Its DOTA. It has a negative connotation to all but those that play it. Its nearly impossible to bring in tons of new sales from people who have not played it.
You severely underestimate the power of rewards for good behavior and preordering. If Valve offers TF2 hats for buying DOTA, that's like 20K sales right there from people who might not even boot up the game (see Worms Reloaded). In game skins for being
Likewise for a new playing going into DotA - they'll have LoL, HoN, and for what it's worth, Demigod.
LOL@Demigod even being considered. It's DotA, LoL, and HoN. Valve will succeed 100%. At least in destroying HoN. LoL will survive on the basis that its gameplay is slightly different, but more importantly, it's F2P. The original DotA will probably not survive, seeing as how its current maintainer is

Don't bother. The mechanics are terrible and the game is incredibly unoptimized. They designed the whole game around the MMO aspect and failed. The single player is tacked on. Seriously, Sim City 1 would be better than this pile. Not even worth the download time if it was free.
OMG, Activision has ruined so many games I can't even count them all! And yes, several recently. They pushed Cryptic to put out both Champions Online and Star Trek Online and both were no where near ready for Gold. I'll chip in for a couple dozen eggs Dethadder!
Atari was the publisher for those MMOs. And it's mostly Cryptic's fault. Their goal is to push our quick cheap games.

It's going to be just as bad as Champions Online and STO. Conan did "player skill" combat, but you stopped noticing after a while and it does nothing for the rest of the game. Only two MMOs worth looking out for: SWTOR: It will be very cookie cutter, but will be polished and in the Star Wars universe. GW2: True evolution in the MMO genre. Dynamic events with in world consequences, hub areas DESIGNED to be social with plenty of mini games and RP opportunities, a

Civ5 is more strategic than previus Civilizations - there was nothing strategic about combat in them - in Civ1-4 you just sent your superstack against enemys superstack. Civ5 is also first Civ where you have reasonable resourced management. 3. WTF are you talking about?<br
But from what I have seen so far Civilization has had high marks with problems and the reviews of Elemental (while true) were quite brutal.
Both games have technical errors that affected a minority of users (Elemental's white screen, Civ 5 crashes). I actually could play both games without any problems. The problem is, despite having no technical problems with Elemental, I had no fun. The game was a mess of ideas t

Got some good time in with the game last night. Went for a quick cultural victory with Japan on a small 6 player map (victory through anime?). This game is very much Civilization. The UI is much improved and streamlined, though I do miss having all the unit actions visible at once. Combat is much better. Cultural victory is more fun to strive for, as you get to unlock social policies, which give you mini-rewards before the mega-reward of the Utopia project. And of course, the

The players actually able to play the game are playing it and not on forums. 12,000+ playing right now ( http://store.steampowered.com/stats/ ), despite it being a workday. I only got half an hour this morning before I had to head to work. The 1GB "0 day patch" is only for people who have the deluxe edition, and is the deluxe edition content.

It's a fun game in the way that LEGOs are fun. The current pieces are fun enough for maybe 5-8 hours, or more if you play multiplayer and want to construct monuments. But after that, you'll want new "pieces" for the game to stay fun. This game has a lot of potential. As the creator adds more resources, more recipes, and more toys (such as minecart+track), the game will just get better and better. It's the closest thing in years that simulates the joy I would get in creating am

False dilemma is also not about pointing out two choices, when there is more than one. It's about inferring that one is true if the other is false, when there is more than one choic

Perhaps Bethesda is "testing the waters" of GOO to perhaps use it in future games like TES V instead of Steamworks. If that's the case then I'm all for the gimped version of Oblivion being on Impulse.
Heh, no publisher would want to use GOO for their AAA title. Everyone is moving awa

A lot of people seem to be stuck in 1995. Counterstrike was a mod. Garry's mod was obviously a mod. Now? They're their own games. DotA was a mod for War3, and it started an entire genre of games (League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth). SCII maps are not just maps. They can be entirely new games, as the Metal Slug remake in the SCII beta demonstrated. It'll be a self regulating market. You don't think this map/game type is worth your money? You are entirely free to recre

You could've Borderlands and Bioshock 2 4packs on release on Steam, meaning the total would be $33 for each person. And yes, Bioshock 2 included Bioshock 1 on top of that if you preordered. Amazon does a similar thing by offering gift certificate on new releases to get around restrictions.
