From my point of view it seems really strange that a group of small cities can produce more gold and research than one large city. Five settlements with 20 people for a total of a 100 population shouldn't be able to compete against a city with 2000 people. So, it would make more sense to me if let's say a Study or a Merchant or Arcane Library (base buildings) gave a bonus of 1 gildar or RP plus 1 gildar or RP per 100 population. In that case a cit

Okay for whatever reason that throwaway sentence got a reaction even though the vast majority of PnP rpgs and pc rpgs don't use that mechanic at all. The majority of the PnP games and even some pc rpgs do however have strength requirements for using weapons or armor. I've worn armor and fought in it. Well made and tailored armor really doesn't slow you down that much but what it does do is increase fatigue. In moderate heat wearing Cuirbolli (boiled leather armor) after five or ten mi
Lots of good ideas. I like the maps and graduated abilities to chose from. It does seem strange that there are no polearms except staves and I think they're are some spears?
And I still think a level 1 channeler naked and armed with a twig should be able to casually crush a peasant in full plate with a warhammer. A character should always be more important than the gear they use. You should be more than just a platform in which your +5 sword plays center stage.
https://forums.elementalgame.com/385558 That was the original arguments I had made with some other input from players. One of the ideas was just to change Wisdom to Essence. I'll take a look at yours since you were kind enough to leave one for me. I really do think it is cheesy and lame to use D&D attributes. It is the most basic and plebian of the pen and paper rpg's and one of the worst s
yeah it is settlers. https://forums.elementalgame.com/394844
I have an idea that would make sense and provide game balance. So, the idea is that part of your population increase comes from new births but obviously the majority of it comes from little pockets of surviving humans right? Thus, have your first city have a prestige of 5 let's say and your second settlement would have a prestige of 4, third 3 and so on. Since, the amount of surviving people in the area is finite you can't keep pulling people from the local area
I posted an idea about reworking the attribute system that would give different resistances via the attributes depending on what was being attacked by the spell. At least that was part of the idea.
I like that tamides.
In medieval reality what stopped sprawling cities was the need for fortifications. Anyone left outside of the defended areas was just out of luck which cut down such practice except in areas that saw long periods of peace in which you would find sprawling cities following key trading routes, roads, and rivers. If rampaging monsters and barbarians started tearing up things and armies were laying siege to cities you'd see the most people wanting to live behind walls with an army protecting them
As do I. Dosbox and an old MoM just doesn't have the magic it once had to these jaded eyes.
I am fully aware of that but the penalty applies to all wearers not just people who aren't physically that strong putting on plate. My roommate can't lift fifty pounds so if he were to put on plate he'd barely move while I on the other hand am twice is size and can lift him off the ground with one arm.
I've complained about the D&D attributes for Elemental before and was probably a little too caustic. But, I've been thinking and I thought up a new set that would fit a lot better and have better balance between each other. Body: Damage from melee weapons and hit points. (combines part of strength and constitution) When requirements to use certain weapons and armor is added...Used to resist spells that transform or directly attack the physical essence of the character. Agi
The weapons and armor system in Elemental just bugs the hell out of me. I'd really like to see more choices and have the items available actually make logical sense and reflect reality. I'm very much surprised that there are no requirements in order to use any of the weapons or armor from what I've seen. Penalties from wearing armor too heavy like combat speed would make a lot of sense. Your wimpy mage puts on the heavy armor but can barely move one square as a conseque
Excellent ideas.
I like the idea of champions becoming city governors. When a champion or sovereign enters a city the UI would give various options: Research: Add Intelligence Mod to kingdom total with towns that have a study. Arcane Research: Add intelligence modifier if you have an arcane lab. Training: Speed up training of new troops or increase XP of stationed troops based on Cha and Str. Practice: Gain experience. Mercantile: Focus on increas
Several good points.
I'd like to see diplomacy have a major branch covering espionage and a moderate branch covering propaganda which can increase prestige for your cities and encourage allies to seek you out. I admit I haven't gone more than half way down the tree but I really didn't see much worthwhile so far. As a weaker branch it might be better to spice it up by combining some of the less useful abilities into larger ones making more bang for your buck.
Several excellent ideas. The storyline suggests that channelers aren't immortal but that doesn't mean they don't have extreme longevity or ways to achieve such. I really like the idea of Governors enhanced local activity much like the early champions do globally.
Noticed that issue as well.
I had the same question. There are about 8 chests laying around that I can't get at.
Anyone remember that great "manual" for Darklands by Microprose? Loved that game and always wished they had the money and time to have made it into the entire world rather than just greater germany. If Stardock can bring back a NOT-MoM and later use part of that engine to make a NOT-Darklands I'd be in retro heaven.
Have you seen the gorilla glass on the new Dell Streak? I'm not a dell fan but that is really cool. Can't wait until we see some quality webOS and Android slates coming in and blowing the Ipad's away.
Just stumbled this and had a laugh. Like when the Macbook Air was bragging about its thinness which was only thinner than the Sony laptop from four years earlier at the end of the wedge shape while the sony was flat rather than angled but the overall product averaged out for the whole length was thinner. http://codewordhank.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/ip11liev.jpg
I'm reading LE Modesitt Jr's Corean books and an idea occurred to me. In the book the Archon or leader has a homeworld and various alector's or mages if you will have sought out habitable or near habitable worlds and they try to terraform them in order to increase the ecosystem's life force which gives them power and long life. They push this lifeforce into tubes across the vastness of space or between "tables" within their cities on each planet allowing for teleportation for those with the T
