item' traits have this rather significant downside. That being said, Quests can bring you Fame, experience (only a little bit usually), Gildar, and sometimes a very powerful item or champion. It's very hit or miss, but i
I don't really understand you. 1. You play a mage, right? 2. Where do you get dragons? 3. What is a gallowman? Edit: It seems that you suggest to play a mage as summoner? Is this hero really able to kill the strong beasts at the beginning? I got a summoner once and I spot that I only can have ONE of the elementels in my army. That is not really strong. By the way: This poi
Question: When (which turn) can you build your strong army to deal with the enemies? To my opinion mages are the best choice because the AI builds troops with high armor. And for this I need crystal.
Well, I try to improve the army constantly. As soon as I have an Air Elemental, the army is pretty strong. I once won a tiny map on turn 27! The Sovereign, Ceresa, is the most powerful unit. E
1. Admittedly, I never play Altar myself [e digicons][/e] But they seem to be pretty popular on this forum. Mancer's +1 Move is great, though. But you play much more conservatively than I do. 2. I never 'steal' items from lairs. I also seldomly create custom factions. Anyway, that's all personal preference. 3. Unless you are 100% certain you're never going to cast any spell with your Sovereign, it is better to wait for your first hero
Does anybody have a better idea?
Yes. Well, I like your approach, but you could tweak it some more: - Tarth isn't great, imho. Mancers (move 3) or Altar (Henchmen) are better. - Escape from battle isn't really needed. Pick Brilliant or Procipinee's Crown. - Many heroes have Earth magic, so I wouldn't pick it for my Sov. Inspiration (Water) gives a bigger boost in the earl
Game mechanics are a simplification of real-life mechanics. I don't really see why the game mechanics should be so detailed, unless it improves gameplay experience. Besides, your suggestion will probably hurt the AI the most, as they like to build many troops.
Great suggestion, but probably too difficult to implement, or the Devs would've already done so. By the way, your example is faulty: that Water Mage should always equip the Long Sword!
I know this has been asked before, but since I am bored and there's not much going on on this forum. I'll ask it again: - What is your favorite (pre-made) faction and why? - What's the strongest faction, in your opinion? What's the weakest? - Is there a faction you do not like? I will not spoil the discussion beforehand by giving all the correct answers...err, my humble opinion [e digicons];P[/e] S
