To be fair Galciv2 is a sequel, so it's not as if they are doing things blind. so obviously the product would be better. Anyway all games have bugs on release I just don't remember so many people saying Galciv2 was unfinished. EWOM is their first try at Fantasy including TC. But then again they were supposed to have learnt from MOM (was inititally conceived as a sequel), AOW etc.. If you ask me, SD purposely didn't spend anytime on game balancing.. because they felt it

Agree with everything also. Then again as mentioned before this thread is just stating the obvious that every one has being saying...since the beta. But fanboys will say.. SD knows better.. they have 30 years of experience etc etc etc.. So no, I'm sure they won't change it. GalCiv 1 and 2 did not have weighted probabilities, so I highly doubt EWOM will be changed either. For whatever reason SD thinks a simplistic linear system is better and t
Magic itself I'm much less enthused about getting better. I don''t really see new spell effects being added until the next expansion, which is really what this game needs. There's just an overall lack of interesting units/abilities to get. This game really needs a shot in the arm in terms of creativity, and relying on modders is really not going to work. That's just lazy.
Yes. Also I'm really wondering how much modding can do if the base game has few spell effects
the documentation is a nightmare, i just read a threat stating that there are different damage and defensive types (like blunt damage etc.) yet i never ever read it ingame. for all i now there is just damage and defense. Well, there you go. One of my complaints partially addressed simply because it's not explained at all. Normally I would read a game manual cover to cover, but I dove right into Elemental because I figured, h
Reply to Luketan - I think the biggest thing that hurt the dev team was the fact that Elemental is going to be multiplayer, and they had to fight to keep things balanced - hence why so many spells are simply copies. When balance comes into play, you can't do too many things that fly off the handle, else you risk having to fight with people later on when tactics/spells/mechanics are used in such a way that they just dominate the field.
<
the reason is simply magic came in the beta too late and wasnt tested and developed enough Which speaks to some serious miscalculations on their part, or just a lack of a strong hand guiding development. Someone should have been there every day going "what about magic?" We called our game War of Magic!"
Indeed. I really wished they would have worked on the mechanics of gameplay.. That would not be very ha

Perhaps EWOM is trying to hard to do so many things.. in the end they ended up neglecting the magic system (perhaps they think they can easily fix this later), A odd choice for a game with magic in the title as pointed out by many. <br

Hats off to Stardock for trying to do more than just a single concept game, but they put their time and attention into parts that they ultimately weren't using to sell the game. Cities was the one place where a selling point matched the amount of polish and attention it received. Tactical battles, for
That is an excellent observation luketan! In fact one could say (since MOM is a microprose game) that they took Civ and added magic to it. That's a simplicifcation of course, but since they already had a great city builder....they could focus on the magic and fun of it.
Yes, and MOM didnt just take everything from civ and added more stuff.. they threw away the tech tree, simplified city management and crea

At this point, I'm thinking of just putting EWOM aside and wait for 6 months. I'm not going to ask for a refund, as i consider $$ paid as a tax/investment for the future of TBS games. But EWOM is clearly not ready. Was Galciv2 so bad when it was released? I don't think so. To be fair, Galciv2 was a sequel.. but stilll...
There are handfuls of exceedingly generic spells, and having spell damage range be almost 100% means you often plink guys for damage one round, then explode them for max damage the next. Neither tactical nor strategy spells really have any oomph. Strategy spells are especially underwhelming. There's no creativity in them, they don't scale in power compared to what you start with, and they don't even have visual effects. How much of this is still in the pipeline, and how much has been c

Totally agreed with OP and everyone here except for one guy who thinks everything is fine. The magic system is just not fun because 1) Damage is too random 2) Lack of variety of spells It's amazing how bad StarDock is at designing combat mechanics.. when they have so many good examples to learn from. ANd no.. saying you can fix it by modding it is not a defense. But then again Galciv2 wasn't renown for interesting combat mechanics,

I'm okay with not having all the pretty pictures and all that. But beyond a certain point, like waiting 5 seconds to move to one part of the screen to another.. can make the game pretty much unplayable.

I agree. EWOM will not be as influential as MOM. After all EWOM doesn't really bring many new concepts compared to MOM. There are several things in MOM I will miss in EWOM 1. Craft enchanted artifacts 2. Flying units 3. Tons of spells that are diverse in effects (This is a killer, based on what i read in the beta, the spells are all similar, I doubt they had the time to change it plus the focus of AI means the more fun spells in MOM cannot be added as t

Hi I just placed my order for elemental...(it says it's a preorder??) I have 2 questions. 1. Can I install it twice, once on my laptop and once on my desk top? I'm assuming the answer is no.. so... 2. I'm looking at the specs.. It says GeForce 6800 or better.. My laptop video card is GeForce G102M Is that sufficient? My desktop for sure has sufficient specs but I'm not sure about the laptop..
More diversity. Hoping this is coming with the polishing we are not seeing but in the Betas I didn't feel there were enough meaningful differences with races, factions, armor, weapons, spellbooks, etc. The faction differences is one of the main things in MOM and MOO that keeps me coming back.
Scary to hear that!!! Wait for demo then.
