Its the first week of a luanch, chill the F out.
Just because things are working fine with you and your group of friends doesn't mean it's okay for the rest of the playerbase. Get some perspective. This is not acceptable, even for a first week of launch. Stardock recognizes this. D
Regulus would be way more boring if mines couldn't be used the way they are now. If anything maybe the placement spread should be wider so it's harder to hit somebody with 2-3 mines at once.
I tend to agree. Chris Taylor seems to get gameplay concepts and mechanics mostly right, but is not so good at giving a game substance. Space Siege, Dungeon Siege, now Demigod...all have that issue. Demigod shows promise mainly because it doesn't require a lot of substance to still be fun and worth playing. Action RPGs like the Siege games feel terribly vapid because of the lack of substance.
The problem is that I couldn't recommend for anybody to buy this game as it currently stands. Even at $10 less than most other PC games, it's still not worth the price. Most of the reviews are telling people to wait a few months until things are worked out a bit more, and I can't disagree with that sentiment. It's unfortunate, because I like this game and I want to see it succeed, but the truth is it needs more time, and if that hurts their sales then that's the price that
don't trust any of the statistics, ranking, or tracking...none of it seems to be accurate. i've played a bunch of games and only 3 of them appear to be listed online. it's pretty disappointing really; two things I was definitely hoping for with this game as big pluses over DotA were a good matchmaking system and rating / statistics tracking. at the moment, none of those things are in this game.
Frogboy: The exploit that everybody is talking about is simple, as far as I understand it. People simply buy an idol, summon the minions, then sell the idol. The summoned minions stick around after the idol is sold, so the player can then buy other idols and stock up on minions. Conceivably you could have something like 6-8 of each type of minion, but of course once they die they can't be resummoned unless you have the idol. If
A tip for getting better: don't use potions, and use teleport scrolls as infrequently as possible. Honestly, you don't need them, and if you learn to play without having potions on hand then you'll be better for it in the long run. You'll also have more money to get items you really need. Regen / +stats items > potions.
QoT shouldn't really be going 1 on 1 with anybody.
I think having Snipe with this build is better than Mark of the Betrayer. Without Snipe as Regulus, you really miss out on those opportunistic kills from far away.
The game was working just fine in the Beta PossiblyImpossible. I think its extremely unfair to expect Stardock to anticipate unforseen issues and problems that only come to light when a hundred thousand people slam the servers.
Well, life isn't fair. But honestly, it's not all that unfair to say that both Stardock and GPG should have been prepared and the game needed more time in development and testing. <
Different max number of the summons would just be confusing for new players.. Why not just have the 2 of them be useful?
bingo.
Yeah, turn the game into a crazy unplayable clusterfuck, then it own't resemble any other [good] game on the market! Dumb idea.
No. Why should I give Stardock / GPG more money for making the game the way it ought to have been to justify my buying ONE copy?
Honestly, DotA is not much faster in terms of actual game speed than Demigod. Yes, it's more micro intensive, but Demigod on fast looks like it's on fast forward. DotA doesn't play like that at all.
You can move around while changing form; it doesn't leave you any more open to stuns etc than you would be normally. Also, obviously if you're nuking somebody you stay open for however long it takes to get out your string of attacks, if you're chasing somebody you leave it open longer. The point is, don't stay in open form any longer than you have to in order to cast your spells.
I disagree about the speed. Although normal speed does at times feel slow, fast is WAY too fast. I had a game today where the setting was on fast and with even a little bit of lag things were moving too quickly to even respond to them. A challenge is one thing, but the game can move too fast for micro and decision making to be possible, and I think that's what tends to happen with the current fast setting. As for maps, I agree. The maps look<
Sorry but all that would result in is publishers being sent copies much later so that they could be sure there isn't some gotcha that crops up in the first week. That already happens bad enough. Look at Empire Total War and Dawn of War 2. When did their reviews come out? Quite a bit later. Why? To give the devs time to put out patches. You think Stardock and GPG are partying right now? Fuck, there have been Stardo
Unfortunately it seems like "Space Siege" (a boring dud with very little depth or content) may have been a better indicator of what to expect with Demigod than Supreme Commander or Dungeon Siege. Don't get me wrong - Demigod is a LOT better than Space Siege. But I think people had higher expectations for Demigod than they ought to have considering the developer.
You should be able to choose whether players are replaced by AI or not. Bots should also never be in any ranked or competitive type game - I'm looking at you Pantheon.
The game isnt broken because you can actually play it. Many people are successfully playing it. You cant call it broken.
Anybody claiming that "balance problems" are a main issue with the game is way off base. There are much bigger problems. The balance for Demigod is really quite good right now, all things considered, especially for a quasi-RTS. Most RTS come out of the gate with some kind of glaringly imbalance strategy, and most RPGs / MMOs come with some kind of glitch or skill that can be abused. I've yet to see either in Demigod. Stun locking and snare
oh geeze, you only were able to play 20 games in a few days? lord have mercy, what a travesty. go outside. it's nice this time of year.
If you want people to get in touch with you I'd suggest a more memorable and easy to type AIM screenname.
Change forms often. Only go into open form (offensive form) when you are going to use ground spikes, uproot, or spike wave, and you have the mana to do so. Once you've cast one or more of these spells, immediately go back to closed form. Remember that in closed form you have increased regen and armor, and that you have instant access to the bramble shield ability, which will often save your life (it doesn't matter what build you're playing as Q
