I hope I am being redundant here, but I feel a bit worried whenever people say to the devs "Look at game X". I would STRONGLY prefer to have EWOM be as unique as possible as opposed to a derivative of some existing game.

Saw it again with my father over the weekend, and I'm still impressed. There are some minor nits, but these big plot holes people claim top see really do fall apart when you look more closely...... and it does become obvious that although the aliens may not have a biological/social worker caste per se, Joe Prawn is more than a bit less intelligent than the average human. Whether that's the result of the preasance or absence of something in Earth's environment (maybe the cat food isn't so much

Banned for thinking that someone can not like popcorn. You need to listen to some Popcorn Chain.
Crap, and I just got rid of my 2-year-old laptop! Well, granted it technically didn't have a CPU anymore, but still.....
Do we need miniguns to deal with ants?
No, but we often do need them to deal with bears..... plus, the species they met might not be as helplessly primitive as we are..... no garuntee that the bad guys wouldn't be as advanced as they were, or perhaps more so.
Banned for starting a popcorn chain. (Doesn't "popcorn chain" sound like a great rapper name?)
Banned for not listening.
As I understood it, most of the aliens were actually quite stupid, more like worker drones not capable of anything sophisticated.
Although that statement was in the movie, I don't know if there was any actual science behind it or if the human powers invented it to legitimize their activities.... considering CJ's obvious initiative and technical skill, I would probably say the latter.
The weapon effects were cool, of course... its just that what could be a

You get a hugely overclocked but broken computer that will not turn on. I wish this keyboard was bigger.
Baned for bannng time.
Fascenating.... doesn't say much about my big issue of Blender compatibility, but the near-complete modding freedom is veeerryyyy happy news!
Maybe b/c there are gates in it? And they're black? And it looks Mordory?[e digicons]:P[/e]

Coooooolll os ! I don't have the time or energy to do one of my screenie analyses right now, but several things spring immediately to mind: There appear to be ogres wandering around inside the city. What are they, and what are they doing there? Looks like the evil terrein is still more or less the same..... doesn't look so much volcanic now as it just looks dead .
That said I prefer infinite slightly unpredictable research. I'd like to give a command of "better infantry wielded ranged weapons" and get surprised with either a better bow (longbow) or a whole new path such as the crossbow.
OverRNGing always leaves a baaaaaaaddddd taste in my mouth.... my general rule of thumb is that the chance of something random taking place should be less than 10%.
I had the impression that something had gone wrong with the ship, and thus they couldn't get out, exhausted supplies, and started to die. But perhaps I misheard.
Yes, they had some sort of computer-based technical problem that shut down pretty much everything onboard. I think that it happened after they arrived here, for no real reason except for the fact that the ship seems unable to move until the problem is remedied, but it could easily have been en route.
Banned for being ill.
I for one am pretty strongly against gunpoweder, steam, or other IR techs appearing in the game, b/c 1) magic & science generally don't play all that well together, and 2) it's been done sooooooooo many times before this that it has become rather tiresome. It's not at all unrealistic: gunpowder was only invented once in human history, and the world of Elemental obviously does not follow our physical laws.
I really like this idea! As long as this was done well (and knowing SD I'm willing to bet that it would be), it would really help close the player-AI gap, and add an actual reason not to exploit poor ArIIa at every opportunity.
also i would think that clean glazier water would be a good resource to have, or perhaps like most other games this is a given, i hope not
I agree. Water should definitely be a commodity..... soooo many options. I imagine that a channeler could magically purify water w/ minimal effort, but I'd like it better with more complexity & depth.
Why did the aliens come to Earth in the first place? Or did I miss something?
I can only assume that they were colonists. If they didn't have FTL sensing capabilities, they wouldn't even have known Earth had sentient life until they got within 100 or so light-years..... But this brings up another consideration: did no-one wonder why these aliens brought so much military technology with them? I mean, some weaponry for self-defense would be reasonable considering that
Banned for Puritanism.
I agree with Martok's point, but it could also be dangerously easy to make the channeler too powerful: if that happened, the inherant drawbacks of the channeler being in only one place at a time & crucial to survival wouldn't be sufficint to keep the channeler off the battlefield and back in town researching spells or doing the other fun things the game has to offer.
