Guardians force you to gather momentum to sweep anything. I like that, but it does remove some options, and it might even confuse the AI as it would have to pace itself a bit. Also have to make the guardians themselves, and there are custom factions to consider there (unless this is based on blood, although it is possible to create a custom racetype.. and they'd be pretty much sol). The best way to handle that is probably an elemental guardian. That would kill your third point, but I don&

Playing research-heavy on epic, after about turn 220 my cities are idle about 40 - 60% of the time. That's about when I'm 3/4ths through warfare/civics, so.. midgame, I guess. I can understand how playing faster would result in less downtime and make the bonuses all but useless, but particularly the gildar bonus comes up big for me. A lot of the time I'm rushing buildings strictly because I make so much more when the town is idle that it offsets the rush cost to the point I turn a

That crown probably saves me 2 or 3 shards worth of mana a turn. Maybe not essential but it might be the most bang you can get for one point. Talking about 6 free blessings without any champions. Regen, resistance, mana cost, stoneskin, experience, courage, and I think all his summons have no upkeep. That might be a bug, but that's worth half a dozen mana on top. You don't need it, but it sure is nice. If I get a champion with fire or air magic, it's even better.

Cities that are only really good for one thing might make FE play like an iphone app. Considerably better on average, but not always, sounds about right to me. Once had a city in the middle of three grain tiles, total of 11 grain, which probably would've meant units with a lot of hp if I had a chance to train any there before it crashed. Maybe not as tough as soldiers from a full-fledged fortress but pretty damn close and a hell of a lot sooner. That's a good thing. Versatility is unp

I wouldnt say Vista sucks and I wouldnt say XP is great, but you should probably be a little ashamed of yourself if you're shaking your head at XP users. The graphics card Ive got in my tower has been in there for four years+. Why havent I ever upgraded it? Because it still works perfectly. I run Vista 64bit (pro or home premium or whatever), and my newer laptop runs Windows7 64bit.. and you know what? I can't tell the difference apart from the shiny desktop. And the menus are moved a

I've always been leery of steam because I don't like having my hand held. I tend to figure I pay full price for a product (which isn't always true with steam, some of the best deals in the industry) and should be capable of using that product without entertaining a third party. I don't like having to run steam, sign in, etc. It's not work, it's like three seconds, but I resent it anyway. Also had enormous trouble in the early days trying to shoehorn even simple mods in

Also some improvements mention 'increasing influence', but it's not always clear what this means. One gave me one influence a turn, the other increased the city's zone of control. Also the bell tower claims it does this in the upgrade menu, but doesnt (although it's description when built is correct afaik).

I could be wrong, but I think they already do that. I've been defending a city when I ran behind in military research, basic archers vs chain infantry, the tooltip read ~ 4-6dmg x 5, and I ended up doing 3 - 7 total damage, with all six groups. That's exactly the damage I dealt when those units began defending. Maybe a bug.

Arbalest, crossbows.. yeah. Yeah. Seems awfully strange that you'd have to spend years researching how to use a basic short bow. Still, there isnt a lot of point in adding more ranged weapons if they're going to be mechanically identical to bows. There's no max range for bows, no ammo.. traditional bows dont scale with strength at all, so there's no benefit to giving a weak fighter a crossbow.. Horses don't care about bows. Very enthusiastic about a max level. Wou

Man, honestly? People think so highly of MoM because it was produced almost twenty years ago. I can't think of any game produced that far back that could be feasibly released today. Not SpaceQuest, not Ultima, not Panzer General, not even DOOM, could be released as a finished product today. I'll sit on anything else I was going to say, but I think you need to bear in mind how long it's been before you start bashing MoM. Some of these posters literally weren't even bor

There are a lot of ideas floating around the forums to balance champions. I'd probably prefer the idea of dialing back high end gear, particularly weapons, and instituting a level cap while rebalancing gains to give one trait every other level, or even nerfing the stats heroes start with. Restricting army size, and making champions take up extra space.. is a bad solution, I think. Although my opinion isnt worth all that much, I dont use heroes very often. [quote who="Lord Xia" rep

It doesnt even display it anywhere but on the item. If a monster had Cutting resistance there would be no way to even tell. I can safely say a list of monsters with resistances would look like this though. Resists cutting: 0 Resists piercing: 0 Resists bl

Why was the adventure tree axed again? It was the Captain Kirk tree. Run around, punch bad guys, save damsels, make allies with foreign populations.. That tree is almost exactly what's called for here. Trained creature level-based bonuses, unit sizes, costs, availability, and new abilities in addition to what we already associate with quest-tech (max quest level and recruiting champions) would make for a worthwhile investment. Wasn't there a tech in WoM that spawned additional lairs,

It's worth mentioning that the Earth Elemental is the toughest of the three summons, an earth mage can create fertile land, there's Giant Form.. and there's earthquake. You can even paralyze an army with uh.. Tremor. You know what, if Fracture couldn't be resisted.. or an apprentice couldnt flatten your mountains, I might put earth in the top 3. Water doesn't have much going for it apart from the mantle. A lot of it's most useful spells are cross-path, like St

Same thing happened to me on turn 177, one by one five factions were wiped out by "monsters and ruffians". Tarth was right next to me, and I actually saw the group that did it, it was some little darkling rider and two doofuses! That was pretty early on, but I'm still surprised the milita didn't bounce em.

Some of those are a little too much. I can already smack people for 40 - 60 damage from anywhere on the tactical battle map with a level 5 fire disciple. ~7 - 10 mana per hit. That's not too bad. A fire archmage with focus should kill some champs outright. Apart from balance the problem with adding a bunch of spells is that afaik you can't choose what spells to display and which spells to hide, so you'll have a huge bar with icons scattered around that you may or may not reco

I personally disagree, but I see where you're coming from. I don't think it's a good idea to debate something that boils down to preference at times, but I think it's important to let you know that someone likes this. I'm playing on epic to boot. The Civ series might be a bad example, btw. Most of that family is paced a lot slower than FE. Civ 4 and 5 are faster by default, but they still have the option to slow it down. If you mess around with Civ 5 enough, you ca

Why even ask? I mean, I think it's nice that you can stand up and say that you want it.. but Elemental has been pretty cautious towards throwback features pretty much since it was announced. The series ( seems to be ) designed for a more casual audience, it's not really intense, not real deep, not very difficult.. comes with a construction set, friendly graphics, and a reasonably tame story. Not much of that looks to be changing with FE, and I doubt stapling on walled siege bat

From what I remember, in Age of Wonders nodes create power, not a specific kind of mana, and aren't required to cast any spells. You're better off with more, no reason not to grab them.. but then they're pretty easy to get hold of in AoW.

Yeah, it's very hit and miss right now. As an aside, I'm not playing to win, I'm playing to enjoy myself a little. Steamrolling AI's that cant defend themselves isnt entertaining even a little bit.
