At first, thanx Stardock for great game! After some ten hours of playing, its time to share few thoughts... Performance The game gets surprisingly sluggish (I mean, compared to the effort that was put into optimization) early on - I play medium/large maps (8 factions) and in the mid-game, it *sometimes* lacks noticeably (i7 notebook, Nvidia graphics, Win 7 64x). I have noticed that large objects like monsters make lag worse - in my
Pioneers cost gold instead of population
Oh no, tell me this isnt true! Or it is just temporary change, until Brad can adjust AI to it... Having to decide, whether I will let my city grow or attempt to expande is exactly the great strategic choice I enjoy, as did Brad in hist pre-beta video! PLEASE keep it! Or at least make it so that SETTLE button costs 30 pop... Gold cost is just

As of commanders (governors), I see three lines of abilities for them: - empire wide effects (unrest reduction, mana or food production etc.) - town they are in effects (further unrest reduction, production + growth boost etc.) - units effects - I am not sure about whether they ought to give any bonuses related to their presence in tactical battles (more suitable to warriors and defenders?), I tend to think of them more as indir

Hm, but it seems LH Beta wont make it out this week...? I am looking forward to it pretty much as well! Bit jealous [e digicons]:'([/e] I guess when you broke through the barrier, Stardock should respond...by opening the beta for the rest of us as well [e digicons][/e]

Legandary heroes go in the right direction. The biggest problem I had with FE so far, apart from things like bugged diplomacy system, was the boring late game. This was mainly because once the initial wilds were cleared, you ultimately ended up fighting "other colored humans". Factions feel very generic, + 0.1% here or there is no real difference. And to make "other colored humans" wars interesting, you are aiming at Civilization kind of game... which FE is n

Sounds great, frogboy! Has the AI ability to break pacts and tributes next round been fixed as well? This is most serious bug of current diplomacy system... Or at least make it cost them hefty sum of gold or influence (LH: fame) [e digicons];)[/e]

Still no love for diplomacy? :/ The closer the update is, the stronger feeling I have that 30 pop cost for building the pioneer will kill outposts early game... we shall see.

The more I think it over, the more I think that it should be the Settle button having population cost (Outpost respectively). In order not to cripple AI, which is loosing their pioneer armies in the wilds frequently.

1. Diplomacy - more intrigue, more options, more logic. 2. City spam - few high-level cities vs lots of mediocre towns balance. Make going for few high level cities viable strategy. 3. More units faction-based traits and options. 4. Tactical combat - more variety, mainly when fighting high level cities. I know we probably wont see sieges, but what about tactical maps for high end cities containing walls with few breaches, with (1) the units behind the wall get som

Kind of agree that it should be the SETTLE button, not the pioneer itself that has increased (population) cost. In order to not hurt the outpost mechanics and make it a viable option. As mentioned before, goind with less cities should have much more tangible benefits. Apart from substantially higher growth, maybe some production/food bonuses as well? Maybe different lines of level upgrades, depending on number of cities player has? Like unique high level building that e

My 2 points: - Make alliances available earlier and learn the AI to use them sensibly. Long live pacts and global wars aka GalCiv II! - Give trade/research treaties some cons as well - diplomatic penalties with civilizations your trade partner is hostile with. Aka: you are trading with my enemy? Relations penalty - 4 etc. Possibility to trade cities and units sounds sensible as well... finally an opportunity to really help friend in war? :)

This mechanism can still not replace full-scale alliance. By the time he would pay other sov to declare war on me (1) I am usually at war with him already, (2) considering I have at least mediocre power rating, it would require him to pay lump sum of money, which is okay. Alliance, on the other way, could be cheaper to get and would act preventinely. P.S.: I have never seen AI doing so anyway, or at least good old "Other power has paid as to destroy you..." notice from GalCiv was not

I see. But i still think that making alliances (not the victory condition) earlier would be a great thing though. It would create delicate situations (aka GalCiv II) and also help the AI - weaker kingdoms/empires could have powerfull allies, making it even more interesting for player to decide, whether to sack them... Pacts could be created, waging wars along different fronts with differents allies. Few other ideas: https://for

In my opinion, diplomacy is the weakest part of the game so far. By postponing alliances to the very late game, we are missing the opportunity to create pacts early, the same goes for weak civs paying powerfull allies (and making it more difficult for player to sack them). Trade etc. treaties are a single sided must, without any cons except money cost - e.g. trading with enemy of civ A could worsen relationship with civ A? Something like "You are trading with my enemy!" penalty. Tha

Mkay, did not registered about that victory conditions. But arent we sacrifying big and funny part of the game, by getting alliances soo late?
