i was hoping this game would turn out to be something as unusual as a new strategy game that didn't suck. I was hoping for smart game design but i got a sandbox. Perhaps it's an entertaining sandbox i wouldn't know because i don't like sandbox games.
You know, when I first saw Beta 2 I thought the same thing as you. I wanted Civ with Magic, not a sandbox. But now that Elemental is "done", I'm quite happy with the design.
Particle effect issues that pop-up after an alt-tab should be fixed after the next patch. If you're never getting particles and you haven't alt-tabbed out of the game, please provide us with your debug.err (see this thread for details on where to find it and how to post it: https://forums.elementalgame.com/391297). With your help I'll do my best to get it fixed as soon as possible!
Next patch being the just release 1.06?

I'm as big a critic as the next at Elemental's failings, but I think it's a fun game and I personally find tactical battles a real joy. They are simple but exciting, and I often find them challenging. I'm the kind of player who will never understand every system in a strategy game perfectly, so maybe I'm who Normal difficulty was made for. In other words, I'm not one of those hard core strategy gamers that wants the game to be super hard and much more complex. So change the game as yo
Sadly all that you say is true. I like Elemental. A lot. But it is such an unfinished and incomplete game in so many ways. Some of the systems in the game would really have to be gutted and reworked and in the end Elemental will be a different game IF it actually was completed. Will that finished game be fun? And then I think about the totally inadequate Herigamenon (or whatever it's called!), the pitiful manual (this is a stategy game Stardock!!!), and the campaign that paints its st
You can hire multiple champions early in the game, when you have little money for example, and you really have to stick them in cities and keep them away from fights. It does take far too big of an investment to get them properly equipped for battle. And champions should definitely be leaders of armies, not just farmers that reside in towns or someone who adds 1 gildar per turn. They need to be special and should be equipped and skilled based on their level and cost. Good orig
Stardock said they began shipping the limited edition boxed copies of Elemental on Tuesday the 24th. They shipped via Priority Mail, which can be super fast depending on where it's coming from. I haven't received my copy yet. Has anyone? Maybe today? Hopefully!
Brad made mention of a crash fix in a recent post, so I assume that's it. I didn't grab 1.05 until Wednesday so I only updated once (presumably to .16).
I don't think we'll see a confirmation. Stardock doesn't appear to focus on delivering boxed goods and they don't provide a way to get the status of an order and their customer service department isn't willing to give order information either. The response I received from someone just told me they ship via Priority Mail and that was it.
As someone who loved Master of Magic but found it too unforgiving, I have to say that Elemental is more fun, at least for where I'm at now as a gamer who is close to 50 years old. Like you I agree it has serious issues but the game is enjoyable, deep, and should provide plenty to do for years to come.
Recruit a hero of the opposite sex to your Sov, then check the actions tab of said hero, you should see a wedding ring graphic to click on.
Thank you -- as I get more into the game I may or may not have ever found that! I think part of the "problem" with Elemental is it really is a grand, old school strategy game. It has a ton of options, no decent documentation, and it takes a real investment to get the most out of
That is correct glucero. You can also get heros the old fashion way; have children. Each child you have will mature into a hero at the age of 18. Once they are of age, you can arrange them to be married to an offspring of another soverign. Once they are married, your female children are turned over to the husbands family, and your son's wife becomes a part of your empire. When your married children then procreate there is a % chance
So are ALL recruitable characters heros? If you create them yourself they are just a minion but if you find them wandering about then they are a hero?
It would be nice to have a screen that would show you the bonus's and what the cause is for them. Or is there already a screen for that?
I searched the forums and can't find out anything on this. When a character offers to join me for 37 gildar and his card says he will add a bonus to farming, do I have to park him in a city to take advantage of this? Thanks
Is Elemental fun? Yes. And I'm not talking about 1.05, which came out too late last night for me to play. I'll get to that tonight. But 1.01 was already a lot of fun. Is Elemental a buggy mess? Inaccessible to more casual players? A niche product that will require patience from dedicated gamers? Absolutely. I knew a month ago that there was no way it would truly be ready this month, but the realities of PC game sales is such that developers don't finish them before letting them
We didn't download Day 0? Well, that would seem to explain a lot of why the game seems so similar to the last Beta version. I guess I look forward to the next update and starting the campaign over again!
I guess it occured in 1.0 but it seems worse in 1.01. I had never noticed it going back and forth before, and as I mentioned, it doesn't matter whether you are zoomed in or out, so even if you can see everyone, it still pans the camera.
Had I not participated in the Beta I think I would have been totally lost too. Not that I played the Beta a ton, as it was even worse than the final game (not that the final game is bad, but as I've mentioned before, it is far from accessible). Elemental needs a good tutorial, a more complete manual, and more complete in-game help.
Would love to see a Rest or Camp command (not unlike Civ Rev), or a healing kit that can be equipped on a unit (so I can create a Healer or Medic unit).
Regardless of the zoom level of the camera (IOW, it can be zoomed ALL OF THE WAY OUT!), during combat if I use a ranged unit to attack an enemy, the camera will always shift towards the unit and then follow the arrow to the enemy. This is very distracting and is definitely a problem in my opinion. This was not a problem in V1.0 but is in V1.01.
Saying we should be adventurous is a NON-ANSWER! Yes, manual writing is a lost art. It's not like the old days when Microprose released a great manual. But Elemental COULD have a great manual. Nowadays developers rely too much on fans to create wikis and FAQs when they need to document this stuff themselves.
Elemental's campaign paints broad strokes. It's not a long, detailed story that winds its way through hour after hour of nail biting drama. As such it's a great introduction to the game. Not so much a tutorial really, although it does hold your hand a bit and does a great job of slowly introducing new concepts. And it's fun. It provides a modest challenge and rewards you for putting together armies. It's not hard, really, but it's not what I would call a total breeze either. I
