I dunno, I actually like techs. It needs more variety (I can never have enough techs in my 4X), but otherwise its actually one of few parts of the game which DO work. Adventure techs seem unnatural at first, but putting realism aside, I like this "get more goodies, but more nasties too" thing.
So far, Elemental is more Civilization with magic than MoM itself!
Its quite funny to hear, when MoM itself was dubbed as 'Civilization with magic'. Whole city system is a complete ripoff of Civ1, and even some sprites look VERY similiar. Just MoM brought MUCH more magic into civ world than Elemental does.
Am I the only one who feels sad not seeing any significant Magic improvements listed? Having minimal damage will make it a bit more useful, but thats not proper solution. As long as you keep doing rolls vs DEF, it will suck. And no Global Enchantments or any Magic Diversity either.
I just see this game as basically "GalCiv 2" with new JPGs.
Man, these are all 3D models, not some sprites. And textures and art are in PNG. So I'm not sure where did you see the jpegs. As for AI, its same as everywhere. "True" AI is impossible with modern hardware. Exhaustive heuristics too - it still takes a super-computer to calculate all possible outcomes in the chess, and games like Elemental have much wider and deeper tree.</p

I go with Magnar as well. And my custom factions.
Considering reviewers giving it a C+, yeah, B is a compliment :P
Was thinking the very same thing. I'm not sure that we can hack proper resurrection with simple xml changes tho.
Yeah, its definitely one of 'must have' features for proper magic. There is no need to have bunch of different same-element damaging spells for example, you just should be able to adjust the power of spell upon casting.
was just 150 turns old, my best army was 170
You are doing something very wrong here. My last game I'm currently playing is at turn 180. I have over 1500 rating for main stack. Okay, maybe you dont like building armies. But even single 3x sword wielding unit will give you more than what you got. Heck, its easy to get 300-350 rating with just stacked peasants by turn 40.

How could they destroy the world with these 0-damage spells? I'm okay with spells requiring shards and lots of MP. Or some turns to cast. But not with spells being _useless_ and dealing less

On a side-note, I loved MoO3. It had a few bugs and a bit rough release, but gameplay-wise, its better than original MoO. I think its one of the best space 4X, dunno why everyone hates it.
