So I'm messing around in pref.ini, trying to get the game looking as nice as possible, but I realized I have no idea what many of these options even do. Hell, sometimes there's two of the exact same option, set by default to different values (AmbientLight, for instance, appears a second time just a couple lines down set at zero). I've got a nice PC I built, I want the game to look better. For example, the shadows on the characters are blocky and pixellated,

I don't agree with all of his specifics (the one-unit-killed thing is a bad idea imo, for instance), but the OP has the right idea, generally. Tactical combat is far and away my least favorite part of the game. If it wasn't for the fact that I can usually do better by playing it out than auto for the tough battles, I'd never fight a battle as it stands. Mind you, it is quite a bit better than in original Elemental. They're putting a lot of

Fallen Enchantress isn't even in my Impulse library. It's in its own folder it made when I downloaded the beta. All that's there is my old WoM install. So even if I download the patch separately, how would I automatically get the hotfix? Nope, not Impulse/Gamestop. Go to stardock.com a

The last time I checked, Brad hasn't directly replied to the issue rather than to comment on being unaware of the tooltips and to state that challenging has 'better' AI than Normal and with no bonuses... SNIP Now regardless of the challenging tooltip being incorrect or not (it wasn't fixed in the patch so..?), the crippled AI doesn't reach its proper level of intel

Nice. I'll give it a try in a bit. What about the bug where all my (automated) caravans show up on the unit list to the left of the screen, making it almost unusable? They only way to fix it I found was to run a turn, save, then exit the game completely and come back.

Ugh, I don't get people who don't use click-and-drag. It's far more precise and responsive. (Though I'd argue it should be tied to a different mouse button like it is in most games. Using the same button to select units and scroll is a bit off.) Wherever my pointer is, I can instantly move the map, and move it very precisely, rather than needing to suddenly jerk my mouse to the left and hold it there, then back to the right when i overshot, etc.
@thebigJ_A Its a tradeoff. Would you accept 30 seconds between turns to get a much better AI? There are two things that makes the AI "better". Cheating (bonuses) and more CPU time. Normal should in my opinion be where there are no bonuses and a reasonable amount of CPU time. On hard more CPU time an a touch of bonuses to help the AI. I like the CIV IV way where the AI gets an extra unit to start with on higher levels. The
Well just play "normal". AI needs to cheating to be somehow competive in complex games. ITs the sad truth. AI in a more complex game will always suck because player "exploit" stuff to his best while AI can't do it. Its just too complex. So I WANT the AI cheating in harder difficult levels and making more options for this make things more complicated for common user.
Why would I want to p

Playing with Brad's Friday hotfix thingie (I didn't play enough before that to notice whether this happened or not without it). Every so often, after one of the frequent crashes, when I load the game back up, every single one of my automated caravans will appear in the unit outliner on the left side of the screen as if they were armies. With a bigger empire, there's like ten of them, taking up half the screen and making the outliner useless. Reloading won&#3

The descriptions of the difficulty levels say that, on harder difficulty, you get an enemy AI which is harder, as well as one that gets various buffs in things like combat. I would very, very much like to see these two things separated. I hate playing against a computer opponent when I know it's "cheating". That is to say, when I know that his soldiers actually do 137% more damage than mine, and he makes twice the money i do from the same source, or whatever it is.&

"Change the rotation permanently"? If by that you mean "make it so it doesn't snap back when I move the camera", then just check the box in the options.

I was designing some new units, when i clicked on one of those blue snake things by mistake (Ophidians). I'd recently gained the option of recruiting them after my influence spread over one of their lairs. (BTW, there's no icon on the 3D map for the lair, it's just empty terrain.) It brought me to the page where you add equipment and such, and it let me add things to the snake as if it were a person. Most (but not all!) of the armor and items didn't work

Turning the grid on seems to fix it, and occasionally it'll flash the color it's supposed to be if I swing the camera around. I didn't change anything, I never had the grid on when I started the game, and it was fine then. Edit: It's got something to do with antialiasing. When I turned it off, the problem went away. When I tried turning it back on, I found something strange. I tried setting it to 2X (my preferred setting in all games) and found it just w
a 10-20 FPS increase is not a fix? I think your pushing it now. I don't know what your going through honestly, because I don't experience any slowdown at all but a 10-20 fps increase is huge. But do we have to wait for a big patch with all these other additions/fixes, or will they give this a hotfix, like they did with the archer thing after 1.05? I honestly have no opinion of thi
