Impulse tells me there's a new version even though I have 1.09N, but I get the same errors as you guys to, so it doesn't install.

#1 problem in my game tonight is I select an available building to build, click Build, and nothing happens. Over and over and over again...
Elemental is getting better, that is clear. 1.09N feels *more* like a game now, and is actually sometimes fun! What I would love to see happen though is the fit and finish improve. Bugs or design decisions from Version 1.0 are still present. Here is a partial list that are things that bug me: - Zoom out to the paper map, press Escape to to to the menu, then return to the game and you are no longer seeing the paper map. It's the standard map sans details. You hav
I updated to 1.09N and started my first game. As I walked through the wizard to start the game, it took much too long to cycle through each page. Once I got through the wizard, as it loaded my game, it took me to the desktop, showed a DX Error, and then crashed. This is in Windows 7 64-bit. Previous versions of Elemental have ran much better and more reliably. The only difference is that I have more recent Nvidia drivers. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8029521/Elemental%2011-19-20
It's been a while since I tried Elemental but with 1.09B I'm afraid I am not having much luck. I ran into two problems right off. Note that this was with a new game and Windows had been recently booted and the game had just been started: 1) Janusk or whatever his name is became stuck in an area where some goodies were found. It appears the map that was generated placed the goodies in a somewhat inaccessible area. I got him in there but couldn't get him out. I tried auto-explore, right
Civ V but once Fallout New Vegas comes out, that's all I'll play regardless of whether Elemental 1.1 releases or not.
While I'm desperately trying to get a refund and Stardock is having nothing to do with that despite the fact that Mr. Wardell himself said the game is in such shape that they are refunding people's money when requested to do so. I like the potential of Elemental, and it can be fun, but it's too broken/unfinished/unrealized at the moment. Maybe a year from now?
I even hate it remembering units I created the last time I used that same nation. I like building all units every game, maybe that sounds dumb but I think that its part of the fun. I wish there where more clothing options. My wraith female soldiers have no pants or shoes. But that is an other issue.
Agreed. It should either forget about user created troops or let me choose to turn them on/off.</p
I've recently asked for a refund and this is one of the things driving me away from Elemental. In theory Elemental is a great game but I'm tired of weekly patches that don't do enough to make it the game I've paid for.
I generally like tactical battles but there are a few things I'd like to see corrected: 1) HP is deducted in advance of actual attacks, and the same goes for squad members who disappear in advance of the attack. I don't mind a unit taking a wide sweeping strike with their sword, meaning they are about to kill a foe, but I don't want to know how much damage was done until AFTER the attack. 2) Can't we highlight attacking units? It's often difficult to know what an enemy unit is
Playing Elemental V1.07 on Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Game has been going for a LOOONNNGGG time, so turns tend to take several seconds to complete. Elemental appeared to lock up so I switched to desktop (after waiting for about a minute) and got Out of Memory error followed by game stopping. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8029521/Elemental%2009-05-2010/debug.err http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8029521/Elemental1_07-2010-09-05T12-38-56-308.zip
As I research combat, every few levels I unlock a "new" unit and it's almost always the Archer. I just completed researching Sieges and it introduced Archers yet again. V1.07

My sovereign was garrisoned in a city with his army. He bought some healing items. I ended the turn. We were attacked. We were fighting and my sovereign had just eaten a leg of pork or whatever it is and when I went to end the

Kevin Van Ord is a crap shoot of a reviewer though. He blasted Alpha Protocol, a game that was super fun to play but definitely had its issues. And yet he loved Mafia II, a game that has gotten scores all over the board. Not saying he isn't a good reviewer but like so many in the business a bit arbitrary. I have been critical of Elemental myself and still don't see how you could possibly give it a 4.0. That's just ridiculous.
I find it very easy to get overwhelmed by this game, it is very complex and for me I find the game too hard to win even on the easiest level. In my 1st game some of the ai has MUCH more powerful and numerous armies then me (and why do they get brigades or whatever they call them and I don't?) and super powerful random monsters abound. In the future I would like to see an easier level to play (maybe a tutorial level?) so us newbies can learn t
so the criticism falls into 2 catagories: 2. The game simply isn't interesting enough. Mechanics are silly, not deep enough, magic is bland etc etc: THIS is where I hope the focus will be falling.
I think the game is interesting but you are asking about "interesting enough" -- Maybe not. If things were more balanced, and I don't know HOW to balance it, then it all might gel so much better. But right now tech research
EVERY competent software developer knows that the programmer must never be the one deciding whether the program is done. Yet, my love of Elemental broke my self discipline and I began coding on the game itself in vast amounts and lost any sense of objectivity on where the game's state was. I normally only program the AI on our games so I can keep a level of distance from the game itself to determine whether it's "Ready". On Elemental, I w
How about the bug where you click on a city, click the button to build, and after you select a structure to build and then click the button to build it, the structure's icon doesn't go away? Or sometimes the item doesn't build at all! Sometimes I click Build over and over again from that build UI and nothing happens.
I agree with Kemsley that Elemental is not finished. Stardock should have assessed its state, looked at how balanced it was, where the campaign was, etc., and waited. But they had a window to release it in and in order to not miss out on sales in this time spot, they released it. That's the way I see it anyhow. Had they waited a few months, released it in March or whenever the next opportunity is, they may very well have released something far better than any of their previous games.
While I think Elemental's sandbox mode can offer some flawed fun, the Campaign is another story altogether. The story it tells is weak, the functional aspects of its quests and story progression are clumsy, and the entire thing is too short. In other words, it's throwaway. The story of the campaign is told in broad strokes. Pop-up messages describe what happens, or maybe a dialogue "choice" is offered but there is only ever one choice offered. But regardless, the conversations are bri
I had too many units in cities and I was losing gold every turn (this was in the campaign). The city screens give you little information about this really -- the stats are so poor right now in Elemental (or are hidden somewhere). Anyway, I went to each city, dismissed armies, and before I knew it, I had tons of gold again. Not saying this is your problem, but that was mine. Last thing: Outside of running out of cash, there was no other side effect that I could see. Peo
Having spent the last week+ playing Elemental, from Version 1.0 to 1.06, I'm glad to see that Stardock doesn't depend on game sales to survive. My feeling is Elemental will get blasted in reviews and sales will be relatively low. Mostly fans of other Stardock games or people like me who used to love and play strategy games (I'm just getting back into it, having been on consoles for the last several years -- it's good to be back!!!) will buy it. And I actually might have to abandon the
I haven't asked for a refund but in other support requests most of the time I get responses and sometimes they never respond at all...and in an online age it's amazing that the Stardock web site doesn't give you things like delivery tracking!
Here's a hypothetical here: does working a 12 hour day just to get a beta out so the community can test it not immediately qualify for the suggestion that they are very hard working and dedicated?
Having worked in non-game software development for 20 years, there are many times when you put in as many hours as is necessary, and what's amazing is sometimes that hard work really pays off and you release something really great, but sometimes it
