Well, I finally got past the first hundred turns or so and the game is finally starting to feel fun! Thank goodness! Global mana rocks and the Ledger screen is a blessing. The game still doesn't seem to have that level of polish that GalCiv2 2.0 did, but it's unfair to compare two games at such different stages of their life cycle. That said, though I'm really beginning to finally enjoy the game a bit, I have to say some things are still unappealing to me.<

Ok, haven't played the game since December. 1.2 launches today and I rush right home to install and see if the game is good yet and . . . right off the bat a bug causes my hero to lose the option to equip when combined with other heroes. Then, playing on easy, a pack of spiders kills all three heroes on . . . turn 4 or 5 maybe? I hadn't even had the chance to create a scout or soldier yet and I'm dead already? On easy? This game continues to be a well

This is why I don't even expect to see females on forums for wargames. My wife won't go to any gas station after dark, because of the chance that sex-starved, crazy rapist/killers may snatch her sometime. It's a sad state of affairs, but there are some places that are dangerous for women to go to, and that goes for the internet as well. Kudos to you, Nesrie, for demanding the same amount of respect that is accorded to men on the net, but what you've effectively done now is o

I've been pushing for adding missions to GalCiv3. I'd love to use the flagship like the Enterprise by dropping into the different homeworlds and picking up missions to perform like: transporting diplomats, transporting scientists to witness anamolies, delivering weapons or medical supplies, etc. All of this with the rewards being capital, influence, technology, weapons/ships, etc. I'd also like to see a lot more mini-cutscenes. For example, during successful in

I'm pretty bummed about E3. Despite a wave of news on console games and action/rpg/shooter PC game news, there's comparatively little for strategy fans. :(

What restaurant is that? I only live a couple hours away and am a big microbrew fan. I'd love to go check it out if it's a quality joint.

I love all of the TOTAL WAR games. Great epic TBS with awesome battles. King's Bounty: The Legend has been mentioned much on this site. RPG with TB battles. VERY fun! Fantasy Wars and Elven Legacy are great TBS fun, mimicking tabletop miniature games. The HOMM series is one of my favorites. I also like the Disciples games, fantasy TBS. II was great and III is due out this fall and is looking cool. I've never played CivIV or Europ

There are a few loud complaints about Steam, but I think that overall they must be satisfying somewhere in the neighborhood of 95% of their customers, which is pretty decent. Just a quick dial-up connection is all you need to get going and it's really no trouble at all. I don't see what all the fuss is about.

I am stoked for the future of digital distribution. There are many competing services out there now and tons of sales! It went from a state of no sales and even higher than retail prices in some instances to constant, deep discounting. I check these sites weekly for sales: GOG , Steam, Gamersgate, Impulse . Rock Paper Shotgun also does a great job posting a weekly list o

I really don't understand modding. Sure, it adds a lot of value to the game, but who has any time for it? And the whole enterprise smacks of "working for free." I mean, just look at Demigod, a game concept that was blatantly taken (stolen?) from a mod. I guess the really creative modders may get jobs in the industry, which could ultimately pay for all of the lost hours spent modding. But for the record, I also wish to have an amazin

Plants vs. Zombies, hands down. PC Gamer just gave it a 90% Editor's Choice. Also, it's the first time PopCap has made a strategy game. When I first saw that video (and then 5 or 6 times more). . . I jus' 'bout wet mahself! [e digicons]:')[/e]

Congrats on getting a laptop to work with games! I did the same about a year ago, and since I play mostly strategy games with modest requirements, it's worked out great for me. In hindsight, I do wish I grabbed a faster proc, mine's only a 1.66Ghz Core 2 Duo. I think it matters much more than I thought it would.

I would say DS9 was the best series if it didn't feel like sacrilige. I would say: 1.TNG 2.DS9 3.VOY 4.ENT 5.TOS I go by simple enjoyment alone. VOY was a fun series for me after the first season or two. ENT could feel like work trying to plow through it. TOS is the only series I've never seen every episode of. It's just too hard to watch in the 21st century. Isn't it funny that after TNG, the theme so

DO NOT pay for bloated anti-virus software! AVG free works great, and if that doesn't catch everything you can run a free scan from Trend Micro's website. Besides that, run Ad-Aware or C Cleaner often, defrag your HD often, and your PC will run like a top. Oh, and try not to look at too much pr0n! Sex causes viruses in cyberspace too.;)

I don't know, I kinda like steamrolling after building a massive empire. It's kind of like pushing the giant rock uphill, but instead of letting it roll back down to start all over, you get to roll it over the peak and watch it smash everything in it's path. Steamrolling is a reward for stellar play (if getting to that point was difficult at all). I think the Total War games make the endgame more interesting by having new factions invade and especially by havin

I really really hope that Elemental will make alternate victory conditions just as exciting as military ones. That's what I loved most about GalCiv2. In fact, I have more fun spreading influence and building alliances than I do fighting with other races. That said, however, fantasy settings are typically very warlike, so I would understand if they emphasized war more, but I think it would be nice to break the mold and make peace between humans and "orcs" or whatever a possib
How is Gamersgate? Their website doesn't exude confidence in their service. Seems "second rate."
Seems really nice to me. The downloader was very simple and pretty fast. No interruptions or anything. I liked it.
Stardock produces continuous, substantive updates that can make old manual wording irrelevant or just plain wrong.
True, but after the intense 6-12 month beta period, I'd imagine that the initial manual won't need too much done to it later on. All they'd need to do is exactly what they did with GalCiv2 Ultimate Edition: re-release an updated manual with the final version.

BTW, I picked up this info on Rock, Paper, Shotgun. Every weekend they scour the net for the weekend's greatest PC game download deals. I highly recommend checking it out: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/04/04/the-rps-bargain-bucket-3/

If you guys like fantasy TBS then now is the perfect time to grab a copy of Fantasy Wars. It's only $7.99 at GamersGate. I've been wanting this forever, but was put off by the $30 price tag. $7.99 is just right! Not sure how long the sale lasts. Could be a weekend thing.

Yes, yes, yes! I'm also in favor of a ginormous manual. Something that remains useful, necessary, and fun to read long after you've mastered the game's controls. If E:WoM is harkening back to the old school days, then please do this for us.
