You should know that the "Races of Man," include also the Dwarves. In this game they're called Ironeers. People call them Men because they can interbreed with "the real" humans, and because they don't view them as evil. In other words in this game just because it is a "Man" does not mean it is a "Human." This factoid pleases me greatly.

kyogre12 > But like I said, you have to wait for the AI to have kids to get to 2nd gen, and that can take forever Since waiting for your fellow sovereigns to have a second generation takes such a long time, it seems like a good idea to add characters that can be married to minor factions, specifically to help the kidlings co
Grove's post really sums up the types of suggestions well. Some are good, some are conflicted, and some are impossible. I'd say most suggestions are valuable, either at face value, or as insight into how people are perceiving the game and the kind of problems they want to be overcome. Global resources vs. local resources came out of the conversation about cities being broken. I'm hoping the modding beta will help inform our next round of suggestions to you.
Thanks Grove! They can't hold off on releasing the game for a few months because if they do they'll miss the spot they have reserved on gamestore shelves. Buying a spot during christmas is too expensive/difficult (this comes straight from the Devs themselves) so if they miss August 28th, the game will slip to next year for release. We make a lot of good suggestions to Stardock on things they can do with the game. A lot of stuff we've talked about in the community has made its way into the design and they've profoundly shaped the direction of the game. Major changes have been made to the way things work as a result of our direct input to Frogboy and others. This kind of open beta is really unique and has allowed the community to really have a role in the development of the game and Stardock will get a lot of resp
It is reproducible and always happens. Specifically this happens with Kraxis buildings, and all of the first level ones. The easiest way to reproduce it is to turn on and off cloth mode on the turn you designate them for building and the slow fading becomes quite apparent. You can also get the nonfading effect by scrolling out rapidly after leaving the city menu.
The people do feel flat and non-alive. It would be really nice if they moved around a bit. Ideally, if people would walk from the houses over to different buildings, interact with the tile for a bit, and then leave, that would look visually very neat. Even just one or two meandering peasants would really help break up the illusion of each tile existing in isolation. Even if you can't (or don't have time for th

Here is a link to my main post for details:
You can also right-click the shortcut on your desktop and add a /w to end of the text in the target field, like this: "C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Elemental\Elemental.exe" /w &nbs

Update: Still happening as of 0805. The having to power off my computer abruptly has finally killed my hard drive and required me to replace it. Excercise caution (and/or always run the game in windowed mode and remove the shortcuts) if this issue affects you!

I demand your pledge of allegiance, minor! You will serve me well as a buffer state when the war comes. Now return to your pathetic hovel before my mood changes.
XML, I think if I remember the Princess quest from earlier. What are the kinds of things you can define for it? Goals beyond escort/acquire item? How much control do we have with XML, and when do we have to break out the scripting?
Thanks for the kind words. Usually, you only get to see how close something comes to disaster in some later memoir on the making of a game or a movie or novel or what have you. We prefer that users get to see just how close a given project came to making tragic mistakes only to have some great stuff wrap together in the end.
The modding tools are good. But the main thing is that just that so much is data driven (XML based). In GalCiv, it was almost completely hard-coded.
How is the API for scripting coming along?
If I could, I'd cancel the modding beta. So when modding starts, please don't think less of me. I am not a real game designer like Chris Taylor or Will Wright. I'm a gamer who likes to code AI. The limitations in our games (galciv included) are typically the result of a lack of imagination in my part. Honestly if you want a really good opinion try throwing in a typical endgame situation. Dozens of units on every tile (since each army will need its own tile) and see how you feel about them scaling then.
Scaling looks unnatural. I like the fixed.

Notepad++ is pretty good for most people who don't need a full-blown IDE, and it does tabs if you open more than one document. Did you write html in notepad++ and try to paste it directly into this window and have it not show up right?
Quoting MTCason, reply 13 This whets my appetite for Elemental all the more. You'd told us for a long time now that the game would be moddable to fundamental, foundational levels. And that it would be easy. But this is FAR beyond what I was expecting in both ease of use and extent to which the game could be modded. Fantastic! Yea, personally I tend to get very skeptical about peo
