I really love the detailed 2D art in AoW:SM. If Triumph studios are working on AoW3 it will be interesting to see how they handle the transition to 3D.

Cel-shading in general feels very 2010, but I think the game loses a bit of its style without the outlines. I say turn them on.
Yes, go for a new system. I have never enjoyed the city building so far, the cities are boring to build and terrible to look at. If the current system is a resource hog as well, then imo it's a no-brainer.
That's a good news, because combat in Fantasy wars was much better than in Civ 5, which is not that hard, though.
Sorry but combat is still like civ 5. Engine is not the same as combat mechanics.
Fantasy wars (awesome game) is a fantasy version of Panzer General. And Panzer General is what inspired Firaxis when they made Civ 5.
I'm running XP 32-bit as well. Can't be arsed to seriously move on to Windows 7, there's just no point. If there's a game supporting only win7 64-bit, then there is one reason and then I might switch.
HD: If you can afford it, get an SSD. Seriously. Even if you can't afford it, donate some blood or something so you can. You'll only need one large enough for your OS and a few games.
Interesting to see the large number of Android users over iOS. Phone gaming is not really gaming, it is just something you do to occupy your mind while something boring happens irl. As long as the only control method is to poke the screen we wont have anything worth mentioning other than silly puzzle games.

You know... I was going to vote but I realized, I have no idea who is who. I play "evil blue girl", but I cant remember the faction name. That's how uninteresting they are. Put elves and orcs into the game, there's your 90+ metacritic imo.
Quoting Magog_AoW, reply 84 There's no "wait", only "skip". I don't see how a wait feature would work with the current system. You would then need to have some sort of end turn mechanic as well. All wait does is defer that unit's action until all other units have moved. At that point they MUST move or skip. No end turn is needed. If multiple units wait, they move after
Is there a "wait" key for units in tactical combat (similar to the one in HoMM and other TBS games)? Mr Frogboy provided some answers in PM. (Thank you!) Main post updated. Q: When you build on a mine inside an outpost, does it cost anything? A. In the next update mines will cost 10 gold. Q: What is intelligence good for? Does it have an affect on spell casters? <span style="co

RavenX is right, this is fantasy Civ 5. The combat system in Elven Legacy was the same style as the Panzer General games. Warlock does not have that.
Main thread updated. HUGE thank you to those who are providing info to me and the rest of the clueless crowd. :) One thing: please try to post short and to the point answers. The main post is already hard to update with all the text. Again, thank you!
OK with regard to blunt and cutting weapons some armour provides extra defence against one or the other (the armour will say something like +4 cutting defence) - its to reflect things like a hammer being much more effective than a sword against something like a gargoyle etc
So it's like cold damage vs cold protection, fire damage vs fire protection etc? Do anyone know which armor protects against which weapons? [quot
Yes, I'm making this thread for myself because there are many things I simply still do not understand with this game. So ask your stupid questions here. If you know the answer to a stupid question, post it here as well and I will edit the main post. Please note that the answers below are from beta testers and are based on their experiences with 0.86 . Mechanics can and will change during beta, and some of them we might not fully understand at this point.</p

Why should I use outposts instead of just placing a new city on the same spot?
The tech tree and city building both need to be completely reworked imo.
Voted Fair. The AI is good and gives you a challenge at times, but I'm always reluctant to start a new game because of the slow start and research of basic techs you always have to do. I think the game needs a feature like in Civ where you can decide in what age to start at, giving you some techs already researched. Also, I still don't care for the world itself. It's flat and boring, pretty much just icons on a square grid.
Crash after 4-5 turns. I almost never had technical issues with earlier versions of the beta, so this was a bit surprising. http://dsk2293.cust.spacedump.se/elemental/fe/debug_120225.err
