A Chinese version, an Eastern European version, a Russian version, etc. would have something on it because (and I realize this is politically incorrect but it's reality) their cultures don't value non-tangible property like people in western Europe, North America and Japan do.
I might be over analyzing this but Lake Gandru doesn't seem that realistic. It has two rivers leaving it both of which go to the sea and on opposite sides of the continent. Water flows down hill and takes the first available opening so which ever river exit was lower would take precedent except maybe in times of heavy rains when the lake rises enough to poor into the 2nd river. I'm not that familiar with every lake/river in the world
It's entirely possible the devs have never played it! You should mention it to them and get them to take a look at the dynasty stuff.
I understand that you're trying to say that the reason you won't pirate Elemental or other Stardock games is because it is no bad DRM & otherwise they are a nice company. Most people I know that pirate games also say this. They say that they will pirate a game to try it out and if they like it they will buy it. I have never seen one of them actually buy anything they already "own" through pirating. Saying they're just trying it out is often a justi
The part I’m really not looking forward to is dealing with islands and human cheese (build up via magic a wall of mountains or turn your area into an island).
Remember to record the human cheese! Human cheese makes for beautiful packaged AI strategies! Imagine the look on the journalists faces when you tell them that the AI will do stuff like sink part of a continent so they can hide on it and develop their empi
It doesn’t get to “know” anything about a map.
Be sure to leave that stuff in for modders who will want to use it for their campaigns! We can't rewrite the C code ourselves. : ) We have no shame about cheating.
By contrast, having the AI intelligently colonize an island is a matter of 60 to 80 engineering hours. As soon as we decided to have more than 1 land mass in the game, things get a lot more interesting, especially since we don’t have pre-made cities or maps where we can script in what the AI does (ah that would be a nice easy “cheaty” way – have the map editor let me put in AI priority points on maps). I prefer reading in my own language, not when it has been poorly written to the point where neither of us can understand it though! : )
Fair enough. : )
We may never know. It's next week though.
It sounds like "what's in" and "what's for post-release," has started to get nailed down. Can you let us know what things have slipped to post release besides flying combat monsters?
Put the War Academy at the end of a building line: Training Yard, Arena, Barracks, Military Academy. Each building replaces the one in series with it. Eg. you can build a training yard in any slot, you can only build arenas on top of training yards, barracks on arenas, and the academy only on top of barracks.
I like this idea.

Frogboy: Can we design walkmeshes and set walking points in the tile editor? If I wanted to make a little corral with sheep (pretending there is a sheep model) in it that actually walked around, could I?
Read "player" as "modder" - these editors are for modders/map creators
The Tile Editor The Map Editor The Item Editor The Effects Editor
You could create your own map with your own tiles with your own spell effects and items without coding a single line it looks like, and then play them if you wanted. Or share them with others. My understanding, IANASDD.
Metal is my preferred kind of case. Well, tinnish metal anyway. The light stuff. The fake leather "can" be okay as well.
Did I miss the diplomacy discussion? I was probably distracted by tech & essence ones. : 0
I know, but I don't like getting excited until I see screenshots. You never know when a feature could get "axed." However this is pretty rocking. : )
To avoid over complication, why not give a basic research bonus for specific tech categories instead? This way you retain all the benefits of the original system and avoid any research railroading plus retraining the average tbs player. I'd like limited, situation dependant fog of war. Deep dark forest? Fog of warr'd. Or at least the abillity to mod it in.
I'll have to wait until Beta 2 before I can really make comments on the game. : )

Well, Frogboy did say he was talking with journalists this last little while.
I agree. It seems especially bad in Warcraft, where unless I follow the exact prescribed Optimal Start from videos I'll get wiped by players and AI.
