ImpulseNow does run at start up by default. It also has desktop pop-up adds enabled by default. Those should be opt-IN behaviors.

Civ5 today. I seriously can not imagine anyone, at this point, having chosen Elemental over Civ5 (as an either-or proposition especially) and feeling good about that choice.
I was on the same boat but I took the plunge and I can't stop playing Dominions. Order the physical copy and get a 298 page manual and one of the deepest most awesome strategy game ever (and amazing multiplayer)
The manual alone is worth the money. All other games with depth should pay heed.
I see your point, limited resources, can only buy one game. Thankfully I dont have to make that choice, I can get both, and will. Your situation though, I dont know how you can be truly convinced you made the right call without having played both games. If I would have had to guess which one I would like the most, having never played either game, I would have gone with Elemental all the way. Stardock? Spiritual successor to MoM? I would have paid $100 for
Just installed Dominions 3 again, while we wait on Elemental to get where it needs to be (and Civ 5!). If you have never checked out at least the Dom 3 demo, you really owe it to yourself to do that. Its got more style and character than pretty much any game ever. edit: and its on sale right now through September 8: http://www.gamersfront.com/store/dominions-3-the-awakening.html
Damn TToEE got 7.9? Thats insane. IMO, both games deserve 5-6 on a 10 point scale, as released anyway. 4.0 from Gamespot is *really* low for them.
I bought the game from Amazon. Is there a way to get a refund? Its the LE.
The comparison to TToEE is a good one. That was another game that was clearly shipped too early, but had a lot of potential. I am surprised that it has a 70+ average review score.
There also seems to be a "Let's stick it to Stardock" attitude making the rounds, which is unfortunate since some of these reviewers seem determined not to give Elemental a fair shake.
I disagree completely. More than one big site, according to news blurbs linked on this post, have delayed their reviews because of the state of the game, a kindness they do not often extend to publishers. And of the reviews that h
I like the tech system as is. I have not played Empire, but I enjoy Kingdoms. I think the Magic tree needs work and maybe Diplomacy needs to be fleshed out. But I like the 5 branches thing and the way you can sometimes get 'rare' discoveries early.
I agree. Everything is either yellow (neutral), red (hostile) or green (ally). I think maybe that is an option...'smart colors', but before I enabled that I dont recall it being particularly better.
UI. There is a great post floating around that details everything that needs to be changed. Its amazing and so good that Stardock could use it as a design document, half their work here is already done. edit: here is the UI post I was referring to https://forums.elementalgame.com/393693
First off, I do not see how anyone feels like Elemental is a 9 on a 10 point scale (or even 9 on the 7-9 scale...). Just dont see that. 9/10 is an amazing game. Elemental might get there someday, I sure hope it does, but as of 1.06? Forget it, no way. I also take issue with the reviewer calling out the single player campaign and the tactical combat, for praise. They are two of the game's weakest points. The tactical combat is awful. The
The neoseeker review is quite fun. it seems the publication in question expected the game to be 100% stable on their exact configuration on day one or else it's a disaster. Anyway, it's now up to their standards, so even the naysayers should be satisfied. Now up to their standards of 100% stable? Still crashing every 2 hours for me and still unstable on many systems looking at the support threads. Easy to learn<br /
Its always nice to get developer communication but this post does not take ownership of the legions of issues with the current version of the game or the fact that so many people were dissatisfied with the release. https://www.elementalgame.com/journals The poll on the official site shows 44% of people 'disappointed' with the game. That is a lot of disappointed customers. Also, the release version was *not* 1
Such a great game. It was the title that finally got me to buy my own PC as opposed to bumming off of my roomate's in college.
Yes this is a problem. One of many UI issues that needs to be corrected.
Games should be reviewed in their release state. Period. The reviewers should be reviewing what is being sold. If you want to include a 'day 0' patch, thats fine. But really if you, as a reviewer, are saying 'I cant review this game because it needs a patch' then that is a review in itself, isnt it?
They need to add techs to the Magic tree to give you access to the elemental spells via arcane research. That should be part of the magic system overhaul that is in the works.
Cloth map only and auto-resolving combat, sure.
Yeah I forgot about Fantasy Wars and King's Bounty. I liked both of them. Kohan is maybe worth a look. It is actually an RTS. But its very tactical, much less twitchy or APM driven than other RTS games.
By RTS you mean real time strategy or? Because Elemental is not an RTS and neither is Dominions or MoM. The best games that are turn based fantasy 4x-ish would be, in no particular order: Dominions 3 Fantasy General (really this is a war game, no city/empire building at all) HoMM AoW:SM MoM Sadly that is about all I can think of. Its definitely a niche-genre.
What an amazing post. Stardock should be paying you.
Your reply got me thinking. The computer I am playing Elemental on automatically connects to my home wifi. Well the cable is out, and has been all day. So the client connects to the router, and gets an IP, but the network on the WAN side is completely dead, no internet because the cable is out. Disabling the wireless network adapter in Windows 7 fixed the problem.
What do you mean? It ran fine before the 1.06 update.
