Voted good, as I did earlier. Its a fun game, which is pretty stable for me, and there was a lot of progress in refining the game IMO- I think I find the tactical battles much more interesting and the general balance is better across the board, making the game more interesting. I think in Beta 1, I was mostly getting the fun factor from exploring sandbox style, this beta I'm finding more enjoyment in some of the challenges of battles and overall strategy as well. So movi

Heh, ya I used it on my magic build civ. My leader with path of the mage could cast it for 3 mana after the cost reductions from items/traits, and did 4-600 per turn with it. The weird thing was (and this was 0.85) that even if the spell was resisted, I'd still see damage go up. A bug? But coupled with full mana shield, that was just a one person army. Effective 4k health, and I could dish out that much DPS every round . .crazy stuff. Flipside, that o

I actually think its going in the right direction. I didn't have many problems with gold in the early / midgame on a small map, even though my empire ran on about -4 gold a turn, killing trash mobs more than made up for it. I couldn't hire more than a few champions and I didn't buy too much at the store, but that to me is good. Even had enough to rush build a bit as needed, and if I had to, I had about 6k in items I could have sold. By the lategame I had

I doubt you need to worry about SLI or quad cores on a $600 total budget. SLI starts getting in the picture if you're more willing to spend $1000 or more. A quad core could be doable if you tossed in an extra 100, but I don't think it would often be a value buy with your budget. I think for what you want, even for 3-4 years down the road a single GPU will do fine, maybe with an upgrade thrown in there on just the vid card if you really get into higher powered games.<

Another possibility - perhaps the trapped player could have some sort of last ditch altar of sacrifice spell/ building. Pull it off, and one of the world mega events hits, which reshuffles what is going on enough to perhaps pull the AI off of you, and give the player a chance (pending what the mega events actually do). Or the altar could backfire and something devastating enough happens to the player city that its easy for the AI to waltz in and take it. Just thinking it m

Cases for a prebuilt like a Compaq would be pretty tough to rebuild in. I'd think even a cheap case (perhaps even free with a psu) would do as well with a lot less pain. The only things I'd consider pulling out are the optical (DVD) drive and your Sata 1 HDD. Sata is back compatible, so even if you get a SATA2 or 3 mobo, it'll be able to use it. I'd probably still get a new one of each; the DVD to match color (and is cheap) the HDD to be newer/faster

Just curious if there were any changes/ tweaks to city building that will be going into Beta 2. I'd imagine so, just didn't see anything in the OP, and know it was much discussed. Still excited for the new sounds. Fingers crossed that sovereigns will get more than two acknowledgement sounds. But everything sounds great, so looking forwards to giving it a try.

Another thought that might help: a setup /channeling time to prepare to fire ranged weapons. Maybe on the first turn of battle you could freely move and still be setup to fire, but after that round, if you changed location you'd need to set up for a turn or two before you could start bringing the pain.

Pretty much like the first response by seanw3, the best way that popped in my mind is increasing tactical skills and spells that counter kiting. Possibilities could include single target versions of mud spells, nets/webs, ranged initiative reducers (howls?), knockdowns, pinning shots, grappling hooks, one turn ranged stuns, battlefield teleports, etc. But most of the solutions work vs everything, so it could have wide ranging effects (ie every unit slowed /stunned = unfun). <
Actually you can block flanking. Just put your units on every other tile in a line. Probably the lack of tactical AI and OP of heroes has obscured the limited ZoC, but it is also tiresome to read suggestions based in incomplete data.
Sorry for tiring your eyes [e digicons]:P[/e] I guess it would help in terms of my later suggestion of a similar mechanic, but even so I still believe for some sort of flanking based AI routin

Item #2 is an interesting one. Having lots of targeting rules and bypassing things (like MMO style targeting of killing casters and glass cannons first) seems like *smart* AI and pretty effective. Problem being that it currently wouldn't be very *fun* AI. If the enemy constantly runs past my expensive defenders in plate to attack my back rows, that's smart stuff, but I'd just never create or research armor again. Right now it would neither be efficient cost

Well, I'm looking forwards to the next big patch, AI art and stability are always nice. Any chance that there will be some sneak peek posts over the next week to show off some of what we can expect? I was particularly happy to see sound and music mentioned, since not too many people have said much about it. I've been enjoying some of the new music in FE, and look forwards to more things in that realm, since it really does fill things out. I suppose from a p

Found a pretty good review for the Fujitsu, if you're still looking at it: http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/review/2011/review-fujitsu-p23t-6-ips.html I actually hadn't been using that site before, but it seems to have pretty thorough reviews. They also have a review for the FS2332, and several others that looked like they might be somewhat interesting to you. Just a heads up if you hadn't seen the site before.

