I think this happens if you load within the game. I was "cheating" by saving the game and attack a strong group of trolls just slightly northeast of your current location on the screenshot. I was defeated so I loaded the game from before the fight and my champions got cloned. Today I loaded the same save game again and it is back to normal. So it has something to do with loading a game while playing.

I had a try with the Builders Forge today and I have to say, I'm disappointed. There are nice assets to use on your custom tiles, but if you want to combine them it is a pain in the a**. They have all complete different scales and you can't adjust scale, rotation and position with keyboard shortcuts. Once you placed an item on the map, you can only modify it with hard to use sliders and wheels. Not even moving it around is possible without sliders. Also if you have for example a fence

It would be great if you could edit the self created factions and sovereigns. After playing with them I found a few tweaks I would change, but I need to start from scratch to do so. An other idea would be to blueprint them. So you create a new one based on an other.

I found two bugs in one game after upgrading to 0.77: Both can be seen on the screenshot below. 1. Map generation: The world was divided into probably two continents. I was on one and it seems every AI as well, so I still managed to win by conquest. 2. Defeated AI leaving buildings behind: One of the AI was defeated early in the game, but there were two outposts and a city left behind, which couldn't be destroyed or conquered. When I tried to build next to it there the gam

I managed to play a game for many turns now, but with time the war sound in tactical battle ceased and now the game crashed again to the desktop. Seems like a memory leak to me. See zip for detail. http://www.the-blackbird.com/bugs/Crash_2012-01-21_2.zip

Just installed and started the game the first time. A few turns into it the game just crashed back to the desktop. This reminds me of WoM, where I had the same experience in the beta... I didn't find a ZIP file in the "C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - Fallen Enchantress" directory, but a CSV. I zipped it together with the debug.err File: http://www.the-blackbird.com/bugs/Crash_2012-01-21.zip

I usually also go for medium. Partly because of the memory issue (and the game get's rather slow after a few hundred turns on large maps) and partly because I kinda get lost with large maps and Dozens of conquered cities (still didn't find out if or how you can raze them like you were used to in the beginning).

And they won't sell it for 50$ to the stores, but way less as the stores usually

As long as you beat the enemy in his own territory and he has a city left he will escape to it. When he is in your territory and you defeat him, he is dead. If he is in neutral lands, I think it is a matter of chance if he can escape or not. On top of that every time he escapes he needs one essence, so if there is no essence left he dies as well.

Being a software developer, I actually love seeing the software evolve and mature (not that I wouldn't have preferred a resounding successful launch for Elemental), so I for one am in it for the long haul, and I appreciate your openess and truly wish the best for SD & Elemental.
Fully agree on that
What makes game design tedious, for me, isn't the sitting around dreaming up the perfect game. It's the compromises that have to be made because a given concept just won't work due to technical or budgetary reasons. It's hard to "kill your darlings". People who sit back and look at the flaws of a given game and say "But I suggested X" or think the "developers didn't listen!" usually have no inkling of the other challenges involved in making a

Honestly I would wait until Version 1.1 comes out. Most of the memory leaks are fixed already, expect some related to Win 7 64 and ATI Graphic Cards (at least I still get them from time to time). I'm not sure thought with the free mini expansions you would still get them, when buying the game that late (it should come out end of October). You can also read a few forum posts to get a picture of the current state of the game...
Elemental's initial release was, as we all know, something of a disaster. It wasn't intentional. We thought it was ready. People really have no idea how crazy it is to release a brand new game in 2010 onto the PC -- especially if you're making your own engine. So much of my original design for Elemental had to be modified to deal with engine limitations and the like. It almost makes me miss DOS. (who remembers monkeying around with QEMM386?).
<

How about ask Google? First hit brings: http://notepad-plus-plus.org/ Or SciTE: http://www.scintilla.org/SciTE.html I don't know about the error, but I know that Windows Notepad is very poor with editing files. The bigger the file the worse. About the formatting, that might even be a problem in the other editors. And I am a Mod noob as well, but I know how to work wi

If you say notepad you mean windows built in notepad or the useful notepad++? If you work with XML or any other format than plain text, I advice to use a real editor. I prefer SciTE as it is free and has good highlighting, Notepad++ as mentioned in the first sentence is also good and free. If you want to spend money there is UltraEdit or Dreamweaver. Last but not least you can use Eclipse where you even have a wizard like interface for XML and a folder tree in the editor. &nbs

It is another look on schools of magic that you usually see, but regarding the way Elemental let's you choose schools when creating a sovereign your schools are more interesting as you can choose to be only a combat mage or if you want to summon your army. The only thing I don't like about it, is the 30 turns after which the summons disappear. This literally means they will not level up above lvl 2 or 3 depending on how many battle you fought in the 30 turns. If it would be p

Hm, must have missed that one, but I gave up on Civ after Version II and this seems just like an official Mod to Civ IV. As it is a budget title now, I might have a look into it after all. Anyway, a Mod would still be fun.

Hm, that's actually a good idea with the tech tree for the founding fathers (5 groups of fathers and we have 5 techs in Elemental). Though I would also like to see some advancing with the ships and weapons as you play through to the 17th century or later, Maybe combine or strip one group of fathers and have still one tech tree for weapons and ships... As I wrote time is also an issue for me, that is why I'm looking for help. At least I would need some pointers to where to hook scripti

For about a year I've been playing good old Colonization from time to time with DosBox. I enjoyed the game back when it came out in 1994 and back then it was one of the best turn based games together with Civ II; nowadays it lacks a few things and I hate to play it in such a small window on a 20" monitor. Elemental has all the basic functionality to make a tribute Mod based on Colonization. My problem is time

If you recruit a group of adventurers, it only tells you how much one of them costs and you can only recruit him, if you have enough money. But as soon as you accept, you pay both adventurers and might even get a negative numbers for your money. I already posted this bug in Beta, but I still get it with 1.08: https://forums.elementalgame.com/385686 I also posted some suggestions how to solve it there.
