LATEGAME slowdown?? The game drops to 15fps the second you put a city down. "lategame" doesn't sound like the same problem that twe all have in this thread: https://forums.elementalgame.com/391334 I hope you just worded it wrong, or that fixing one will fix the other, because it's really hard to play like this. I've had to put the game aside and wait. Anyway, tha

I just want to say that I very much appreciate that comment by Frogboy. No excuses. Telling reviewers to call it like they see it, and not review thae game later after they've fixed stuff. Mighty big of him. I'm impressed. I was already hopeful this game would become great, now I'm sure of it.
My God, does anyone appreciate the fact SD created a PC game rather than follow the console route. Have we become that shallow and selfish that what they are trying to do (and will succeed) is not good enough? When have we last saw a game like this? Krool
Wait a minute, time out. You're right. We all should just remember, this game is on the PC!!!! Woohoo! /sarcasm &nb
You're confusing modding in new features with basic stability (greatly improved with 1.06), balanced gameplay (still a long way to go), more intuitive UI (still some way to go), adequate AI (long way to go), promised feature (MP), etc. -- all things that are necessary for a game to be 'release-ready'. I'm not talking about 100% perfection, but rather SD delivering on the promises made, and Elemental being in a

I totally meant to post the link. Sorry! [e digicons]:\[/e] Anyway, my take: Mr. Chick is completely right. The game will be great. It is not now. Attacking people who like Starcraft will not change that. I can say Starcraft is very good at what it does, without having read a single review (not my type of game) just from its sheer success among pc gamers. This game lacks focus and polish. Plenty of small developers are able to get their g

I put "review" in quotations because it's not, really. Mr. Chick explains as much himself. What it is, though, is a fascinating look at the game from a game reviewer who apparently has a working history with Mr. Wardell. I think it's a good read. I wonder if Frogboy has seen it, and if he'd weigh in.

I'm trying not to get mad at the guy who suggested maybe we were pirates. If you go on Fidgit, you'll see that Tom Chick is having the same problem. I highly doubt one of the most well-respected gaming journalists pirated the game. He has switched to using the cloth map (which he oddly seems to prefer.) He's run a bunch of daily reports on the game. The first one caused a bit of a stir here on the forum. He'll apparently have a review up tomorrow. Luckily, it se

I'll ask this. Have you guys reproduced this over there at SD? From what I've read here, the game doesn't use the GPU at all unless you set affinity, and even then, it's only using a portion. So it seems to me, who admittedly has little specific understanding of such things, that for some reason the CPU is doing all of the graphics calculations, or most of them w/ affinity set. How does that happen for some of us, but not all? What's different about us? Is everyone here

It's simple. Build a fairly strong army, but don't use it if you don't want. It's for your defense. Once you have done that for a little while, you will be free to play however you like. Without changing the game into something many of us wouldn't want to play. I don't see why you didn't think of that the first time you were beaten.

Is this supposed to be a fix for something? I turned off auto end-turn immediately. I honestly don't know why it's defaulted to "on". Doesn't effect the issue I'm having. I.E. slow-down around cities.

I agree the prices need to be balanced, but maybe the dagger costs more because it does piercing damage? I read somewhere that different weapons do different types of damage, and different armors counteract it. Too bad it says nothing about it in-game, nor does it display these properties. You know, so we could actually make use of it.

Hey good work. This is the kind of game that needs an up-to-date wiki. I appreciate people like you who go the extra step to help everybody else.
Your Q9550 cpu is one of the ones which will gain from the manual process affinity setting. Set it using taskmanager to core 0 and 1 and you should get an increase of about 30%. Future builds should automatically detect this and handle it for you.
That's all well and good, I'm the one who found it after all, but a 30% increase on 10 fps is still only 13

Yeah, my affinity trick helps, but now that I'm getting bigger cities and stuff, it's not enough. Currently the slow-down is merely very annoying, but I can tell that it'll be damn near unplayable once my towns get a little bigger. I was really hoping the 0-day patch would help, but it didn't. And playing on the cloth map is no solution. I'm no graphics whore or anything, but I didn't pay 50 bucks to look at a drawing. I do have faith in SD. Their all-nighter to get the archer h

I just dl'd the hotfix and started a new game, and was surprised to see what looked like two inns next to each other. Turns out, one wasn't an inn, it was a battleground, but it had the inn's model. Just thought you should know. Thanks for all the hard work! Edit: Oh and I just noticed, after I alt-tabbed back into the game after writing this, all the goody-huts lost their glow. Weird. Double Edit: Ok, I figured out the orig

So... the fix is coming out when? On another post you guys said 20 minutes, that was a few hours ago. I'm not complaining, I understand these things can take time. I just want to know if I'm gonna get to play tonight. (If not I guess I'll boot up X3:TC. I think I'm finally starting to figure it out. That game is awesome, but so confusing.)

I've found setting the affinity to a single core helps with the slowdown I, and some others, experience near cities and such. It doesn't completely eliminate it, but it improves the framerate. It's a bit tedious to have to do that every time I start the game, though. Does anyone know how to set it permanently? Oh, for anyone who has this problem and doesn't know what I mean, while Elemental is running, hit Ctr-Alt-Del, start task manager, the r-click "Elemental" un

Just a small text mistake: In the Empire research tree, the tch called Mapping and the one called The Old Order both have the same discription. It's clear that it belongs only to the Mapping tech. Just thought SD would like to know. Good game, btw. Some rough edges, but I trust you guys'll smooth things out.
