My sovereign supposedly knows a bunch of spells but can't use them in tactical combat either. Overall I'd say the game is looking better but is still kind of a mess. Definitely looking forward to future builds.

I'm a big fan of Civ and loved MOM and had high hopes for Elemental but at this point I'm pretty sure I threw away yet another $50. I hope Stardock proves me wrong but there's little of interest in the game for me as of yet, regardless of what kind of tricks they pull out of their hat. Gary
Mass Effect 2 is fun just like Jade Empire was fun, but I wouldn't call either of them a real RPG. More significantly, Jade Empire stood alone and I personally never compared it to Bioware's previous games and didn't think less of it just because it wasn't an RPG. Mass Effect 2 though, is significantly different than the first ME, and as such, deserves derision. Why did Bioware throw out the awesome game play of the original just to make it a proper shooter? All that was unique about
Sorry if I missed a post (happens when you're at work all day!) but was wondering if Beta 3 was going to be available tonight. Anyone know? Thanks, Gary
I was playing my first game with 2B and after about 30 minutes Elemental quit to the desktop. Here's the debug.err file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8029521/Element%2006-26-2010/debug.err Here's my DxDiag file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8029521/Element%2006-26-2010/DxDiag.txt Gary
How in the world will they finish/polish this thing in two weeks? I can't see that happening. But maybe the Beta build is really far behind the internal builds Stardock is working on? Maybe we're a couple of months behind what they are testing?
The iPad is a great device. I bought mine mostly so I could access the Internet when I'm not at home where it's plentiful. But I also bought the keyboard dock and use it for light typing, blogging, stuff like that. A PC or laptop replacement? No. A great albeit expensive device that is fantastic for consuming the web and doing light work? Absolutely.
I guess this is similar to the way the original Master of Magic worked (I played it recently again and got my butt kicked early on) but if I pick easy difficulty it shouldn't be so tough. I would personally prefer that this game also be kind to those who don't invest all of their time into it. I spent my $50 but I mostly play console games so I am probably not the person you want to beat the crap out of.
i think there is a number showing it somewhere
Main characters like Sovereign get an icon on the left that darkens when there are no more movement points but I've yet to find any indication for common units.
I have seen very few monsters that aren't MUCH stronger than any unit I can create. And my sovereign is the weakest of them all. I chose easy difficulty and it didn't matter: I made little progress because almost any encounter was too much for my units. And I'm not talking about a combat rating of 83. I mean those that have combat ratings just barely better than my own units.
Or at the very minimum have a number next to each unit indicating how much movement it has left. As it stands it's all guesswork. And I can swear that sometimes my units don't get a single movement point even though I've pressed ENTER.
I just read that tab is supposed to take you to the next unit. But I still don't know whether that unit has movement left or not. Is there anyway to determine this?
Regardless of whether I am zoomed in or out, scrolling does appear to move much too slowly. I'm someone who does not like fast scrolling, so I'm not asking for hyper sensitive scrolling, just something that feels a bit more comfortable (and useful).
While I am no longer getting the DX error, the game (Beta 2-A) did quit to the desktop after I used the Windows key to minimize it and then went back to the game. Here is the debug error that was generated: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8029521/debug.err Gary
I am not currently seeing this problem in Beta 2-A.
I have to say this looks considerably better. It feels more like a game!
It's downloading for me too. Thanks, Gary
Did you have them set to autoexplore?
No, the sovereign was not set to auto-explore. And actually, I did set another NPC to auto-explore and they never moved a muscle... I'll double check just to make sure I don't have them backwards or something, but if auto-explore means to always move in the same circular pattern, it's pretty broken.
Even if I right-click, if the NPC I am moving has movement left in their turn, they will act erratically, IOW, then will move even though I told them to stop on a particular sqaure.
Mouse is the best way to move right now but I know there are a lot of people who prefer using the keyboard.
#1 is definitely an issue. Scrolling with the mouse takes absolutely forever. Now mind you, I hate fast scrolling too, but I want something in the middle.
I just discovered that if you enable Auto Turn in the game's preferences you don't have to end the turn at all. You can take one action after another and never have to pay attention to the state of the NPCs or towns. This doesn't fix the problem though, really, as you still need feedback from the game but it gives none.
The little NPC and city icons turn dark when they can't move anymore. That's the only indication I could find. But I agree that that just doesn't spell it out quite clearly enough, and while I admit that Civilization's continual reminder of events seemed tiring, I think it's necessary for a couple of reasons: Give the player a sense of progress -- When the game pops up modal messages, you realize something has happened, and that might be an accomplishment of some sort.
Yes, you are right: DX Error. Thanks, Gary
This appears to only happen to the sovereign (haven't seen it with recruits as of yet) and only if there is movement left in the turn. Makes it impossible to get him to stop on a particular square.
