Yeah, I think that this is what Froggie meant. If this is correct, I am disappointed as well. 200v200 max? That is far from being an "epic battle". Oh well, if we can change the cap from 20 -> 100 for example via modding...well, I am not really worried in that case.
Agreed. 400 vs 400 doesn't sound like it would feel that "Epic" to me. As long as we can Mod that though I don't see a problem. And yes, before an
We have made some adjustments to unit sizes based on our internal betas. The largest sized group (for now) is going to be around 20 units. There was too much difficulty scaling/balancing a scenario where a single unit can range from 1 person to 1000 people. It just wasn't fun.
This has me curious now. So, are you saying a "Single Unit" can only have 20 "Individual Soldiers" ? And if so, can we cha
I was wondering how the AI would handle players making islands of their lands or raising a chain of mountains as a natural wall of defense. I'm Very Glad the AI will be able to counter act this. Well Done Frogboy!! 3 Cheers for the AI Boss!! Hip Hip...Horaaay!!
At first I thought it didn't really matter to me, but then I thought a little more... When you Zoom Out to a certain point they turn into Pewter Statues anyway, right? Since they do that (which I like), I'd like to have the scaling stay "Fixed" so the units get smaller as I zoom out, then they turn into Pewter Statues once I zoom out to cloth map mode and they get a little bigger when they turn into statues. So my vote is, Fixed.
Too much reading in and misinterpretation. I said a typical battle would last 3 minutes. We're not hard coding battles to a time limit (it's turn based, you could go to bed and come back the next morning). That doesn't mean late game battles won't be more epic but what % of your game is spent in late game climatic battles versus the typical skirmish of a dozen vs. a dozen?
That makes me
@ You guys that had minor glitches that didn't happen again when you played. This might be a stupid question, but after you downloaded and installed the game, did you do the customary "Restart" before going straight into the game? I know most apps and games today don't "Require" you to restart machine, but I do anyway and it tends to solve a lot of those kinds of issues.
I get it. But it doesn't change the issue with things like "minimum" hour long battles that someone suggested. That's not practical. What makes those long, epic, crazy battles so good is that they're rare. A typical encounter being 3 minutes means the one that takes 45 where your entire army is nearly wiped out but you win the day by the skin of your teeth is all the more special. When every battle takes 45 minutes you'll have play
I just think artificial limits are bad. Plain and simple. But you're just making an assumption that the 3 minutes is an artificial limit, that was already debunked by LTW earlier. Balancing map size, pacing, stats so that an average (meaning, "Most of your battles will be like this") battle takes about 3 minutes to play out is vastly different from having an artificial limit on a battle.
That's true.
This means you can control the battle long enough to make sure you're going to win without taking massive losses, THEN hit Auto Resolve so you don't have to "Mop Up".
I feel I should expand on this with an example: Battle: Players Army: Sovereign, 10 Foot Soldiers, 1 Spell Casting Champion, 10 Archers. AI Army: 1 Spell Casting Champion, 10 Foot Soldiers, 10 Archers. I would play long eno
Quoting Raven X, reply 161 That's why all those people who don't want to play through each battle need is the option to Auto Calculate at Any Time they want, which Frogboy already said was going to be possible. That's why it's pretty pointless to be listening to anyone who's saying "Whaaaa, I don't want to fight long battles"...So DON'T, just Hit Auto Calculate and be Done With It IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT. Personal
Raven X comment 163 That's why You can End the Battle Any Time YOU Want. If you don't want to play through those long battles, YOU don't have to . Just hit Auto Calculate which you'll be able to do at ANY TIME. See what I'm getting at here? There's No Need to gimp the game for those of us who DO want to play through the long battles when those who don't want too don't have too. As I've said, I beli
Ahh yeap, my bad. I read an article earlier today that said the new episodes would be airing on Fox. After checking, they did indeed air on Comedy Central, not Fox. I didn't even know about any new episodes until last night. Luckily I was able to catch up by watching them (Legally) Online.
I have to pitch it with the guys here who are saying that you've got to be really careful not to confuse zillions of cities/units with epic. There are epic battles in mythology that were 1v1 e.g. Hercules vs. Cerberus. A game that is bogged down in 2 hour turns and managing 20 cities tends to feel, to me, more like work than like epic. Civ IV, for example, suggests the minimum number of playe
Don't take the "3 minute" thing so literally. All we mean is that we're aiming more for Master of Magic combat length rather than Rome Total War combat length, for example. We want you guys to feel in control, and for your tactical decisions to matter. What we don't want is for tactical combat to drag on while both sides "go through the motions".
Indeed, we're trying not to take it literally, we jus
On big battles: You can always just imagine that one troop in the game counts as 1,000 men/creatures... then you're set I read that the target number of cities in Elemental was going to be about 4-5 per player. I also really enjoy Disciples II, which has a limit of 6, yes 6, units per army. I'd be fine with a 10 unit limit, especially if a unit is basically a tile placement, which could have many troops grouped in
In the beta so far, there seems to be several factor that might make battles faster: 1) Raising armies takes a long time. For me to raise an army using mostly the Warfare tree, it took me until about turn 125 to have ONE unit with 10 reasonable troops in it. 2) Don't forget that Warfare has grouping technologies that put more than one troop in a tile. Those same 10 troops were in 3 groups... so, fighting with 3 units is
I can understand the goal of keeping tactical battles short.. In a game of this size hours long battles could really cause many to shy away... I will wait until we get a chance to test the tactical system before I commit any further to we need longer battles... for the record I have no problem with longer battles as I am one who will enjoy that as much as the adventure and civ building aspects of the game..
