For the record, I've not gotten any effect to stay when exported to HKX, except texture and UV maps for that texture. That is in 3d max, of course. I've not even gotten animations to work - I fear they need a separate animation file that is somehow linked up through bones. Of course for city tiles you can just do animations in the tile editor, but for weapons for example, I don't think we can do animations at the moment.

Actually I'm going to start on some swords first tomorrow. It's the department I feel they fall really short on - every single sword looks almost exactly the same. I don't know if it's just me, but if it's fantasy, IMHO, you can live a little with the design. Not as much as WOW or Allods Online, but still a lot.

I really, really need a picture. Especially of "important" items like that. I've never read Dragonlance, so right now I'm thinking of something out of WOW from what you described. I don't think I can make something change texture, but I might be able to make something move. I'll test it.

I believe that even if you set all the existing resources to rarity 0, you will STILL spawn resources close to your home base when you start playing. Only one way to find out, of course. Make a copy of CoreWorldResources.xml and set all the resources to rarity 0,put file in mod folder, then load up your map.
