menh.. the lightning attack is rarely if ever worth the mana now. definitely when compared to any normal spell at about the same mana cost. One caveat is when there is a Banshee to fight. This faction trait means you don't have to make custom units to deal with them.

menh, just spam Blizzard and you don't have to care what the stats of the AI units are. This is the problem with trying to find a 'booster' on higher levels. +defense means nothing when you have access to very easy access weapons/etc that blatently ignore it.

yup, +1 to converting the caravans to a background graphic rather than a clickable object. Auto raze them if you're at war and standing on the same tile, but otherwise don't let them interfere with the gameplay/UI. OR make them useful by adding in a number of mechanics that utilize the caravans.

one thing you can try is to use some scouts to 'walk' the deadly armies away from their spots. you may need to sacrifice a scout to get the monsters to move initially, but once they're moving they'll follow a scout far away from your city and a hero can sneak in and take out their lair.

yeah, chaos could work. Even 'slow' could work. Keep in mind that the later versions of the mirror elementals have higher HPs. A booster to the base HP or HP/level would work to make them not quite so useless. The early mirror elementals are just fine for early armies or city defense spots. You usually don't have decent units by then, so anything helps. But, I'd take pretty much any unit over this one.

I definitely agree about the mirror elemental being rather subpar. I don't think 100% damage reflection would be good though. Some units hit very very hard and it would be bad for the AI if it wasn't taught to use scouts to kill mirror elementals. I wouldn't mind boosting the damage reflected by some multiple though. You can keep it still based upon HPs, but maybe boost the damage b a factor of 2 or so.

I definitely agree with the basic idea of the OP -- more choice of weapons and/or armour is a 'would be nice' for creating a custom Sov. Keeping in mind that the dev would have to ensure the point costs of the items would need to be balanced against the Sov traits. Sure, everything drops soon enough, but starting with a full set of leather can possibly ensure that your starting army lives a little longer to get those items, for example. Plus it means

just clicking on the banshee is enough to see that it's immune and nasty. The good news is that it is a rare beast, nothing upgrades from its spawn point, and you can just deal with it when you need to. Heart of Fire on a decent essence location is usually sufficient to take one down as it has very few hit points. Counter Spelling it constantly is required.

I'm not sure if you're constantly reloading, but frankly the odds of you getting 3 umberdoths by turn 100 is very low. First they have to be on the map (I haven't seen enough of them on map to have 3 by turn 100 in normal settings games, on Ridiculous). 2nd, you have to be extremely lucky to beat slightly more than Vegas odds (above 56% fail chance) to get one, let alone 2 more unless you're reloading. If you have to reload, it doesn't count - a

Hilarity ensues. That would be comical. Really, in Joeball's example there is still a drawback, since even he says you can't place your sovereign next to other units safely. And obviously, Cruel is still giving you 5% unrest. <b

some of the weakness's aren't 'strong' enough not to take at all times. The above points on Cruel and Clumsy fit that description. You then are able to get an extra design point to put into something really nice, which sort of ruins the balance. I wouldn't mind seeing the weaknesses get a bit stronger so that taking one really does hurt - but just enough that it's worth taking for that extra point in something else.

[quote who="Trojasmic" reply="44" id="3360513"] I would apply the same theories to "playing to win players" vs. "playing for the experience players" to my "cares about UI" vs. "doesn't care about UI" theories. You basically have 75% of the players just playing for fun. They don't really care about balance, etc., but the other 25% do care about balance. This is why if you address the balance issues then you please 100% of the people... get it? Same f

random final balance point discussion -- As much fun as it is to go grab the easy win Fireball spell (Annointed by Fire), I'm wondering if we should instead have a different spell in that slot (keep it fire based to keep most of the text/flavour). Not needing to go 3 levels into the Fire spell tree for arguably the most effective fire spell in the game seems a little off to me (especially a warlock/mage with -1 casting time and mana cost reduc

Aside from the found out issue: re wrong faction in the title of the thread, Queen P AI really does need to use Arcane Monolith for every single outpost that the AI wants to found. It'd make her far more dangerous as an opponent.

I was away all weekend, but will answer this now: first - when I say 'balanced', what I mean is that there should be 'viable alternate choices' wrt the points. I don't want anything 'watered down to the point of not being there' as some have inferred. Choices are what allow for deeper gameplay and replayability. If my choices are cut down to 1-2 'choices' due to poor dev efforts, then the game will get boring fast. Instead, h

Dragons are at the end of the tech tree, require gold for the improvement and only have a few spots on the map to begin with (which are guarded by dragons)... They aren't unbalanced, they are the late game "if you're still messing around, here's something fun to play with" sort of unit.
