Stardock, thanks for the suggestions. I most definitely had the font smoothing checked in the options. I'll try the uninstall/install tactic to see if that fixes anything and report back.

Is anyone else noticing many fonts that are way too thin and jagged? I am not a font expert but many of the fonts seem to need a huge dose of anti-aliasing. Are other people seeing this or is there something unique about my font rendering? I am running my native resolution of 1440x900. Not a pleasant font experience.

Exciting news about the early release for Beta testers. Awesome fan service! Are those the final fonts? Some of them just look super generic like something you'd find as the default font in MS Word. Sorry, to be super critical about something as little as that but a classy, unique, highly readable font can add a significant level of polish to a game.

I am still noticing two issues with zooming that distract from the pleasure of enjoying the beautiful world of Elemental: 1. I see faint horizontal flickering lines when I zoom, pan, or rotate the map. Does anyone else experience this? 2. I really don't know how to describe this, but the zooming experience overall just feels very herky-jerky and jarring. Particularly when jumping from the 3-D map to the cloth map and vice versa. It just doesn't fe

I've checked all of the digital download services (Steam, Impulse, Direct2Drive, GamersGate, GoG) but none sell Imperialism II. It is also not offered for free on Abandonia. Does anyone know where I can get access to digital downloads of this game? I don't understand why it is so hard to acquire. Help.

Though this issue sounds similar to the issue in this thread: https://forums.elementalgame.com/384926 , I do believe the issue I am reporting is a separate distinct issue. Playing with the scroll wheel more on my mouse has revealed to me that Elemental seems to "too literally" interpret the distinct clicks of the mouse scroll wheel causing the zooming in and out to feel jumpy. Other games such as Civ IV zoom silky smooth wi

Right, and for me, when I use the mouse wheel to zoom on Civ IV it zooms silky smooth. It seems like Elemental is missing some algorithm that converts the clicky, digital nature of the zoom wheel into a smooth silky zoom. The game is interpreting the motion of clicky mouse wheels too literally.

Not sure we can really do much about a driver issue though. Thanks so much for the reply, Frogboy. It's not a driver issue, I believe; using the wrong drivers is just a work-around. It's related to post #8 above, and only effects mice that ha

I believe I am experiencing this same issue with my Logitech V450 Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks. Rotating the map and moving the map is as smooth as silk, but when I zoom using the scroll wheel on my mouse it is very choppy. Seems like it is skipping between every 3 levels of zoom rather than zooming smoothly. UPDATE - I just tried zooming using the trackpad on my laptop and sure enough it zooms perfectly smoothly so it does appear that this is definitely some

When I use the scroll wheel on my mouse to zoom in and out of the map I have consistently observed a very noticeable jump between the zoom levels on the map rather than a smooth transition between zoom levels. Is this something that everyone is experiencing and it is just part of the roughness of the beta or does this have something to do with my video card not being up to snuff? On Frogboy's gameplay videos it seems to zoom quite smoothly between zoom levels so I am suspecting th

Having two, what seem to be related video issues: 1. When going through the new game setup, when you get to the menu where you choose your kingdom the portrait of my leader on the right is all whited out. 2. During the game if I zoom in beyond the cloth map the map just looks like a big white haze. Help me! This sucks. I am running a Intel Centrino Duo with a Nvidia Video Card (256MB) and over 2GB of RAM. My rig should be
skdyer, it's not DONE yet, the features aren't all included. Perhaps you didn't mean it as a criticism, but I don't think I'd judge Elemental's strategic depth yet; it's not a "game" yet! I think once economy is fixed and implemented there are going to be a lot more units in the game and more battles. Battles are currently abstracted but I'm pretty sure they're aiming at turning that off once the testing phase is further alon
I think there are some definitely some fantasy TBS games, including the newish King's Bounty series, and the slightly older, though in decline, Heroes of Might and Magic, which peaked about two games ago with HOMM 3. Disciples I and II were also decent, if decidedly different, and not really a 4x type game.
I agree with the HoMM part, as far as I am concerned the last great fantasy based TBS that was made was Heroes of Might and Magic III. It's

I think there is another, simpler response to the question: "Why do we need Elemental when we have Civ IV and GalCiv II?" In the realm of TBS 4X games there are three sub-genres: Historical, Space, and Fantasy. There is a HUGE void when it comes to fantasy TBS. Clearly Civ IV leads the historical sub-genre, GalCiv II leads space, and Elemental will now finally satisfy the demand for a fantasy based TBS. There's a demand there for sure. It completes the holy tri

I solved my own problem. By decreasing the anti-aliasing in the video settings from 4x to 2x this problem is resolved. Why did I have to do that? Does that mean I have a crappy video card?

Question: I am currently running the most recent version of the beta on my laptop. The game runs very sluggishly on my computer. It is basically very slow reacting to my actions, for example if I click on something or try to scroll the map it takes a while before the game responds. Is this something that everyone is experiencing since this is still in Beta or does this sound like something that is very specific to some limitations of my laptop? Any guidance would be ap
