Heck, turn a faction into one that specializes in summons like nothing else. Have a bunch of researchable 1/faction kinds of buildings that let you boost your summoning nearby, or just train summoned minions. Or, instead of (or in addition to) the upgrade idea be able to decide between quality and quantity. Can summon a level 5 fire elemental? Cool. Can also summon 5 lvl 1 fire elementals. Summon 1 lvl 7 wolf, or a pack of lvl 1's.

First, can you turn off the game turn limit so that I can still "win" but take longer that whatever the preset is? I think it is a great feature overall, keeps games shorter, but sometimes I want to play out a desperate strategy that is for the long term. In this case, I spawned okay, but quickly got killed over and over by these patrolling knights of Asok who were all over the only way out of my little mountain range I spawned in. So, I sat and grew my city and researched my ass of

I posted recently that I voted poor and gave my reasons. That thread is shut down now though, so I can't post my follow up thoughts there. I did not like it much on my first game, the second got better when I discovered a scrap yard and had several random events transpire. Then I updated again and played through an entire large map on easy in one sitting with no crashes! For the first time in FE beta I was excited while playing the game. I think that one thing that changed for me was afte

I voted poor. It is an improvement, I guess, over the previous beta, but overall I rate my game experience as poor. My main issue probably is balance and pacing, I have no sense of where I should be at so many turns in etc. Even on easy I often find my units getting tooled by monsters to the point I have to forgo exploration in favor of tech research and building up my initial city. Then, after about 300 turns of repeatedly hitting enter and managing research queues, I have

" They can't build any growth improvements, no Inn, no Pub, no Brewery, etc. But when they defeat men or fallen in combat (be they bandits or enemy armies) they add them as population to the nearest Magnar city." Don't those improvements affect how much food your city produces and hence how much population you can support? Do the slaves just fend for themselves in that regard? Do the enslaved populace produce taxes or do they produce wealth for their masters

I like what I have played of the Beta except that balance seems off and/or I'm horrible at strategy and get my butt handed to me a hundred or so turns in. I have not yet been able to "enjoy" a game yet, but I'm chalking most of that up to "it's Beta". I am anxious to see Beta 3 before posting rave reviews all over the web.

As far as the apocalypse showing up before you've researched your first technology, Praxton mentioned that the .18% or whatever chance would only be triggered after you met certain prerequisites like population being at a certain level. Honestly, having catastrophic events that are somewhat rare that only occur in the late game but change the board completely would be great I think, make the mind numbingly boring late late game kind of interesting. But, I can se

Oh my goodness! Listening to the interview as I type this, I just got to where Brad says there will be a 3rd game and it will be free for those who pre-ordered E:WoM, this just made my day!!! I was wondering, I had heard about this, but I was not sure if it had changed. I'll be honest, I have not played the game for forever (part of that is my crappy computer). I was regretting that pre-order of the collectors edition, but I am excited I'll get two games for fr

Yay, me happy, been playing the betas, glad it's finally out. At first the change to having spells take all your action points left annoyed me, but it makes playing a spell caster more of a challenge which is not a bad thing. Was playing last night, wanted to be a spell casting monster from the get go but with two earth shards my offensive spells just weren't there, so I had to switch tactics. At first I was annoyed, then I realized how cool that was. Depending on how

Sometimes it is a pain to have to run around the wild looking for bad guys to battle so I can level up my heroes. Being able to research and build facilities to train heroes and level them up. Make them hard to get and expensive to use, but with something like a school of magic or ivory tower one could level up a unit in intelligence for magic casting. One could build a gym or training facility of some sort to improve defense and constitution, things like that. You cou

I think it is good as is. Even if you imbue a ton of heroes it does take away from your ability to replenish your mana pool. If you are imbuing one hero for one battle and then dispelling it, that is a huge waste of mana if you do it over and over. I think they are working on balancing how much things cost, and maybe a little higher would be good. But another problem I run into is, even if they have the ability to cast magic, their intelligence is often too l
The problem with putting the cool visual effects on the cloth map is that they use up system resources, and part of the point of the cloth map is that it's not supposed to be resource-intensive. That said, I am mostly zoomed out to cloth-map distances, and wouldn't mind some spell effects.
Well, what I was talking about was more what Stewapet mentioned in his reply. Keeping the cloth map simple is the point of havin

I noticed that when casting spells like Currigan's Inferno it seemed random whether it would cast where I clicked or not. I play in cloth map only mode so I can run it on my laptop. That still is pushing it late game on even tiny maps. But I wanted to see some of the pretty landscape I've been missing out on and saw that there was a hue area of effect circle for my terraforming spells! That doesn't show up on the cloth map at all. I don't know if this is just s

Glad you mentioned the art, it took me a bit to realize there was new art for the spells and such. Once I did though, oh my goodness. How I ever played as a non-spell caster before I don't know. I love the art so much. You should make an art book at some point we can order! I sit and research spell books just to look at the art now.

One of my favorite parts is the cloth map mode (since I have to play the game in that mode for my computer to run it). I think that needs a lot of love, to be honest. Part of it is that it is hard to tell around mountains and shoreline where the terrain is passable or not. Also it is pretty colorless. One thing I thought would be helpful would be to see a grid of available squares for movement. It is in a lot of strategy games, but something like in

Been playing since Beta 3, still waiting for the game I bought the limited edition for to truly arrive, but I think I've been converted into a Stardock loyalist. Seriously wish more people had the balls to say what you've said here. You ever thought about politics Brad?

I'm not sure if it is a setting I didn't know I had changed or a glitch, but since beta3 on through to day 0 release I have had the background for character creation not fitting the window it was in. Not just there, but all cards like that had too small backgrounds even in the game. http://screencast.com/t/NzE5OWExO <img src="http://screencast.com/t/NzE5OWExO" alt="char

Not sure if anyone else has posted a similar suggestion, looked briefly but didn't see anything. As I was playing last night, a nearby sovereign declared war on my kingdom and attacked my (only) city. I decimated his attacking forces but lost my wife and child in the process. So of course I chase him down as he retreats and flay him alive. Something I was not quite expecting (for some reason) was for his massive city just south west of mine to go up in smoke, alon

You guys rock, I've really enjoyed watching this game come together over the years. I'm on a tight college budget, but I had to make room for the collectors set when I saw that months ago (hoping that shows up soon...). So far I've really enjoyed the game, finally figured out how to optimize the setting for my computer (reducing the resolution to smallest and playing in window was a huge speed boost). Wish I had more time to play, but homework still takes priority. One

I too am a bit anxious about the balancing and variety to be had within the game, but I don't see much to worry about based on this. So far Verga hasn't shown up yet, and he has actual soldiers. Plus, Brad is role-playing with his character, choosing perhaps not the best techs or even building efficiently. One thing I hope to see, though, is a good variety of play not just divided by faction specific techs, but by particular AI personalities, if not now, then in fu

Playing cloth map mode, been having trouble with that too actually when changing it from the menu in game, I believe I clicked to build an arcane lab of some sort on my city when most of the map turned black. http://screencast.com/t/NjY2MjA4M http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9296266/debug.err
