They've fixed all the critical things and hang-ups and have re-enabled a lot of content. It plays like a game now but they're still not at where they should've been at launch. In the coming month there will be a couple huge patches that actually complete the game (and lord forbid, start to balance it). At least, that's the schedule. With the way they put out fast and furious updates the last two months, I'm pretty sure they'll have it in good working order by the end o
Best game by the most amount of time sucked into it: Sword of the Stars: Wow, there's ten million years of replayability in that one. Titan Quest (plus Immortal Throne): I never thought I'd play a hack 'n slash this much, but they sure got everything right. Shame that THQ had to quit supporting it. I'll probably still be playing it when D3 comes out. Medieval 2 (for the mods, although M1 and Rome had some pretty awesome ones too). That Third Age mod is

And EVERYBODY bitched about it being too simplistic, too one-dimensional. So I say let's wait and see what the stats actually do before we bitch about it in FE. It could be bad. It could be good. That's good to hear... I never "hated" Morrowind and Oblivion, but I could never get into them (despite sinking many many hours into it). They definitely had some cool things going for them, but I always felt like I was doing things "wrong". I probably only felt that way because I watched my friends play a couple times and they had all done this super mix/max, run super fast while invisible, insta-win character stuff so they could run through Oblivion gates without touching anyb
One thing I forgot to add is that if you're still uncomfortable with the game, try a different race. Each one really does play differently, and it'll help a lot to get familiar with the game while not trying to fight a certain playstyle. I love turtling and building up my economy before venturing out and steamrolling everyone, so usually I play Hivers or Morrigi. I am the most uncomfortable with playing the Zuul, because their whole race is about enslaving other races and chewing up r
1. When designing cruisers, check the mission modules (center section) for the barrage section or the command (front) module for the assault sections. Torpedoes have their own specific weapon slot, and different races have different affinities for different weapon techs. If I remember correctly, humans also have heavy beams on their sections with torpedoes, so if you don't have Heavy Combat Lasers as well (usually unlocked by researching ultraviolet lasers), those sections will not be unl

As someone who did it once already in my life, and in a mostly unemployable degree field at that, I understand the difficulty of the decision. But lets not forget that it is a choice. PhD candidates are not poor and down on their luck like the traditional recipient of government help. They're highly capable adults who voluntarily p

Ironically, that's the name for Stardock's 2nd expansion Elemental: Fallen Enchantress Stormworld: Titan's Call! Not quite up to Dark Forces III: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, but close!
Yeah, the comparison isn't really fair between SotS and Sins. I'd say Sins gameplay is much closer to Starcraft than SotS... trying to build up masses of regular and hero units to throw at the enemy in the fastest way possible. Its pacing is slower for sure, but you're doing the same thing. In SotS, battles are much more reliant on tactics and loadout than numbers (although numbers do help) and reflex/micromanaging hero abilities. I never really got the branding of
What louist said. SotS Prime had a rocky launch and is now (in my mind) the gold standard for space 4x. Kerberos will finish SotS][ and it will be the next game I play for 5 years straight (along with FE, sucking and cancer aside :) ). Unless of course the rumors of Kerberos going under because they're almost broke and Paradox forced them to release so they could get cash to keep developing are true, which would be pretty sad. I haven't played SotS][ yet, my box
I've been watching SotS II for a long time, the only game I've ever pre-ordered along with Elemental and Shogun 2. It's a shame that the release has been so poor. I have a boxed copy on the way (via the paradox store), but I won't get to play it until November 14th. Hopefully they'll have everything figured out by then. I view Kerberos the same way I view Stardock, a game company that really cares about making good games with a lot of post-launch support. Mecron is very di
I've run into this problem as well playing as an Empire, Magnar specifically. Any new Trog units only have 3HP, whereas the standard peasant (non-trog) has 5.

I just don't really care what they call it as long as it is somewhat intuitive and s
Sounds awesome, will give this a try when I get home.
FOW/BS semantics aside (remember when there was that huge "zone of control" vs. "influence" argument, lolz), it looks good! I like how you can see the edge of what lies beyond, as if you're standing on the edge of a huge gloomy forest you haven't explored yet.

Clearly you must have a lack of experience with random events and need to play Sword of the Stars with randoms set to 200%. The balance of the game is better that way than without randoms. Got a DX Invalid Call after alt-tabbing out. Technology does't update the turn it's researched, it applies the turn after. Because of this, I could research all 5 tech areas, but then apply the done research to a different category by switching the focus before hitting the end turn button, effectively being able to gain 5 research levels in one area for the research price of researching 5 level one areas. Well that was a great read. Just found one error, "Slow" is listed twice as both a Water I and Water II spell with the exact same effect. Well, you can chalk this thread up for one purchase of Dom3... never heard of it before this now I can't stop playing it. I feel like I could play this game for a year and not know the half of it. Something to do while waiting for 1.3 and FE.
I always thought the intent of Elemental was to have "technology" separate from "magic". Something where your arcane ability would not be tied to how many libraries or cities you have, where you could have a nation of few cities, people and production capability but still rival mighty kingdoms through the force of powerful magic. Battles where armies of mighty soldiers battle against a few but powerful magi, etc. Don't suppose we could mod in two separate tech trees, whe
