I think you would probably have to rely on mods to get what you want. Theres no way to make the AI challenging but not have them try to rapidly expand (without relying heavily on things like free building/unit rushing and massive economic bonuses). I can understand why you would want to build up your first city before doing anything else, I have the 'builder tendency' as well, building up cities and maximizing their potential is fun, but it just won't work the way this game is des

Thats not a problem with the game Bellack, thats a problem with people picking the wrong game to play. If you have a short attention span and don't expect to have to spend more than 1-2 games learning how to play FE, then you never should have bought it. Many people, myself included, are happy that there are still developers out there willing to create complex games that actually require more than 2 games to really get a grasp of how things work, this is not a game for people who aren'
XP division is standard RPG fair. I don't agree with reducing the amount of heroes, there is no need. (Yes I've seen your other thread). I agree about the better documentation on how the XP is divided, because that is not standard in most other RPG's. I still fail to see why we need to have fewer heroes?
Agreed, there is no need for fewer heroes, players can make their own decis
DeadlyJulia: I hereby revoke my statements of you not really looking to create a challenge and only looking to brag. That was a pretty solid list of suggestions that would increase the challenge of the game, you have clearly given it more thought than I have (though I haven't really been trying). However, you should still keep in mind that your experience with the game is very skewed due to the nature of your first game. There is supposed to be a lot of freedom in how you
Quoting Syiss, reply 58Ntino and DeadlyJulia are TROLLs plain and simple Sviss, neither Ntino nor Julia sound like trolls. While I disagree with them on what's the most fun way to play, I have to agree that how one plays a single player game is up to them. And no, neither of them really complained that the game is too easy. Julia was bubbly about how well she was doing (before she realized what she's
Quoting Emperor_Nero, reply 50So let me get this straight, I am not sure how this works because I am of the school of thought that you are a piss poor strategy gamer if you savescum to win, but you're saying the game is too easy but you're save scumming? Save scumming is cheating. Reloading every battle to dive headlong into and lose doesn't make sense to me. Strategy gaming and FE is exemplary of this is about dealing with you
Id prefer we had mroe economical options for things...not like Hearts of iron but nevertheless... anyway, why does it happen that another faction always gets more gold from our trade treaty?
The amount of gold each faction gets (per turn) from the trade treaty seems to be based on your overall gold per turn rate or maybe population - its tied to your economy somehow.
While I agree that most of you probably know the game better than I do as you have much more games under your belt, this whole attitude of "go play 20 games then come and comment on what needs work" is silly. You do realize that the majority of the people buying a game like this may never get past the 5-10 game mark, let alone 20? The value of a criticism from someone that's played 2 games is as valuable as someone that has played 20 gam
Hmm...I just question how you managed 6 cities on a medium map with 8 A.I's and wildlands in the max. I barely managed 5 cities on Large map with 8 A.I's and default wildlands yet you claim to have 6! You have no civ tech so you couldn't have rushed pioneers. I am playing norma/normal game on epic with adventurer and betrayers and wealth and I also have champions on dense to utilize t
The settings may have a lot more to do with this than it first appears. When you look into the combined effects of all the settings you can definitely see why the AI might struggle (note that much of this is guesswork, I haven't played enough to know for sure the EXACT effects of all these settings): 1. 8 AI on medium sized map - the AI is crammed in together, they don't get the advantage from being able to spam early cities faster than you can that they normally would. <
I find Life to be one of the most powerful schools of magic for a non-caster focused play style. Heal works great in tactical combat for keeping your heroes alive (so they don't get those pesky death traits) and your regular units as well (so they level up and become stronger). It allows you to take on more difficult monsters than you normally could, without suffering any losses. The higher levels (master, archmage) also have some very useful strategic spells, like the one that allows you
Tile yields (food/material/essence) refuse to stay visible on the map. I played through an entire 8 hour game without even realizing that this was happening (for reference it was a large map, temperate map type, dense resources). I was forced in to an early war so I took several AI towns which saved me the need to build my own, so I didn't spend much time worrying about tile yields or city placements. Anyways, I finished that game and I'm trying to play another game, but now t
I have a similar problem I can't figure out how to get rid of, and it has completely ruined by campaign playthrough. I am on the third 'mission' and I have 2-3 of every hero I picked up in the first two maps (except my sovereign, only one of him). It has something to do with loading save games as that SEEMS to be when the hero gets duplicated, but I can't be sure since I don't always notice right away and I was only using quicksave/autosave so I couldn't go back more t
I don't understand the benefits of this approach. It forces the developers into a strict timeline on bug/balance/whatever fixes (and lets be honest, predicting what will have been changed/fixed out to a 1 year point is difficult and inaccurate at best). Marketing a subscription model for a game like this most certainly is NOT easier, nor will it attract more customers. On the customers end, you are looking at paying the same amount for the game, with the guarantee that you will only get what
While it would be nice every once in a while to be able to sit back and watch your army pound out the enemy in an automated AI vs AI battle, and despite the many things wrong with auto-resolve and tactical battle as it stands, I would be satisfied if there was just an option for changing the animation speeds (both on the world map and tactical map). In HoMM3 I ALWAYS duked the battles out (since you can pretty much always outperform the AI results), but thats because you could make the battle
Agree'd, the combat system is all but completely broken at the moment. I dont even do tactical combat anymore because of how broken first strike and AI stupidity make it. It consists almost entirely of waiting for the AI to charge into attack range, then smacking them down before they can retaliate. I can usually take out enemy ranged units with my own ranged units and a few spells. Combine this with the fact that movement is stupidly slow and unit control doesn't switch smoothly, and there i
This is a great list and puts into words so many of the things I knew were wrong with the game but couldn't put in to any meaningful form. I really hope Stardock listens to these suggestions.
Thanks for the update. Its good to hear we can expect some major revisions as soon as September. I never doubted you guys would continue to work on and improve this game, but its good to see that you are openly acknowledging the problems and shortcomings in the game, and very good to see you commit to fixing at least the major issues before trying to release another paid expansion. As of yet this game is still unplayable for me, but I hope to be enjoying it soon.
This is possibly one of the worst designed mechanics I've ever seen. This isn't intentional is it?
