I believe I share the same cautious nature that Jeremy has. I've been burned on a lot of games I invested in early on. Sequels in particular. A few recent examples of games that didn't live up to my expectations include: SimCity, Anno 2070, and worst of all Rome 2. [e digicons]X([/e] Elemental is a dark spot on an otherwise amazing relationship I've had with all things Stardock. However, I was truly surprised at the lengt

I think it is just statism vs individualism, but death vs life does seem like a struggle vs good and evil. but you could have a fallen race that uses life magic, couldn't you? there will be minor factions in elemental, but when it's a post apocolytic world it would make sense that a majority of the race would ban together. I don't know if the minor factions will incorporate a mix of races or not. I'd guess there would be to much tention/competition for there to be a multi race f

It's very exciting! i hate how every fantasy game involves elves, dwarfs, and orcs. This game is showing some originality. having 3 races that are a lot better developed then people are stating. The world of elemental is full of titan creations, as Brad stated every race is not fully represented in this game, just the core races, the inhereters of the titan legacy, and the humans who originally inhabited this world. The complaints on this thread are pathetic if you have a real problem

[quote who="SavageBananaMan34" reply="7" id="2668011"] Quoting Frogboy, reply 6 As a practical matter, I'm going to have to categorize the spells into areas and then put an AI value on them. The AI will then make use of the spells reasonably intelligently. The only thing that scares me more than spells are boats. Ok that's what I expected. Sounds awesome! And boats definitely suck. Look at Empire: Total War. Jeez, you do

I just pre ordered, but as far as i know it is closed until beta 3, then they let more in. Beta 3 is slated to release this week I think so yah :D

YAY for lazy :D I've modded Ai before but never created one for a game from the base up. And my little mind could barely do that. I don't mind if you let that AI cheat a little to give me a challenge. I don't think that the AI will ever be as creative with it's magic use as a player would, but i'd love to see it try. Thanks for working so hard. How does the AI choose which spell to learn? is there a list on importance? or will it take how the game is playing into account and t

As someone who loves to turtle, and also loves to rush, i feel like slapping Mr. Campaigner as he doesn't seem to know that turtle defense is. But as for this discussion I think it's a good idea for those pretty little city guards sitting on the watch towers to stop 1 man from waltzing into a town and conquering it. Basically what i am getting at is citys should have some kind of defense against small/weak scout units conquering it. I have faith that Stardock will balance

haha im excited for that book btw, i like your idea at race creation. Like i said i think that customization is good just don't mess up the lore or take away from making the races unique and having them all play differently. I just heard some info about TW so im in a very good mood. Im very excited for this game as well, im just concerned they wont get custom races AI to be challenging, i dont wanna have to mod my own AI, but i know making a good AI that could use any race a

i havent played the beta either but they said maps could take months to play so my guess is there will be epic maps, and i know that stardock just loves making huge maps that suck up weeks of my life like on GalCiv. as far as i understand it they are all testing on the same small map just trying to find bugs right now though.

Wait...I thought the Chinese were taking over the world...? I wouldn't mind having to fight any sibling that decides to challenge the offspring I chose, or having the original empire split up amongst offspring, or the like. Having additional, new foes (siblings who challenge succession) and having my original empire diminished (split up amongst challengers) would be suffi

I disliked the way they handled customization with GalCiv it was cool to make my own race but the rest wasn't that great because the AI couldn't use those custom races half as well as a human could. I know that customization will give the game a lot of staying power, but i think there should be a limit to the amount of time and effort they put into easy customization. Three of my main concerns with focusing on modding are as followed: 1) I was part of that 1% who learned

But Raven thats why i want them to write the lore, make the races and story come to life so im not playing against genenric races. and when everyone could make their own races in GalCiv 2 most people did make Borg, Emperium of Man, or just copied some random race from a previous sci-fi. It's not very creative :( and in the end the AI was awful. playing against the Yor was much harder then playing against a custom made Borg enemy. When i play a game i want to forget it is a game... Ya, i gotta say hats off to you developers for listening to us rant and rave. polls are iffy but why don;t we have a poll about this question? it's hotley debated and i don't think it will end any time soon. Whichever option wins said poll should get the majority of focus. I do want more Lore and less custom races, but both should get some focus.

Raven X, you can't tell me that any race you made would be half as deep or fun to play against as one of the original GalCiv 2 races, i play this game a lot usually making my own human race with its own lore which frankly isn't half as good as the original lore that went with the terran alliance, i just preffer a terran empire. Whenever i made a race to play agaisnt the AI had no clue how to use it diplomacy was awful and they often said the same generic thing over and over again. but
