I think some of the things said in the above replies are both wrong and also smack of elitism. "4X is MEANT to be played in the manner that I say hur durr" I have played lots of games that have only partial fog of war. Age of Empires 2 has a partial Fog of war option. I believe that Empire Earth 1 and 2 has them as well. Both Civ 4 and 5 have partial fog as well. Don't know about the earlier Civ's. So your claims that "having to explore the world map has always been a

Its turned off by default and serves on obvious purpose that I know about. Was it some kind of a feature that then got dumped so they just disabled it but gave people the ability to turn it on if they so pleased?
The forge builder is a very good tool (probably the best of the ones available). The map tool there are a series of shortcuts that are on the forums, but not listed which make the creation of maps easier to deal with and more functional (its just the rivers that are an issue, but I've my editor that fixes those problems, in fact minor tweaks to that and I would have a functional editor to make maps for the game). <br /
Wait till you try to make rivers with the map editor. There is a reason I made a river fixer utility and offered to fix anyone's rivers for them when they make a map. I personally use it to add rivers to maps that I'm in the process of editing.
Ugh the rivers. I had already tried making some but merely forgot to mention then. Yea its almost impossible to make a proper river. Like I said the map editor just
I was wondering this myself. It's surprising that I don't see any user maps around... I was hoping to try some out.
I wonder if this is because of the rather lackluster map editor. I tried messing a bit around with it yesterday and I found myself getting very annoyed very quickly. Its not impossible to use by any means, but there are some really baffling design decisions. For example, I spent t
I am one of those people that don't really like spending large amounts of time exploring the map with scouts just to see the whole map. I suggest that a fog of war option be created that allows people to tweak it. I would personally like the ability to set fog of war to "partial" like it is possible to do in many games so that you start with the whole map explored but still can't actually see what the other factions are doing. I hate having to painfully send scouts to every co
I decided to ask this here since technically maps aren't mods. So, since the game comes with a map editor I assume that there is a place somewhere where people share their user created maps. Whch are the best user maps? Also, where can I find user maps in general?
Very unlikely sorry. If they haven't by the next expansion (LH) why would they now? Multiplayer opens up a can of worms for balance that they probably want left "unopened". If they did it, well they had to balance early game perfectly etc. and it's not. However, a hotseat mode should be viable imo
I feel a hotseat mode is the bar minimum for a game like this. The people claiming that multiplayer
I have a friend who realli likes the look of FE: LH, but is turend off by the lack of multiplayer. He and me like playing games like Civ 5 togehter so its a huge turn-off not having any multiplayer. Are there any known plans to add multiplayer in the future? And if not, how likely is it that it will be added at some point?
I honestly don't get it why such a basic feature isn't in the game. How could they add so much costomization to the game but choose not to add something as simple and important as a "edit faction" button. The custom units suffer largely from the same problem, in that you can't actually edit a custom unit but only create a completely new one that shares the same name. Then you have to manually retire the old verison. I thought this was extremely stupid when I first
What mods for the game are the best at the moment and why?
Crushing Blow! Boom Dead!
Not if the archer is using good armor and has high defense. Now that I think about it, the problem isn't just with archers. As far as I can tell there doesn't actually appear to be any difference between units other then the weapons and special abilities they use. Archers aren't weak against melee units, cavalry isn't weak against spearmen, etc. In my opinion th
I have been playing the game for a while but only really noticed this problem now. So what reasons are there for not just making your whole army archers? As far as I can tell, they can do just as much damage as melee units and sometimes more, plus they can strike at all times and don't have to spend any time walking towards the enemy. Also, because archers (and correct me if I am wrong) can be given army just like any other unit they aren't actually any worse at
The reason I ask is that sometimes I just want to get rid of bad designs. I don't see any delete button, so does that mean that "retire" is basically "delete"?
At the moment I feel that city and empire management overall are a bit too shallow, and that means most of the depth comes from combat and the RPG elements. While both of those are fun, they can get tiresome after a while and thus I feel city and empire management needs to improve. The biggest problem I have with empire management is that there is barey any management in the first place. You don't actually get to do anything other then picking locations for your cities and
I mean there are already men, orcs, demons/ghosts and stuff. Why are there no elfs? It sounds like such a basic feature for a fantasy game :)
I understand why it costs population to create cities but why does the same apply to outposts? I don't see any obvious benefits to creating outposts if they cost population just like cities do. I think there should be 2 kinds of pioners. 1 type that builds cities and costs population, and 1 type that builds outposts and doesn't cost population. I really hope a patch or something will make this happen. And if it won't, can't somebody mod this or somethin
Stardock, we really need a way to permanently delete our custom factions, units and sovereigns.
Not to mention the ability to edit our factions and units after they have been created in the first place.
They are saved (for when you play that faction again). Plus, the AI will use them against you if you play against your custom faction. Though I wonder if the AI will use them properly, since I create pretty much a whole unti for each and every situation, rather then only creating 3-4 basic units and then using them for everything.
I have created lots of custom units for a custom faction I am playing as. If I play another game in the future, will I have to design all of them all over again, or are they saved so I can use them again later?
I do this because there is simply not enough crystal to wield a huge elite army.
So crystal weapons are just outright better then iron weapons?
Heroes are severely underpowered in this game. The epic items they can wield are much more important than their level.
In my current and first game I too feel my heroes aren't very powerful, but I thought this was merely because they aren't very high level yet. Are you saying that even in the late game a high level hero isn't actually that much better then a high level unit that can be built in a city at a
I know that heroes are pretty crap at the early game, but at least later on is it a good strategy to have an army that is literally made up of nothing but heroes? How well would such an army perform against enemies?
It my current (and first) game I started in a rather bad situation where there isn't any iron in my lands but yet my rivals have lots of it. I do however, have some crystal mines. So, what is the advantage of having crystals Vs having iron? I know both can be used to make weapons, but are either kind outright better then the other, or does each merely have their own pros and cons?
