King's Bounty for sure, especially if it's a story you're looking for. It isn't so much the pc game equivalent of a page-turner, but it is the most inventive and creative game I've played in a long time. Most of the dialog is either really interesting or extremely funny. It's simply a charmer. Oh . . . and it's great fun to play as well! http://www.kings-bounty.com/eng/ Disciples III is getting closer to laun
My objective here really is to make the game able to play Demigod so that my sons can play with me online. So turning it into a storage unit wouldn't work out there unfortunately.
What's the matter . . . don't they pay you enough scratch at Stardock? ;)

I had an old eMachine with a 2.0Ghz single core, AGP slot, etc.--very basic computer. But, I slapped in a $100 (or less maybe) GeForce 7600GS, discovered PC gaming for the first time, fell in love, and swore off consoles forever! Peeps complain about the cost of PC Gaming, but that setup (with some extra RAM too) ran Call of Duty 2 on high alongside the 360 at launch--not a bad feat! And like I said, it got me into PC gaming for life, so it was definitely worth it.
There's always srtest, though I would like to see a more proactive trend of companies getting their games on there and such. It pretty much works, though is a bit different than what ye seek. www.srtest.com
This works great for desktops, but it can produce strange results on my laptop.

I use a Dell and I love it. It's my second one too and I've never had a problem. Even got a part replacement post-warranty once. You can "build" it exactly to your own specs and make a machine that works well for gaming without even buying into their XPS line. Whatever you buy, just be sure to Google some coupons so you can save a few hundred bucks. :)
Demo's are great ways to test performance on my computer
Actually, demos aren't alwayas a good indicator. For example, the Medieval II: Total War demo ran terribly on my system, so bad that I was disheartened that I wouldn't be able to play it. Then I bit the bullet and bought it anyway and it ran great. All signs point to Star Trek inspired future. One day, we will actually own nothing, just be plugged into the network (Matrix?) and pull down whatever we want from human history instantaneously. Sounds good to me. It's greener too. Why fill your house with boxes and discs, plastic, paper, and cardboard when you don't have to? I've already quit buying DVD's and it was the best decision I've ever made. I now have the largest collection of films and TV on DVD

I am sooooo glad that there are multiple formats for the digital downloading of ANYTHING! Competition drives prices down, creates better services, which are in turn adopted by the industry as a whole, and provides variety and choices--all of which are a boon to consumers. One nice example: Amazon albums being DRM-free and oftentimes cheaper than iTunes albums! Bring it on, I say. Impulse vs. Steam rocks!

Ok everyone, the latest PC Gamer lists the top 49 greatest PC game devs and companies, purposefully leaving one out for the community to decide. I was utterly disappointed not to see Stardock or Frogboy anywhere on the list! So everyone email [email protected] and let them know why Stardock should be #50. Some examples I included were: 1. No DRM/Disc in drive 2. Meaningful expansions w/community input, improved graph
I love Impulse too, but I really can't say I have experienced one single problem with Steam in years. This thread sounds just a meaningless whine from a newbie user, to me.
No, when I installed my physical copy of Dark Messiah Might and Magic, it checked with steam and then downloaded for a couple of hours and seemed to install all over again. When I uninstalled it, it left files all over the place!

I look at Metacritic for the individual review links. I don't pay much attention to the metascore. It's useful to find sites that specialize in the particular game genre, like Tacticular Cancer or Strategy Informer for strategy games. Gamespot and IGN are dead to me. They MUST be getting big payments to lie about the games they review.

Yes, I too recently found EUIII Complete at post-Xmas deep discount for ten bucks. Felt a little naughty for scoring such a bargain from a practically independent company, but I couldn't pass it up. Came with a ginormous map and a bunch of stickers, but no printed manual. :( In fact, that's what's keeping me from starting the game--need to read the manual thorougly, but hate reading on a screen. Getting excited about finally tackling the game thoug

A Final Fantasy style, TBS battle RPG would be sweet if it were a really westernized cast of characters and story. I'm with those who are tired of orcs n' elves, and since they're going there with Elemental (in a sense), it'd be nice to see something wholly original or at least sci-fi. I'm sure there's lots of neat monsters haning around in asteroids and ice moons and whatnot! :D

I really like the idea of keeping the same universe for multiple games. That would be great to have a classic rpg based in the Elemental or GalCiv worlds! And if they do an FPS, do it in those worlds too. New IPs are overrated, multiple games in the same IP is where it's at!

Along with the news that Stardock was expanding was the announcement that they are working on an RPG! So what is it? Anyone care to guess? All I've heard so far is a rumor that they're trying to get the license for Planescape Torment. Does this mean a classic RPG for once, rather than all the next-gen/fps style rpg's that dominate the PC scene these days?

Hooray for Michigan having the best PC game company in the universe! I'm only a couple hours away from SD headquarters. Think they'd give me a tour and let me peek at some Elemental?

I see that Galactic Civilizations II will after all be releasing a complete retail package with DL, DA, and ToA all in one box. It releases on Feb. 10th on Amazon. Does anyone know what will be in the box? A new manual? Any extras? Barebones? Stardock has been curiously quiet about this release. I'm especially confused because I could swear they were dead set against retail release for ToA. I'm also crazy excited, because I've only

I've been seeing ads for Antec's new open face PC case and I'm intrigued. Does anyone use one or have you seen it in person? It sound like a good idea cooling-wise, but I imagine it must be covered up whenever you aren't using it to keep the dust away. Or does that giant fan blast all the dust off on startup? Anyone have any thoughts on it? Is it the future?

What the? I posted an almost identical topic a couple months ago and was practically flamed over it. Now everyone agrees that RTS is too twitch/reflex based. What happened in the last two months? Anyway, I just figure RTS isn't for me. The big industry push to get RTS games on Xbox is indicitive of their potential with the console audience. I switched to PC gaming 100% and never touch consoles anymore, mainly because I don't feel any
Paradox Games come to Impulse I gave up trying to find a copy (retail) of Europa Universalis III: Complete here in Toronto. Amazon.ca doesn't list it either, so I was all set to order from amazon.com but now I may hold off a bit and see if Impulse will carry this title or at least purchase and download EU III + it's IN & NA expansions, if and when they become available.
whats with some of these nonsense about not being able to game on a notebook. No one's talking about notebooks. The question was if gaming on a netbook is possible. To which I'd say: Definitely not.
Woops! I didn't even know what the hell a "netbook" was until this post. Now that I do: NO! You cannot game on them. Not modern games anyway, maybe ancient DOS stuff.<
