I think that city building should be more complicated, less...busy work. No one wants to start each city off the same way, but instead cities should be reactive to where they are and what they are meant to be. I see a few ways to do this... Governor/Mayor Method - this revolves around allowing us to click the 'governor/mayor' button, tell it what to favor building, and let the AI build our city for us. Alpha Centauri had this method, and it was extremel

The problem isn't so much that city building needs to be dumbed down - it's that city building needs to be done in a way that makes it worthwhile. A lot of people have commented on having a number of gardens and houses in their cities, which makes cities mostly those structures - and having little option for anything else, you are restricted. I think that something needs to be done so that houses are not just there, but actually have a purpose - and that gardens aren't absolutely REQUIRED to

After I accidently destroyed a farm in my city (putting me at -18 food) I found that I couldn't build the farm again. Had to restart the game.

Regarding the newer items/weapons/damage types, an idea struck me... Why are units all the same? By that I mean...if my kingdom builds a knight in full plate with a longsword and a shield, it's the exact same as any other kingdom's unit with full plate, longsword and shield. Sure, I can give my knight a different face...but what's the point? He's still the exact same as anyone else. And it seems fairly strange that my units are all so plain - just a guy in armor with a weapon. <p

I agree with a lot of these. And since I've referenced Alpha Centauri umpteen times so far, I'll do it again! 1. In AC, the AI would quickly turn against you. If you were first in ranking and an AI second, the AI would hate you. Even as an ally, the AI would screw you behind your back. Heck, I remember being extremely technologically advanced...I gave a tech to my ally, number two. A few turns later, that tech (hovertanks, an end-game unit) was beginning to show up in my current enemy

I know I saw in a map - somewhere? - that some places were named. At least on the campaign map... What Alpha Centauri did was have a number of premade noteable things and would incorporate any number of them into a map. Instead of just being nifty named stuff, they had inherent bonuses. Building at the top of a massive plateau (SP?) was great for sunlight and thus solar power. I agree with all of this.

Like the idea of merging. With some sort of benefit, perhaps - if I build 4 houses in a block (and for my sanity, house = 100 people) then to have them merge into a 'residential quarter' would be nice. And to have that quarter gain, say, an extra % to it's housing would be even nicer - it would encourage players to think ahead on the plotting of their cities. So with one 'residential quarter' of 100*4 population, perhaps there would be a boost of 50 people - so now, I have 450 instead

A major point I have - I could tell I was playing the same sort of game as GalCiv2. I spent a LOT of turns just waiting for the next tech development. Often spawned right next to fairly powerful enemies. One example was being in a circular mountain range...with a Sand Golem guarding the exit from said range. Yeah...not convenient. Would really prefer to spawn near weaker enemies. Or none at all. Often went stabbity on innocent NPCs because it was a real pain to recr

Sometimes, loading a saved game - mainly with the autosaves - causes the game to freeze.

I had the refined farming work better sometimes - not always. I haven't actually compared the before/after to know if refined housing is the same way. The way that I read it was based off of my GalCiv experiences. That is, each refined tech increases the associated ability by a percent. So refined housing may only add +15% or something, so ti won't appear to be a wholly massive increase. But, then again, I could be totally wrong : )

Crashes Memory issue. Brad mentioned this already. DX Error: Invalid Call frequently happened. Examples: Tried to read the Hiergamon on a golem. Ended a tun. Tried to access building menu. Random Stuff After using all of my materials, the window where resources were held collapsed too far - over my gold, so I could hardly see what I had. When adding/removing AI players in a map, the buttons wer

Been playing since around, oh, five. Off and on. Crashes left and right, but it's still a fun game. I've just adapted by saving a ton. Keeping a nifty journal of various stuffs... I digress. The game is fun, even at this stage and even with (for lack of a better term) lackluster graphics. -N

Perhaps something like this... Each city has some sort of structure that promotes a degree of magical defense. Sacred sites, temples, elemental crystals, monuments, etc. all contribute to it, some more than others. For example, a FIRE crystal node will offer some resistance against AIR and EARTH magic, but will offer more resistance against WATER magic. Structures initially give 100% of their bonus (IE, if a temple gives me 5 resistance, the first one always gives 5)

Why would we take it personally if you don't use a suggestion of ours? It seems like common sense - what's fun for me might not be fun to the other players. I'm just happy actually HAVING a say in everything. And I like to think that having a Stardock rep respond to just some praise says it all - Stardock doesn't just put out games. They put out products, seeking to have happy customers. Case. In. Point.

Generally speaking, I don't do pre-orders. That just screams 'foul' to me - why pay in advance for something that is not only not finished, but without any sort of promise as to it's finality? To pre-order is to put your hands, or rather your money, in the hands of a money-grabbing company. Most companies don't care one whit for their customers - if they have the money, they're all set. How else can we look at so many failed products and understand that there are companies raking in the dough

I am...painfully close to pre-ordering this. For the first time, ever, I am about to pre-order a game. Will Beta 2 be MP only, or will I be able to play around in single player? I get...well, with a new game, I get distracted fairly easily, and I don't last long in MP games usually. -N

This is the basis, to a broad degree, of the 'SimFantasy' fans - what I'd like to see is less minor factions, more lairs being able to form minor factions. That is, if you have three groups of goblins in three separate lairs, they could unite into their own little group and suddenly, you are competing against the other Sov's with a handful of goblins telling you their demands.

So! gone through and read all of this...give or take. Ish. And I have found some questions...mainly because I really don't think we have enough information to clearly point out ideas regarding how to do tactical combat. How many tiles are we looking at here? Is it like Heroes of Might and Magic where you have a handful of tiles, some units take up 1 tile, others take up a 2x2 tile, and it's not terribly hard to cross the map in one turn? Perhaps it's like Age of Wonders, with a

EDIT: Please forgive the wall of text. While normally I read or skim everyone else's post before making my own, this time around I decided to just throw in my opinions, and then go back and read...everyone else's post. So things covered beforehand, I'm sorry, I won't know about. Is it feasible to have a screenshot/drawing of what we're looking at, Brad? Something to go on? Regarding Combat Speed and Combined Armies I think Sauron was so badass

[quote who="CrusaderScott" reply="148" id="2629707"] You're referring to a WEGO system, right? I am very glad EWoM is going to be turn-based as no matter how it is implemented, real time battles never feel as tactically satisfying as turn-based battles. Now that we are going in a TB direction, I agree that WEGO would be the best way to achieve that. WEGO games provide all the thoughtful tactics that are inherent to a TB game, but also provides the tension of a RTS
