a laptop with touch makes more sense than those pesky touchpads that they have for mouse substitute. hate those. not that i use laptops that often
And soon your USB 3.0 will be able to tranfer 10Gbits/s instead of 5Gbits also announced at the CES
only if you change cables?

very strange.. because they (both sun and oracle) deliberately don't do autoupdate for 64bit java. (unless you mean there's some sort of email notice....) remember... just because your os is 64bit doesn't mean your java is 64bit. in fact... most browsers aren't even 64bit and won't be able to use 64bit java plugins anyway. --- and i don't mean installer packages.. back when, your java folder will have a load of subfolders,

there's an unpatched security hole. in any case, firefox will soon make pdf readers fairly redundant at least if you like reading them in browsers via plugins anyway.. --- never realised libreoffice can open and edit pdf files..... doh though.. libreoffice does have its own problem. crap autoupdate. crap file association. bit unwieldy for just reading pdf. -- foxit nowadays does have an uninstall thing.

apparently i missed even the previous update (u10) XD for those who use java for whatever desktop applications (but not for browser), apparently u10 had a quick tickbox to disable java for browser. which is useful because previous to that, it's a pain to try to disable it from java control panel. the IE box was always ticked even if it's disabled. you must be joking.. can't be more than 4 or 5 something in the old style.. didn't they get 3.5 so delayed they call it 4 or something... and then numbers start inflating? wait.. they called 3.1->3.5... did a 3.6 then jump to 4,5, etc

which free one? the ones from banks/isp? well, sure, you indirectly paid for it already in the form of crap interest/isp fees, whether you use those software or not. the banks/isp also save themselves money as part of their anti-fraud strategy. (less customers get hit by fraud, less they have to pay out) the other free security suites out there? eh.. they are free (as in you don't pay them). nothing to do with time limited trials... those are useless. obviously.. th

does it really cost much money? you could imagine a sizeable chunk of those getting it don't necessarily buy paid security in the first place. 1 - lots of free security suites around. 2 - they don't even install those aside from what comes already installed with windows. the security companies get extra marketshare. gets more data for their cloud. sort of free advertisement.

um... as far as i can see, this is a on demand scanner.... you tell it to scan and it scans.. otherwise it does nothing. might as well just use their linux based rescue disk type thing. --- i've stated before... but most isp/banks will give you free security suites (eg.. kaspersky IS/norton, etc) in uk anyway...

here's another question... i notice some monitors have usb3 hubs.... does that mean your pc can use those usb ports even if your pc doesn't have usb3 features? also... display port /hdmi... if the gfx card supports hdmi 1.3 and the monitor 1.4... is it better to use hdmi connector or display port?

i'm not sure how visiting the optician solves the problem. the issue is that i sit far away from the monitor, quite probably in a misguided attempt to protect my eyes. thus everything would naturally end up small. as for the lower resolution vs higher dpi thing. unfortunately, not everything work with high dpi. whilst modern browsers can zoom in/out and scale properly, things like steam don't. or at least i haven't figured out how.for that matter, some flash stuff using th

so.. i'm thinking of getting a bigger screen for my (oldish.. core2duo e6750) pc than my current 22". seeing as i've never bought one standalone before, i'm bound to need some explanations. is there any point in getting a normal tv instead of a monitor? (bigger/possibly cheaper?) any particular thing to look out for in specs? --- current monitor has a max resolution of 1680x1050.. but i only set it to 1280x800 because I sit like 1/2 meter away and t
Perhaps someone can help me with the name of this series/book. I read it when I was a lot younger and I don't remember much, but what I do remember is that the central part of the book was that the characters were dying and being reborn. You followed them quite literally across many lifespans. One specific part I remember clearly (I was a teenager, give me a break) and that is when one of the characters has sex with some goddess or something

i don't know... i thought civ 5 mod thing was pretty good. (in terms of ease to use anyway).. then again it's all done in steam. i mean... if FE has some sort of standard on how people pack their mod downloads, it would be useful. then stick in an interface for "installing" and loading mods. obviously... they can't do a browse job like you can in steam. you would think the key is to attract the more casual audience.

... the do not track thing from IE.... basically doesn't really do anything. advertisers can just ignore it. your browser tells everyone not to track and it's up to the advertisers to decide whether they care... there's no standard as yet, so it's not like they can't selectively ignore MS's dnt but obey dnt from the other browsers. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/10/26/yahoo_to_ignore_ie10_do_not_track/
