Yeah you explain it better but i think we are pretty much on the same page. Except i guess i see the land recovering differently. I do not see it as recovered solely by the sovereign but started by him/her then it expands thanks to the citizens that work the land. Sence however non-barren land and magic are related somewhat by the story and the mechanics it seems that there should be a structure (some kinda channeling tower or magic chat circle that could be resear
OK am i missing something or can you not use magic in combat yet? i had burn unit, fireball, lighting blast, hurl stone, and some other fire spell and i could'nt cast any spells at all in combat. But if its automatic it has me cast burn unit every turn. WTF
im sure my ideas have been said don't feel like reading all 17 pages i just want to vote for retreating .....for every above mentioned reason. it kiddie-fys it. Its not a real battle if one can't run away your telling me you catch a rogue with your foot soldier and there is no chance of the rogue losing him? mybe if ambused or something but normal battle you have to allow retreating or its just not war. I agree with Chizz. Its alot like what i was trying to say. Just i was only talking about the light side of things. The light side should gain essence slowly and steadily from the richness of life. I just feel that even from a story telling point of view. There are always weaker people needing help mybe even let there be multiple quests from the same Inn and you could pick depending on lvl. higher lvl ones would open up as the lvl goes up. The world would not be as littered with "goodie huts" which i think is a horrible term that takes any fun and/or sense of adventure out of it. Talking about hero's dying and losing their essence. In my above mentioned idea if a hero died within your boarders the essence could return to the pool. and maybe there could be an enchantment that you could cast on hero casters (could even cost a little essence) that would allow them to die outside your boarders and still retain their essence.
no don't get me wrong i agree that it should be very scarce. Think of it as just a different way to gain it I kinda think the random potions are kinda a weak way to gain it. It was more of a way to let your hero's be casters a little easier. while still limiting it. hell you would'nt notice much of a defference from the way it is now and this way intell you start to recover alot of land. You would not keep gaining it....thats what i meant by it ...like food. <

Handled like food ..... doesn't add up Once a certain spell or structure has been made The sovereign can add his essence to the essence pool Hero's can take from this pool once they are made casters (by spell or whatever) Hero's can increase
If you are having stuttering problems try disabling your sound card in the control panel. It seems to be a common problem right now. Hopefulling they will fix it soon. You can't hear it but you can play it.

Thought this might be a good place to point this out as well. + Eliminated randomization of spawn ratings of quests as one goes up. I.e. if a player reaches level 4 quests, level 4 quests are going to be spawned, not rand()%4. This was in the "changes from 3.0 to 3.A" and i think it is a horrible idea to not have lower lvl questst. It seems to go up too fast as it is. I completely agree with the statments above about non-customizable units. For that matter why not let players with the right technology create hero's? Or Summon them like in MoM? Or can you and i just haven't seen it? Love the music in-game I hope all the sound card bugs get fixed.
Maybe I am missing something. But is there really no way to see a units stats besides waiting for them to lvl up? or hovering over the basic stats it does show. (EX. hovering over defense to see Dex). I also don't quite understand why you can't train a hero type class. I thought for sure that when i trained a Thief i would be able to equip him.
I was doing good adventuring for the first time. Rescuing villages killing rats...finding alchemist huts. Ive Experienced the same problem before on a crappy rocketfish sound card so i changed computers and it worked fine on beta 3 but when they updated to 3a the problems came back on the new computers built in sound card. Right now im playing it on my TV through my video cards HDMI cable and it doesn't have the problem.
ok by screwing around with ctrl-alt-delete and disabling my firewall i can sometimes get it to run......very very very slowly. i hav'nt actully tryied to play the game as just navigating the menu's takes forever. it is having major memory leaks http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8749295/debug-1.err
It never makes it past the splash screen. Ive waited over 10min. it never actually crashes so i guess thats why there is no .zip memory dumb but here is the other debug file. ive updated directx and my video card and have tried installing it 3 times. in the debug.err it lists tons of files that it can't find. don't know if they are created later or what but they never exist only the folders. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8749295/debug.er
