Agree, Specialize the hell out of gold producing cities. Hire Merchant Champs. Specialize and caravan food cities so you can afford the food upkeep on Merchant improvements. Sell materials to minor factions (or diplo, metal, crystals, and mounts if there is a surplus). Kill off useless troop units. And don't forget trade treaties either. Yes they may cost you a chunk of gold to entice the other faction, but they are worth it in the long run.
I read a post about the custom map maker that says the game uses "fixed" start points on the map templates. The poster noted the flaw with that being when the average person would make a map, they would naturally find the first start point and radiate out from there. So playing five factions on a large map with 10 or more start points ends up with half the map crowded and the other half devoid of life because the 5 starting points furthest from position 1 (yours) are not being used... Hope I'

I lost a week straight to it when it first released. Breaks for McRibs. Cokes. and a single 4 hour nap...

I like the idea of adding bows and cbows. The archery tree really needs a workout, to say the least. Right now you can get more damage from equipment add-ons than from the weapon itself (Longbow 5 atk, equip 8 atk iirc) I also like the idea of arrow types. The easiest way to simulate them would be packs (like the vengeance coating). Archers, in a battle field scenario, would only carry a single type of ammo, maybe 2(limited specialty and standard). You wouldn't want 6 types of ammo in
I think I saw one!!! Looked like an Urxen, Sickly yellow skin, Thief, and some horrible quote about beating the color yellow or what not. Blanking on his name at the moment ...
Seen this as well. Loading isn't their only kryptonite, the deadly next turn button seems to finish off the undead as well. Looks like he game fixes this all on it's own, once it realizes they really dead. Reminds me of the old movies were the guys gets shot in the heart and stands there looking at the hole for a few minutes before dropping...
Would any of the terrain spells kill a road? I haven't tried it, but I can't imagine a impassible mountain or flooded tile would keep a road. Mana expensive thought, but there you go.
If you just starting playing, then you are going off the most current patches where the suicide rate had dropped drastically. At gold release the enemy sovs would walk a 50 combat rating stack and attack a 900 combat rating city. That was on beginner. Sov Suicide is much improved now, but I still rarely/randomly get them. Seems to be mainly when I take over a city that they were going to reach next turn.

I had an idea here to try and make another use for adventurers and all other hero types. Currently, it is also worth noting that the adventurer type hero seems to be the most likely to have a special power (Crushing blow, Ice blast, Vengeance, etc...), and tend to have higher starting physical stats.
I like Master of Magic and other Symtex game because they make cool acronyms MoM MoO MoO 2 BaA [e digicons]B)[/e]
Master Of Magic has a lot of charm. You communicate with other wizards via magic mirrors. Powerbase distribution screen looks interesting - some magic rods or scepters filled with power. Instead of ordinary dialog boxes, you get those named Chancellor, Tax Collector, Apprentice, Surveyor etc. Get it ? They are your advisors. And to check you
Lets make a few minor rules. 4 Champs per party max. 1 Champ needs to have essence. Different Champ bonuses provide different quest bonuses.
Like... Out to Lunch
LOL, more like on assignment. King Arthur says "go find the holy grail", Your sov says "go find me stuff to help the kingdom/empire. Once on assignment, the party will keep going and teleport finds to the Sov/Capital. They will only return when recalled. Recall takes, say, 2 turns. [e digicons]:
The more powerful monsters are released by bumbling adventurers screens are great, and have made me laugh on more than one occasion. They also made me think of an old PC game. Back in the late 80's, early 90's there was a game called "War of the Lance". A turn based conquer the world Strat game based in the D&D Dragonlance setting. a fun if heavily outdated game. One concept from there I love was Passive Questing. Take a group of heroes not doing anything else, pile them into a pa
A thought occurs to me. Make a trade network, that has to be A. researched, and B. built as a world "wonder". The trade network will simply not exist until both are done. And advantage to the person who controls the hub? Why 2-5% of every transaction in resources, goes straight into the controlling factions coffers. This can be handled once every 10 turns , a Diplo trade screen will pop up with the accumulated "kickbacks" shown as a temporary "Diplomatic Capital" stat that can be used
It made me wonder why a guy would even have a ability he couldn't use.
It's an undiscovered ability that only you as an All-Mighty/Incredibly Frail channeler can see the potential for and release. Don't forget to pop the attack bumping items on the archer hero. Between the +1 attack ring, +2attack amulet, and the berserker one with +3 attack, -3 defense, that's more attack bonus than the Bows themselves. Throw in a mount and items to get attack speed and....
I'm with BK, yeah you may end up with a lot of materials, but an organized world wide merchant merchant doesn't really fit well with the post apocalyptic story of the game. Besides, my current game gave me no material resources at all (other than Labor pits and a few lost caravans) until around turn 250, and even then it was because I took over a few cities from an enemy sov. Until turn 300 or so, materials were a primary concern for my empire, buildings or troops, never both. G
A good portion of items can not be used in combat, Books are among them. They can only be used on the world map. The Bug is probably that they show up as an option in combat at all.

There was another post on here somewhere with a thought of being able to marry another Sov's child as an arranged marriage. Makes sense and would make it so everyone would have a chance of marriage in every game regardless of random Champ placement. [e digicons]:inlove:[/e]
Are you saying there are no Female champs to hire, you can't hire them, once hired the game doesn't give you the option, or that the champ refuses your proposal? No Female champs = random, I feel you on this one, it's happened to me before. You can't hire them = Quite possible you need the hotfixs released over the weekend. Not being able to hire was a bug. Game doesn't give you the option = Odd, probably a glitch/bug Refuses proposal = Need to bump your Reputa
I see lots of posts on here about archers not being able to hit, but I had the opposite problem last night. A single bandit archer with a short bow decimated a defending troop (3) of Darkling Warriors. Every shot hit and hit for max damage despite armor (2 hits/turn for 6 damage each). By the time the Darklings waded through the inept melee units and got the archer on the run they had 1 out of 78 HPs left. This is game breaking! [e digicons]:borg:[/e] Snipe
