1 mana per turn every three levels of beast sounds extremely excessive to me. But I think one mana per turn per beast sounds excessive.
Aye, it sounds excessive. Let's put it this way. I wouldn't mind paying 4 mana for a lvl 12 Great Wolf. It is very useful. Same with Corpse Spider, Umberdroth etc. Would be a nice limitation for the number of the beasts on our side. I did not go into details, but you think right, summo

I would leave the HP-tame% idea too. However, level is okay for me, and it is implemented already, works nicely... higher level, more charismatic (higher spell mastery) leaders have a better chance against a plain, lower lvl (lower spell resist) beast to tame. But I found this "rebellion" idea awesome... keeping tamed mobs would look like this: 1. tamed beasts are easier to keep if grouped with a hero or the sov: the chance of the beast leaving the party is (level of the beast

HEED MY WORDS OF WISDOM, OH MIGHTY GOD OF SPIDERS! SHADOWS MIGHT ENGULF YOU WHEN YOUR COLLAR FAILS FOR THE FIRST TIME! THE MANY NUMBER OF YOUR LIMBS WILL NOT SAVE YOU FROM THE WRATH OF THE ANGRY UMBERDROTH! SO SAYETH THE WISE ALAUND... OHH... Seriously, you are a very lucky person too :)! Say hello to Jack and other guy :D!

Umberdroth is nastier mate... I would try to go in alone with the sovereign. If you stay alive after its first attack, you can try to charm the beast... but the darling is quite resitant. If you fail, no problem, only 5 rounds lost (okay, and the collar), and you reduce the unrest in your capital:)! Otherwise your whole army might be dead... and it's no good... ..aye, I would call damn good luck:D! I found the same item 3 times in a row (twice), but never a

Click on the units portrait (bottom left corner if selected), and you go to the unit detail page. Look for the Beast race:).

21 Replies 95,867 Views

Not at all. You may read in the description that it charms beasts . If you check the the information on any mobs/units, you will find their race (e.g. dragon, twisted, elemental, beast etc.) at the top, just below the unit name. Hint: my advice is to try a great wolf... they are awesome at all stages of the game... a corpse spider is okay too. Umberdroths are quite resistant... but there are plenty other nice beasts around:).
Again, let me reiterate my point. That being the monsters are NERFED. They can not move fully as you can, so your unit is not risking it's life, it knows the mob can not reach them. Like I said, turn that max movement to 6 and try kiting. Until the monsters can move normally, it is an AI exploit.
The mob can corner them, and if there are more mobs, you do have difficulties. But all right, you convince
So you have to suffer for the AI's fault, but you can't do the same to avoid it? Nah, call it explot or whatever. But meanwhile monsters do not attack the outpost that caused them roam, I will use this to avoid them. On the other way, at what point luring a monster is an exploit? A unit is exposing his life to try to save their family in the town. I find it heroic, more than a cheat. And I find totally logic that an unbrai

No army will come from the northwest, it is scouted. There is one unfortunate thing we cannot control, this is because of the opponent AI: if they "activate" an open wildland, and those huge armies at the border start roaming around. This IS nasty, but you can always rush a weak scout to try to drive them away... back where they come from, sacrificing the scout. About the settlement type: I recommend to rename and enter the specs for the town to avoid mistakes. 3 food (+2 orch

Plan ahead then. On the other hand, mobs will not follow your weak scout to the edge of the world. They will get back to their lair if they get too far (approx. 5 tiles as I got it). All you need is time to get your main army there, and you get the time this way. It works nicely. You say it is an "AI exploit", but I have to disagree. A pack of wolves or an umberdroth will try to kill the first living thing they see if disturbed. I guess you would not like to see Great wolf pac

That is nice a one. However, there is still the issue of moving parties to a farther destination... this grouping thing is one, but there are the caravans on a road aaand the quest camps too. I played only 220 hours yet, but there were plenty of occasions when I wanted to step onto a tile without "activating" it. Shift/alt/ctrl would solve it... and the main point is: I do not think it is so difficult to implement. On the other hand, defending a tile e.g. with 9

sweatyboatman, I am sorry. "We" meant players who do not want to waste movement points, and plan their moves precisely. I agree tho, the game is playable as it is. But be honest... this joining/splitting group method is 1. faulty and 2. far too basic for a good strategy game. (Only the first episodes of HoMM are worse with the calculation of movement points at the start of every round. Want to go far with heavy army? No problem, put a very fast unit to your main hero, click next turn,

MAJOR PRIORITY VERY IMPORTANT MAJOR AHH!!! - we need a possibility to step on the same tile without grouping the units (shift, ctrl, alt) MAJOR - possibility to create items (like in MoM) Could be a spell researched... creating a fire hammer plan would need mana and Fire Altar. 100 mana for the plan, and maximum bonus is limited: +1 is possible with 1 Fire Altar, +2 with two and so on. These items could be bought and made available for un
