Obviously, such a system would require some way for the player to know the bonuses before founding cities (like the MoM surveyor), but it would go a great way distinguishing different locations and making local terrain relevant (beside resources). City placement certainly needs to matter more than it does currently, but the problem with this system is that it would need to vary by faction or race. Some races may be desert dwellers o

Re: AI Saving up In Kohan 2 - there's a value called "saving time limit" where the AI will consider it's current income rate per minute * (saving_time_limit / 60) as how much gold it could have at the end of that limit. If that result is higher than the gold it costs to perform that gold (say researching a unit tech) then the AI will not only save that gold, but ear mark it. So if there's was something else it could do now, it won't UNLESS that goal's cost would not sap

I was mad when they didn't make the sequel for PS2/3 because I loved the PS2 version :( Hopefully, it'll get ported to PSP or DS. And that art is beautiful - that's why I love hand-made graphics.
Regardless of whether a player uses spam or hates the strategy, there is a problem with "food" in this game as it pertains to the storyline. It is as abundant as falling rain, which flies completely in the face of a "post apocalyptic" environment. In my opinion, "food" should be as valuable a resource as shards given the theme of the game. There should be a *very* minimal amount of food resources (again, given the game's theme),

I'm not against this, per se, I just don't see where it goes. So I can turn resource A into resource B. So what? What can I do with resource B instead of just collecting enough to turn it into resource C? Is this the prelude to an actual item creation system? Is there some new economy system we're not being exposed to yet that would need this kind of system to make work? Can we combine resources? Will the resources unlock items - like if we want Uber Sword of Pwning +1

"In the longer term, we are moving to an initiative system (individual units moving based on their combat speed rather than each side taking a turn together)." Sooooooo can not wait for this. The short term change will spice things up as well. At the least, I'll have to make sure I have a significant advantage instead of being assured that I'll be able to whittle down the enemy before they even move. Maybe I can, maybe I can't. </p

Wow, very colorful maps :) I like that art style - of course I like the art style now, but the color in those maps.. Anyway, I like that UI too. What's wrong with 1280 resolution? Just curious. Really like that UI.

There's so many 3D programs out there, but is there one for 2D Sprites? I love them as much as anyone, and I agree, I'd rather have beautiful 2D over 3D. But I think 2D games are even more demanding in the art department, especially in animation.
I think it also helped that the actual combat mechanics were very complex and difficult to follow, but at the same time could easily be estimated by looking at how many swords/shields each unit had. How many TBS games can you name where you couldn't whip the AI simply by spamming a large number of cities? .
I don't remember doing it in AoW or Warlords 3. I don't think you could even BUILD cities in Warlords 3. I don't think you could city spam in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games either.

As for the balance, I intend to upsize everything to go with the larger units. I'm going to see if there is a way for a pioneer to cost, say, 100 citizens and then found a new city with 100 citizens. I don't think the buildings are "making gold". It's the people working in the buildings that provide services that generate gold. Obviously, a merchant hut isn't going to just poop out gold. But there's a merchant in that hut selling stuff which can be taxed and that makes gold for the kingdom. The population and taxes is a good point because it's something that should be tied to population but isn't. In that regard I see your point. The food thing is a better example

I wasn't talking about bug fixing. There are some serious gameplay overhauls that need to be done and these will require lots of QA, re-balancing and AI changes. I'd say in the very least they have 6 months of more important work to do, more likely even longer.[/qu