Ya, I'm going for moderate changes rather than anything whole cloth, which isn't realistic (or needed IMO) anyways. A bit of unlinking, a bit of front loading of equipment choice. I hadn't considered champion (store buying) as much for the tech progression. I'm not sure if that's more a store balance issue or a tech tree thing. I guess I'm just not seeing the counters right now in actual gameplay -except with champs as brought up. I can

I've noticed that the tech tree feels a bit off, especially as the game progresses. Most games I feel like I have the same endgame tech, even if I try to specialize, so it doesn't feel as special as it might. First off, decoupling the trees a bit. I like being able to specialize my tech to a game situation, and I'm usually trying to unlock a tech to get a certain capability. Right now it feels like, if in Gal Civ I wanted Phasors, I needed to get Galactic

I've never seen one either, through a decent amount of gameplay over the last week. +1 on the ability to change frequency per game when you're setting it up, if its viable. But definitely a bit more than now, just to see them would be nice.

I actually think 0.77 has gone a long way to improve on the champ stack issues. With the champions being higher level, the AI recruiting more heavily, and various other tweaks (xp, wounding), it doesn't seem nearly as easy to have a pure champ stack. And if you have mundane troops you've been leveling with your sov, by midgame/ late game they're prone to be pretty good and swapping them out for champs isn't quite as appealing. To me, if it still needs trimm

Just had this issue, tried starting FE several times to have it lock up on the FE screen, the icon would turn to a sword then nothing. Tried a good 5-6 times. Never had that problem in other versions. Ultimately I did resolve this by setting the FE .exe file to a trusted file by my antivirus program, and was able to properly load the game. Still, I didn't have to do this with the previous versions of FE (or WOM) so I'm not sure if there's something new on

Reply to Windowed Mode in FE Beta

I think by default it's playing in borderless windowed mode. If you turn off the edge scrolling in the game options it acts like full screen windowed at least. Not sure if thats what you want, but its the one I'm sure on at least.

IMO, 10 bit sounds good, but its tricky, since you need a specialized software application that generates output at that level (like Photoshop) then a video card that also is capable of sending that signal. According to NVIDIA, for true 10-bit per channel, you need a DisplayPort supported Quadro or Quadro FX graphics card. I'm sure for most things it would down convert to 8 bit when transmitting, or for games will be 8 bit output at the software level. Which is fine, b

I think between the XP reduction and the champion wounding the early pacing is a lot better - at least its harder/ more focused to grab a champ stack of doom, or you have to be luckier. I recruited a few normal troops to supplement my stack, which is a big move in the right direction. Might be a touch too far for level 1-5, I wouldn't mind seeing those levels a touch faster (5-10%?), but have drops a bit less amazing. Just feels a touch too luck based, those. I

Yup, scaling does have issues, just most people never notice it at .27 mm pixel pitch. You must have excellent eyes, which is no bad thing at all. Might mean that a new video card is in your future - though a 560Ti is pretty good and should handle most anything at 1900x1200. Since the 2410 seems to have about 30% average more input lag than the 2209wa (at least in the non gaming modes), it would probably be best to check it out in person at a store. Gaming modes, the

A couple small points you might consider- 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 are both native 16:10 monitor resolutions. So you're not going to have a different aspect ratio from your old 2209wa if you go 1920x1200, just a different pixel size/pitch. If you needed to, for legibility or video card reasons, you could just set the monitor in windows to 1680x1050 without any stretching. My understanding is that Windows 7 does support wide gamut now. At least through (rig

I know that I've seen both items (cloaks) and spellbook enchants (ie anointed by fire) that give a champion to cast a spell normally they wouldn't have. But haven't hit anything to give mundane units caster abilities. There are equipments that you can have to add magical components to attacks, but that's just a bit of fire damage, etc. The description of Gravewardens in the faction preview post almost makes it sound like they have spells, but I haven't gotten
