Anyone up to create a Colonization Mod?

For about a year I've been playing good old Colonization from time to time with DosBox. I enjoyed the game back when it came out in 1994 and back then it was one of the best turn based games together with Civ II; nowadays it lacks a few things and I hate to play it in such a small window on a 20" monitor. Elemental has all the basic functionality to make a tribute Mod based on Colonization. My problem is time and graphical skills, XML and scripting languages are no big deal as I am a Web Developer. I also never created a Mod before, but I would really like to try it.
So is anyone interested to create such a Mod with me?

A few major things that would be needed beside some new resource tiles and processing buildings (which should be easy to create with the mod tools) is the trade and diplomacy with Europe:
Traveling to Europe, meaning a ship is leaving the visible map (through a kind of portal?) and shows up in a European harbor a few turns later
New resources (not global if possible) to trade with
A market adapting to how much you sell (dropping and rising prices)
Models for different ships, weapons and units matching the 15th and later centuries
Declare Independence as only winning possibility

Wow.  I remember colonization.  I wish we were looking at colonization 5 now instead of civ 5.  (civ games are fine, i just enjoyed colonization more than the civ games i have played.)  I would be thrilled to see this mod come into being.  Are you planning on using the tech tree for the founding fathers? Unfortunately I lack the skills and the time to work on something like this as I am working on an electrical engineering degree which eats WAY too much of my time.

Good luck man.  Really hope this comes together.

Hm, that's actually a good idea with the tech tree for the founding fathers (5 groups of fathers and we have 5 techs in Elemental). Though I would also like to see some advancing with the ships and weapons as you play through to the 17th century or later, Maybe combine or strip one group of fathers and have still one tech tree for weapons and ships...

As I wrote time is also an issue for me, that is why I'm looking for help. At least I would need some pointers to where to hook scripting Mods and changing UIs.

Um, you guys know that there is a new Colonization game, right? It came out last year, I think, and is based on the Civ IV engine. They did a decent job with it.

I too loved the original almost as much as Civ and Alpha Centauri. The soundtrack really stuck with me for some reason.

Anyways, good idea for a mod. You could do quite a bit with the theme.

Hm, must have missed that one, but I gave up on Civ after Version II and this seems just like an official Mod to Civ IV. As it is a budget title now, I might have a look into it after all.

Anyway, a Mod would still be fun.

Civ IV Colonization is a great game.  Very moddable.  Several really good mods out there for it.  Age of Discovery II mod is as good as a sequel produced by Firaxis.
