Can't do anything? I can write blogs, create word documents, spreadsheets, edit photos, create databases with my iPad, all which I have done this weekend.
I get a good deal of milleage out of my netbook running coLinux on top of windows, it's quite good for embedded development. Work that I can carry in my pocket can only be a plus. The iPad belongs to a category of devices that for some reaso

I prefer original cultures, not real life ones transplated to a fantasy setting.

I'd personally say that only heroes should reasonably be able to take a dagger against a fully armed warrior and expect to win.

Honestly I like both ways. Finding rare (but not unique) reagents to make useful or interesting things out of with multiple choices, and the potential to find rare, one-of-a-kind artifacts that have a game-impacting usages, like "I summon the Star Diamon."

One of the mods I'd like to make would probably revist the magic system and explore synergistic effects between spells. Water spells (like conjured rain) could be followed by lightning for an extra 10% damage, or 10% protection from a subsequent fire spell. Freezing spells would bring in a short duration weakness to smashing attacks. Fires might start up depending on terrain and require dosing to avoid effects. Using wind could push a sudden forest fire at someone, or hold o

Talk about a nastygram on the net. Sounds like you guys seriously think I would desire that. It's a tongue-in-cheek comment about what pirates should expect in terms of content creators continuing to make content for them. RavenX, there's a reason I used the word "Outright" in describing pirates, because I'm not talking about people preserving out-of-production games, and especially not about the creator of this thread who seems to be interested in making

One thing I've thought would be pretty cool is if instead of being sued, out-right pirates just had to have a tag associated with them when on the internet and when at conventions, so content creators could take a look at the crowd and choose who to make content for, and who to not bother with.

Many years ago at a trade convention someone had created a game that handled combat after the following formula: Every Attack had a specific type. It was either slashing or piercing or smashing, and every character had different values for their Defense against each specific attack. Attack Value + Random Value vs Defense. The interesting thing about this system was that the armour the unit wore had differing values for defense against slashing and pi

"Your desktop resolution is currently 800 x 600. The minimum supported resolution for Elemental: War of Magic is 1024 x 768. Right click on your desktop and choose properties, then click on the settings tab to adjust your desktop resolution." The game then proceeds to load normally. My desktop resolution is not 800 x 600. It is 1152 x 864. I am running this game in windowed mode, and this is the first time I have encountered the error message, it has not happened befor
and besides why is it that everyone is so opposed to having the ability to make an Large grown kingdom and not just afew stark cities amongst the wilderness? that isn't civilization thats just cities...Cities cannot exist without infranstructure.
I don't know why people are opposed to this, but they are. Spaghetti roads and cityspam is actually very close to how real-world civilizations (especially modern ones) actually work. R

My question is whether the server would specifically require a windows server, and what would keep stardock from releasing a linux build. I get a lot more bang for my buck out of them. Havok works on Linux. DesktopX does not. Would DesktopX be required in a UI-less server build though?

I think audiences which have a problem with paying (usually college-age young people) will start finding themselves with no one producing content they enjoy. Imagine a world where everything is produced for those of us who are 50+, don't care about the internet. Hello Perry Mason and the Avengers, here's my card and while you're at it, let's do another run at Hitchcock: The Interactive. Support your industry if you want it to survive.

The size of the initial modding documentation determines the skill level of the first modders, the level of interest in modding, and the size of the mod community. Every game known for its "moddability" has had extensive documentation at launch or very shortly after that. Bioware put out an extensive set of documentation aimed at different audiences right from introductory material on to third party software developers for NWN (honestly this is first class documentation.)

Building roads and farms is pretty pointless, and pretty dull. (This is the maxim proposed in an earlier post: games are about making choices. If there is only a single choice, automate it: there's no point in makework that involves clicking the screen over and over to get past meaningless elements.) However building anything else is meaningful and I'd say fun. Deciding on a strategic location for a fortresses, bridges, towers, walls, outpost s and oth

That would be a pretty nice abillity for a hero, or one of your own progeny. (The boardgame "Conan" had a fun mechanic. Whoever's kingdom had the most "pretty girls" tokens would be the one that Conan would go to.)

Short of testing crashes, what are we still testing in 1G? Most of the issues I and others have reported seem to be resolved in the latest build, and certain assumptions we make about the game are no longer valid given the gameplay changes, so we can't really give reliable feedback. Is there something Stardock still needs to sort out or do they want to do a monolithic release for Beta 2 and surprise us with a lot of new content? Just wondering on that.
Okay, I'm trying to distill the ideas presented here. So here's what I'm seeing: NET food becomes a global resource. That is, I build a farm and it provides 50 food into my global food resource. When I build a house, it consumes food. So a hut may require 1 food to build. City population thus becomes decoupled from local food making housing interesting and fun. If for some reason (farming outpost gets c

Bottlecaps and Bullets. Wait, sorry, wrong Genre. Rigma is new and original and we all fear new things, justified or not. I could get used to it. I also like Aurum, but what is the plural? The singular? The orc fondled the rigma between his two fingers while thinking about his purchase. He could buy the Oxen for two rigma less here, but they might be sick and getting a healer would cost hundreds of rigma, and that was

I too don't really care for building houses. Not that I want to end up with a super-simplified "Rise of Legends" system of building a city, but I don't feel anything is accomplished with having to declare each and every individual house tile. Every time I have to do something in a game, it should be about making a choice. I shouldn't be clicking something just to get to the next part, where my click doesn't matter because there is only one choice, one r
Our goal is to avoid abstracting your armies. If you zoom in, you will be able to see that every person in your army is different (even if it’s just cosmetic) to help send home the point that these virtual people are part of your cause.
How will this impact the engine and loading these models into memory? I love having individual models for each unit, but won't you hit the 2 gb ceiling very fast or do you have a strategy already to deal with that?
