I don't think subscription for a game that is "constantly expanded" is a bad idea, IF it was much cheaper to buy initially. For example $20 to purchase and then $5 per month for access to continous expansions. But bugfix-patches would have to be free for non-subscribers of course. Only new content through the subscription.
I've seen games with leaks that eventually effect performance (dragon age) but this is by far the worst i've ever seen.
Sorry to hear that there are still stability problems on some computers. I had the same during beta-testing but as I wrote, very little now. I'm sure Startdock will fix it for all hardware eventually, but definately understand the frustration of having to wait for that.
Played a few sessions of Elemental and noticed that they were very different during the early game. This is because the challenges facing you differ a lot depending on what resources you are missing, what kind of characters show up, what neighbors you have, if there are monsters nearby, and so on. I like this a lot and makes the game fun and challenging, you have to think of new and different ways to progress. Some examples: - In one session I was cornered on a peaceful
Thanks for great letter. And, as you write, Master of Magic was flawed even in it's final version. The first version of MoM was essentially broken, but for some reason still fun! Strange.
You used to buy a game, bring it home, install it, and it would work. Little things .. little bugs got fixed later. All the stuff you hear about on the forums here is supposed to be ironed out before printing.
I wish you were right, but have to disagree with you. Patching computer games have been essential since the internet boom, with some few (and admirable!) exceptions. I rarely buy a game
I'm not too worried. Those of us who truly want a game like Elemental will not be bothered by some pre-release bugs and waiting a few months until balance issues are sorted out. It took me seconds viewing screenshots to see the potential of this game and that I will like it. And I think it has a decent niche market. But those who dislike what they see now, will likely not enjoy the game when fully patched either. You can't please everyone.
People demanding that a PC game is completely perfected at release, where have they been hiding the past 20 years? Every serious gamer knows that it takes several patches for most PC games to reach their destined quality. As long as the developer completes that post-release part of the process, everything is all right. Part of the deal, so to speak. Why should Elemental be critizised for following the industry norm? I also admire both your honesty and determination, Bra
Ok, I consider maybe to buy Elemental? I have not played master of magic. I need another analogy. How about Heroes of Might and Magic?
There is no direct analogy, not Master of Magic either. There are similarities to Heroes of Might and Magic, Age of Wonders and Civilization. If you like these three but want something with slightly more complexity and some original ideas, I recommend
I love the game already, compared to many other games at release this is both playable and fun. As expected some things can (and will) be improved, it is actually even a pre-release version!
Just played the game for several hours and Elemental really is a wonderful game! Sure, some things can (and will) be improved by patches but even this gold/pre-release/whatever version is great already!
Im pretty sure there was a thread during beta with several hundred. They just got lazy and needed to push it out the door.
With the speed they finished this game during summer please don't say they were lazy. Sacrifices in the specification and features have to be made in every commercially developed product, or it would never be finished. I'm also hoping more spells will be added later, though.
It's just a Travian clone and doesn't even have tactical battles.
Yes, smells Travian to me. Done that.
I liked the early screenshots, almost more than the current graphics. But that is because I generally like abstract, cartoonish and simple graphics better than if it's too realistic and "advanced". But the gameplay and different features of this game are much more important than it's graphics. I would have played it whatever graphics they decided to use.
In addition to making it more realistic and less bizarre, militia defended cities will make the steamroller strategy much harder. A very dominating army will then be weakened by each city conquered and can't continue conquering indefinately. Complicating the steamroller strategy is a good design choice I think. A good example is GalCiv II where planets are conquered by population from your own planets and usually a lot of people on both sides die.
Thanks for showing great stuff in these walkthrough videos! During beta testing I was occasionally worried that the game would not be deep enough. But now I am convinced this will be a wonderful game. UI is certainly good enough. People who put a perfect UI as top priority when judging a game, well congratulations there's a lot of crap games out there with great UI but nothing of value beneath the looks.
I really enjoy playing beta 4 despite bugs, balance issues and some features that need further development (all mentioned in other threads already). Surely this will be a great game! Very stable on my computer also, not a single crash. One thing I especially like is that different quite serious problems can arise: Trying to manage without an important resource, difficulty finding a spouse, roaming creatures suddenly appear, an opponent blocking your way to expansion ear
Thanks for the answer, Frogboy. I would love to see you greatly expand this system in Elemental's first expansion. The Dynasty is the most interesting new feature in Elemental (imo), and I know I'm just one guy but it's what I would like to see developed the most.
You are not the only one. I agree the dynasty system deserves attention and development, before release or later. And it suprises me that so few
Elemental is more stable than I expected on my XP computer, 4-5 years old. But compared to other games (even quite new ones) it's using a lot of CPU capacity, causing heat and making the fan run very hard. Also when playing only with the cloth map. Nothing to worry about if it's only something on my old computer, but do you people with new computers experiance the same? In that case perhaps worth looking into. &
Sorry but your ideas are not good. You control your children as if they were a hero character or your sovereign. Having uncontrollable children would be retarded because I can guarantee they will all most likely die from stupidity. And why did you bring lesbianism into it? That is by far the most retarded aspect of your idea.
While I also don't want that idea to be put into the game, there is certainly more&nb
I agree with you Autarkhos that stats, character design and items are dull when looked at in an isolated way. And hope that they will be made slightly more interesting. But a very colourful and detailed model in this area as you suggest, would out-balance the complexity of other parts of the game. And if all parts of the game were this detailed, it would be very challenging for the player to grasp, considering characters and unit stats is only a small
Maybe this just arises from the simplified diplomacy of this version. But I had some very strange events when my sovereign and his army was attacking a neighboring city. It looked like another (third AI player) beat me to conquering the city by just 1 turn, but the control of the surrounding area had not changed completely. To enter the area I had to declare war on both opposing factions, then attacked and took control of the city. An opposing sovereign was in
If this is in other games, it is the card.
I have exactly the same problem, but only appears here, not in other games.
I also get these "fog" glitches every time I play, after a while. The fog also appears on the 3D unit images, like on the unit design screen. Exactly the same fog sprite actually, but smaller.
Yeah the feats / perks are actually a stronger RPG element than ability scores, if they are looking to give more character to the Sovereigns.
Not only the sovereigns but the heroes and regular units would also gain character by this. I like the AoW2 style design of units, where a lot of abilities (for all type of units) were listed as "feats". From simple things like strike, block, archery, to powerful immuniti
I love the screenshot! THAT's the game I want to play!
