...What is there to stop this deteriorating into another case of "spawn a city every 5 tiles apart" aka city-spam?
There's several ways to handle city spam -- spacing limits (as we already have), pop limits, increasing cost of founding cities (vs outposts which wouldn't affect said cost, as long as they remain outposts), increasing maintenance costs (increasing bureaucracy required for increasing empire size), etc. There's no need

Add me to the 'Great idea!' list. In early beta we could place lumberyards in woods, kinda along the lines of your suggestion. This was removed. We could also place numerous gardens to grow food (but not limited to certain terrains like you suggest), again, removed (but now 1 garden per city). Having city layout be more attuned to the landscape would greatly increase immersion and the feeling that we're recreating a real, living world.

Getting a normal padded greaves or a normal spear from a lvl 2 chest or equipment pile is like a kid getting socks for Christmas. It shouldn't be too hard to modify the loot table to

Regarding courtesy -- if one is going to accuse someone of spitefulness, it is courteous to have the nads to stand behind it by specifying who/what. That courtesy allows others to judge the merits of your accusation, and prevents those

The Civ4 FFH2 mod's team (including Derek) had distinct factions, so I'm hoping Derek will apply that old black magic he did so well to Elemental, as time permits.

I'm curious, as the only thing even remotely 'spiteful' here was fearzone's comment regarding some unnamed person having never been laid. If folks are going to cast asp

A new twist to my crashes when saving is this one -- I also got an OOM error message, and there were 2 dump files created (neither had zip versions). So I started this thread instead of appending to the plain old 'crash when saving' thread, in case there's something different going on (ie -- they're related instead of unrelated and just happened to occur simultaneously). The other thread is HERE <a href="http://dl.

I didn't copy the microsoft error message specifics (drat...) but it said it was a microsoft visual runtime error, but here's the debug. I was running a virus scan at the time, dunno if that's related. There was no dump (zipped or not-zipped). no dump debug DxDiag32bit <a href="http://dl.dropbox.com/

As I understand it you can use http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com/ to download a patch on another computer then apply it on your machine. You need an impulse account to get the patch, and to have purchased the game. I haven't verified this by trying it, but it may be worth checking out. EDIT I checked and you can only download the full game, not just a patch.

If you have access to a faster connection you can use that to download a patch using http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com/ (you need an impulse account and to have purchased the game) then copy the patch and use it on your computer (that has impulse installed). At least, that's how I understand it -- I haven't tried it to verify. EDIT I checked and you can only download the full game, not just a patch.

No dump file. debug.err DxDiag-32bit DxDiag-64bit This is the same old same old Dx error, from TABing out and back in, that's been present since early pre-release beta. I never get this in any game/program, other than Elemental.<

1.1 is crashing when I hit "Save", ~every 30 saves or so. Happened 4 times so far. The game just stops responding (an error message is created but hidden under the Elemental screen so I have toCTL-ALT-DEL to task manager to be able to stop the Error Message Process to get control of the computer. Once that error message process is ended a windows crash message appears. This is not a CTD or blue screen of death. This didn't happen in any of the 1.09 'betas

I've gotten reliable OOM crashes from restarting new games ~50 times (experimenting to see what sort of start positions are available -- I've found up to 3 shards in the starting area, or up to 3 food sources, in ~every 150 starts). I haven't included any files, as this appears to be easily reproducible (just takes a few clicks to restart with the same game parameters), if you want one let me know. Apparently something isn't clearing out after hitting 'New Game', and it just k

I'm seeing about the same (hard difficulty). Magnar had a single city (lvl 4) surrounded by mountains with only a narrow entry (dunno if he created that or not -- if he did, very cool use of Raise Mountain spell!). He sent out a stack of ~half a dozen fairly tough spearmen from his mountain fortress area just before I declared. I assumed his stack would turn around to attack my attacking stack, but it never did even though it could have engaged me before I reached his capita

@Annatar -- there's a time and place for everything. This thread should be a time and place for Elemental (and SD) fans to welcome in someone who'll hopefully help achieve Froggy's vision for Elemental, and help get SD back on its' feet. Please to respect that. Your purpose can hold for another day.
